And here I am about midnight last night (Friday night). My buddy's in town from upcountry, and we hit some bars in the Patpong red-light district last night, after which we retired to a nice German restaurant nearby just off of Silom Road. He took this shot. Those are one-liter "boots" of an excellent German brew.

If anyone is in the neighborhood and likes German food (and beer), the place is called G's Restaurant. The owner was an award-winning chef back in Germany. He's always on hand, is very friendly, and makes all the sausages himself. An excellent place to while away an hour or two. The website says he's moving soon from his Patpong location, but the move has already been made, and he's on Silom Soi 4. That is the new place pictured at the bottom of the link.

End of 2014. This is me and my scooter. It clears my head and makes me ridiculously happy.

I could read back several pages but --------- anyone take over the old gallery or move it someplace new?

(I'm still avoiding having a place for images on the web like Photobucket or the like)

I was going to say the same thing, but being a guy I didn't wanna come off as, you know, dungbettley.

Imaging how awkward it would have been if Dung Beetle's picture looked very much like a dung beetle!

Me in a field of pandas. I'm top middle, standing alone facing the camera, wearing shorts and a black T-shirt, hands in my pockets. The pandas are part of the "1600 Pandas" project that is a collaboration between the World Wildlife Fund and a French artist and which has traveled the world these past eight years. It's in Bangkok now. We visited the exhibit at the Central Embassy shopping center last night (Tuesday night). There are indeed 1600 pandas present. Too bad we weren't able to catch the exhibit at Sanam Luang, with Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the emerald Buddha) in the background, as pictured in the photo at the top of the linked story.

And a little closer of me.

And finally, Mr. and Mrs. Siam Sam.

My best friend is in town, come down from the Northeast for the annual renewal of his visa and work permit. Last night (Sunday night) we went to the Great American Rib Company, an excellent place, on our favorites list. We'd not been there too long when guess who walked in -- actor Steven Seagal and his entourage! Really. There's lots of outdooor seating, but we were in the small air-conditioned room, and they sat at the table right next to us. A Thai couple with a baby in the back of the room recognized him and asked to have some photos taken including with the kid. Seagal graciously complied. But we always feel funny about that sort of thing, don't like bothering people when they must get that all the time. So my friend made like he was taking our photo, me and Mrs. Siam Sam, when the point was really to get Seagal into the picture.

And here he is, at the table behind us. I have to say he does not look bad for 64 years old. Both farangs (Westerners) and Thais were present, and it seemed to be some sort of business dinner. I have heard he plans to, or maybe already has, set up a film production company in Thailand.

Ok, here's a fresh one from two hours ago, where I was messing around with a 1/4 upright bass.

I am clearly an electric bassist fish-out-of-water as I am using my pinkie by itself. The scale length was almost the same as an electric bass, so it was fun.

Cool but respectable on a visit to Baltimore.

And this one acting like I'm the one who knows how to fix the mess that was made in my absence...

From last week in Cambodia:

Indiana Sam and the Temple of Doom. (Well, that's really the ruins of Banteay Kdei.)

Angkor Wat.

Atop what I believe was a library at the Bayon in the old Khmer capital of Angkor Thom.

Lest anyone should worry, no, I was not climbing on anything restricted. I was allowed there. Be sure to enlarge to check out the detail on those ruins.

Thanks, man.
It kills my workout partner, who has the core strength of an Olympic gymnast (perfect hanging planches, anyone?), but has very flat abs.

When did Photobucket decide it would be literally impossible to link directly to the image, and made sure your photo was surrounded by a bunch of irrelevant garbage? Whining aside, you're adorable!

Thanks for the kind words. I agree with you about Photobucket. When I created my account years back it was so lightweight and fun to use, now they have monetized their "direct link" feature, taking out the fun and adding suck.

I'd use my photography website instead if I could figure out how to anonymize the URL.
