There is usually a dominant team in this format; Hamlet is scoring more than anyone else ever has through five games (at least that I can recall), but the excess points don't mean a great deal at season's end. Injuries, roster changes, something always intervenes to slow down production. Heck, Hamlet and I had the highest-scoring teams last season and neither of us even made the championship game. I scored 186 in the first round of the 2017 playoffs and didn't even break 100 in the championship game (and lost to Varlos who wasn't even playing).

The Fantasy Talking Heads are all saying Chark's efficiency-per-target is unsustainable (he's the only guy in the top 5 with fewer than 40 targets, per PFF Radio this morning). But if the train is rolling, you may as well ride until it stops.

Incidentally, Hamlet is projected to finish with 1986 points. He had 1959 in 2018. Prior top scores include:

2017 Me 1811
2016 Petey 1768
2015 Varlos 1885
2014 Stringer 1857
2013 Justin 1876
2012 Stringer 1859
2011 Stringer 1921
2010 Stringer 1837
2009 Hamlet 1935

So he's probably going to break his own record from last season, which itself broke a record that had stood since the first season of the league. But I'm not sure if he's going to keep scoring even at the rate that Yahoo projects, as the league seems to have caught up with Mahomes, Keenan Allen is at least two weeks overdue for an ACL tear, and Austin Ekeler is going to be relegated to a change-of-pace role now. He's got amazing depth but his bench guys are 15-point-per-week guys rather than 20-point-per-week guys.

151.30 fantasy points and I lose. Maddening. I’m well aware I’ve got a roster with no room for error this season as I loaded up on 2020 draft picks, but I still expect to win with that many fantasy points on a given week.

-4 points from Baker Mayfield loses me the game. I only needed 8.07 points from the QB position to win. Gah!

On a related note, it's pretty clear that the Browns' season is already over. The only question now is whether Mayfield's career is already over too.

It's actually not that clear. They just kicked the shit out of Baltimore in Baltimore last week. The division is up for grabs.

It depends on how bad the implosion is after losing next week vs Seattle and again the following week @ New England to go 2-5. Will they be able to "get right" the following week in Denver? I dunno, and if not, 2-6 is just about "have to win every game from here on out" territory.

Whatever happens to the Browns, I think we can agree that the end of last season was just the "teams not having any film" success that sometimes happens with young quarterbacks (see: Bruce Gradkowski), and that Mayfield's really not very good, right?

I don't agree with that either. I think it's mostly on a poorly designed offensive scheme, which I talk about here and here.

Would you guys be ok with me changing my lineup retroactively? I didn't get a chance to check, and I only ask because gallman was listed out before the game.
I'd appreciate it. Give me a chance to try to stay alive...

I have no objection, but really it's up to Justin.

He was ruled out days ago, btw. It's not like he was a last minute scratch. As in, maybe check in Tuesday or Wednesday to be sure you don't mess up for Thursday games.

I take your point. I admit my initial enthusiasm has been somewhat tempered by my how you say "everything turning into a pile of shit".
I don't suppose you guys have any data on teams starting 1-4 making the playoffs? I wouldn't expect them to be favorable.
So you guys can start sending the fire sale offers. Everybody but Watson is available.

I get it, having been there many years myself.

To your question about has anyone gone 1-4 and made the playoffs, I don't know but I'm interested in learning how to check, or if it's even possible. If it is, I'd kind of like to gather all of the historical matchup data for potential later use in my program. Not sure how I'd use it, but I'd like to have it.

Anyone know how to get previous season weekly matchup & score data?

I've gone 7-0 to start the season and not made the playoffs, so there's that.

Normally I try to work with people in this way - maybe there was a big storm and they lost power for the day, or someone was a game time call and they have to work all day (although in this case their intent has to be declared beforehand) but in this case it's unusual in that he was out for a long time, so normally I'd be inclined to say no.

But... since it was a Thursday game and your potential replacements haven't played yet, and there's no strategic advantage to be gained by doing this, and Justin says he's fine with it, sure, I'll move him to the bench.

I like the everyone-vs-everyone records this week, particularly season totals for potential. if everyone played perfectly: Hamlet has a twenty-one win lead over 2nd place (!!!), and then 4 teams tied for 2nd with another three teams within two. So for those seven teams with comparable potential, coaching is make or break. As I can personally attest, being dead last in season coaching grades.

I suppose the score total tables show the same thing, but it wouldn't have stood out to me as much.

I’m curious, did anyone else consider picking up the Redskins D/ST? I already had a pretty decent matchup with the Cowboys D/ST vs the Jets, but knowing how horrible the Dolphins are made the ‘Skins D/ST a must start this week.

So, let’s see how this works out: I made sure to start Ridley and Sanu to counter the points that Ryan might put up against me.

The Amari Cooper injury ruined me today, I really thought I was on my to a win today. It’s funny, I’m kicking butt in my money league but losing today doesn’t make me feel good about that.

You're losing by 1 point less than Cooper's season average, so you were basically 50/50 to win even if he hadn't been injured.

