How dare you reply to my well researched and entirely serious analysis with 'facts. How do we know they are Punxatawnians?

I may be weird, but my favorite line of the whole movie is (in quotes):
Ned: I dated your sister Mary Pat a coupla times 'till you told me not to anymore.
Phil: Ned? Reyerson?
Ned: Bing!!!
"Phil: <rainman voice>Biiiinnnngg.</rainman voice>"

The way Murray delivers that line is impecable. Biiiinnnngg.

Phil: Ned Ryerson - I have missed you so much. [hugs him] I don't know where you're headed, but... can you call in sick? [keeps hugging him and rubbing his back]
Ned: Uh... I gotta get going.

Over the years he continues to see Phil as a sleazeball, using his bar and a pack of lies to pickup women. However he cannot speak to Phil for fear that he won't say the same thing the same way. Phil is left to his own devices to change.

By the end of the movie, Phil loves Punxstawney. He has truley made a transformation. He's a better person and loves everyone in town. Not only that, but Phil has livened up his bar with some decent jazz piano instead of the interminable dross of Polka that had been playing. Realizing Phil has learned his lesson, he let's him go. Sealing the deal is that he now has his next victim, a man who was using his bar and a pack of lies to pickup a woman, a man who pretended to leave a big tip to impress her only to pull all but a dollar back. That man was Larry the camera-man.

I'm not sure how the bartender did it, though. He probably slipped something into Phil's first drink (Can I get one of these with some booze in it.) then again when he was on stage at the party.
You could be on to something. But I keep thinking of Ned cackling "Watch out for that first step, it's a doozie!" like he was the Wicked Witch of the West.

I watched this movie again the other day. I think I have been reading the Big Bang Theory threads too much.

I was getting irked that Phil kept on waking up at 6 am and it was daylight.

Sunrise isn't until about 7:30 am in the Pittsburgh area on February 2nd.

There is a pic of Murray holding the groundhog in his car while driving.
Whenever I see that I hear "I'm alright" from Caddy Shack.

But, I have not yet seen this film.
I wonder if it is on Hulu.
Maybe I will check tonight.
Hmm... make that this morning.
My hours are flipped right now to support some projects on the other side of the planet.
And, yes, I am goofing off right now.
But, I am not being paid so don't get huffy.

heh heh heh

He may have woken up at 6am, but each day actually began at 5:59am.

There is no way this winter is ever going to end as long as this groundhog keeps seeing his shadow.
I don't see any other way out.
He's got to be stopped.

Well, there ya go. Ha! Now we know why you're "not from Mensa."

No, really, I was just mentioning that because everyone always makes a big deal about the new day starting at 6am. But the clock always shows 5:59. He just wakes up at 6:00.

Just saw it again. The morgue attendant who shows the just-fell-to-his-death Phil's corpse to Rita and Larry, as well as the nurse at the hospital who tells Larry that the old homeless guy has died, are both black.

Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today!

- It's coooold out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach?
- Not hardly. And you know, you can expect hazardous travel later today with that, you -know, that, uh, that blizzard thing.
- That blizzard - thing. That blizzard - thing. Oh, well, here's the report! The National Weather Service is calling for a "big blizzard thing!"
- Yeees, they are. But you know, there's another reason why today is especially exciting.
- Especially cold!
- Especially cold, okay, but the big question on everybody's lips...
- On their chapped lips...
- On their chapped lips, right: do ya think Phil is gonna come out and see his shadow?
- Punxsutawney Phil!
- That's right, woodchuck-chuckers - it's GROUNDHOG DAY!

Hey to Chicago folks, the beautiful neighborhood movie palace Patio Theater at Irving Park and Austin will be showing Groundhog Day this afternoon at 3:00pm, and the admission is only $2.00! I've seen this movie multiple times, but never on the big screen, with a crowd of people who love it too, so even though it's all over TV and we own the DVD, I am so there.

Drats. I'm on a secret mission to do something fun with my son today and I think he's just a little too young to apreciate this movie. Maybe in a couple years.

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl. We ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters.

*That* was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get *that* day over, and over, and over...