I honestly can't believe my luck through the first six games. Kyler Murray is just slinging it everywhere. Aaron Jones is putting up big numbers. Alshon Jeffery has come alive. And Austin Hooper has turned into a great TE.

It might all crash and burn next week, but I'm going to ride this streak for as long as I can.

My 1-5 start is bullshit.

If anyone wants my high draft pick next year I'd consider it for a good RB. Supposed to be a great draft.

I saw that Miami was the worst defense in terms of QB scoring, so I decided to sub Josh Allen over Aaron Rodgers at the last minute. Of course Rodgers decides to become old Rodgers and score 50 points on my bench. I'll probably end up squeaking out a win anyway, but it should've been a blowout.

The fantasy gods continue to curse me with victories despite the fact that I clearly don't have the depth to compete during the playoffs. This time, I've beaten Hamlet, and so I will now (hilariously) be in first place overall. I need draft picks, dammit!

I donít have the depth to compete in the playoffs but Iím not out of it yet. And, you may have heard Iíve got some draft picks for 2020.

I assume it’s just a late night Yahoo glitch but it keeps changing my points for the Dallas D/ST. It was 19, then 0, now it’s 8. I’ll check again when I wake up, I’m just really annoyed I lost this matchup.

Patriots D outscoring every offensive player in the league right now. Ridiculous.

Speaking of interesting statistics: Leonard Fournette is the second-leading rusher in the league and is third in yards from scrimmage... and has one total TD. I mean, I don't regret trading for him at all (he's 7th in points among RBs) but I hope I'm due for some major regression to the mean.

So here's the plan: Start the season 1-5 despite not deserving such a crappy record, then go on a run so that I end up finishing like 8-6 but barely missing the playoffs so I have neither playoffs or a good draft pick.

Even though I got fairly unlucky with wins and losses earlier in the year (I think I started 1-5 with the 6th most points?) my team seems like it's coming together and a playoff run might be viable. There aren't that many people more than a game ahead of me.

There are four teams with better records than you excluding the division leaders. There are six teams more than a game ahead of you (though probably a couple less after this weekend). That's not to say you're eliminated, but I would put my money on the wildcard coming from the Midwest. Hamlet's in a bit of a slump, of course, but I doubt that is going to last. Heck, just looking at our division you're still going to be two games behind Petey after this week.

I'm just loving how unpredictable this season has been. Almost no one is sitting where the projections (either Yahoo's or Jules Andre's) said they would be. Even Hamlet seems mortal now and I figured he'd cruise all the way into the playoffs.

I wouldn't count out the Northeast, there's a real chance that everyone in the Midwest knocks each other out (except for the division leader, of course) and Jules and I both make it in.

I forgot to check my lineups before the Thursday night game. Denver is on bye this week and the Chargers are my only other defense. Would anyone mind if I retroactively started the Chargers defense in that D/ST spot, given that it's obvious that's what I'd do? They didn't have a huge game or anything, just 7 points. I normally allow this sort of thing as commish in my leagues when it's an obvious oversight and the intent would've been clear, but I wanted to check first to see if it's cool if I do it for myself.

Iím fine with it. Thursday night games are a pain. The intent would have been clear.

No objection from me, but again, oddly, it's up to Justin.

My opponent (Retro) hasn't set his lineup yet and has three starters on a bye. If that's still the case at 1:00, you can pop in obvious starters for those three. I'm thinking Cousins, Lazard, and Smith. (Three highest projections.)

I'm going to be pissed if I lose by less than seven points, but yeah, it's only fair to let Beef make the switch.

So I may have been wrong about Hamlet's slump - he's about to drop his fourth straight game and go to .500. Though to be fair, he only just got Mahomes and David Johnson back.

"As a team, we're very disappointed at the losses. But we're a team. We're going to fight through this adversity and come out next week prepared and ready. I know a lot of our fans are going to be blaming the injuries or the insane amount of points against, but this is a next man up kind of league and we know we have to play better.

It's on me. Don't be blaming JuJu or David for underperforming, I'm not doing my job. But my guys still have that fight. They're out there every practice, working hard, doing what is best for the team. All we have to do is keep doing that and the wins will come."

Also, fuck fantasy football.

"You guys in the media keep telling us we can't win. We'll take that. We'll use that. You media guys have never played the game. You don't know what it's like to put your blood and sweat on the field like my team does every damn day. But I guess that's the media culture we're in now. So keep telling our guys they can't cut it anymore, and we'll go out there and prove you wrong."

"NO MORE QUESTIONS!"

"We had a really good practice out there today. We're keeping our heads down and working hard on the fundamentals. Mike Thomas and Keenan Allen are giving 110%. Chris Carson and Marlon Mack are grinding away. We're just going to take it one game at a time."

"How many times do I have to say it to you media types? We're taking it one game at a time. We're not looking ahead to inter-divisional games coming up or the playoffs. We're preparing for Overly Sentimental and only Overly Sentimental."

"Look, they're a good football team. They've lost a couple important guys to injuries, but they're better than their record says. There's a lot of young talent on that team, and we've got to be at our best to beat them. DeShaun Watson is an MVP candidate, and Todd Gurley is Todd Gurley."

"There are no easy games in this league."
