Though not published in his lifetime, Mark Twain's "Some Thoughts on the Science of Onanism," was a humorous speech on the subject of masturbation. He seemed to like it.

Adolf Hitler esteemed Clark Gable above all other actors and during the war offered a sizable reward to anyone who could capture and return Gable, who had enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was flying combat missions over Germany, unscathed to him.

In July 2005, Spain became the third country to legalize same-sex marriage, after the Netherlands and Belgium. In the same year it also legalized full joint adoption by same-sex couples.

Various faith communities around the world support allowing same-sex couples to marry or conduct same-sex marriage ceremonies; for example: Buddhism in Australia, Church of Sweden, Conservative Judaism, U.S. Episcopalians, Humanistic Judaism, Native American religions with a two-spirit tradition, Druids, the Metropolitan Community Church, Quakers, Reconstructionist Judaism, Reform Judaism, Unitarian Universalists, the United Church of Canada, the United Church of Christ, and Wiccans, as well as various other progressive and modern Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and Jewish groups and various minor religions and other denominations.

Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

off-game No 3 position re same-sex marriage: Canada missed it by that much: the bill passed the Commons before Spain's law was passed, but didn't get Royal Assent until after the Spanish law came into force. "We're number 4!"

On-gameThe United Church of Canada was formed in 1925 by the union of the Methodist Church of Canada, most of the congregations of the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and the Congregational Church, as well as some independent churches in the Prairies.

The second largest country in Europe is The Ukraine, which also happens to be the world's second largest grain exporter.

The flag of Ukraine (not "The Ukraine") has two horizontal stripes, blue over yellow.

Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

Like the flag of Ukraine, the flag of the City of Regina, capital of Saskatchewan, is a blue over gold bi-colour, with the addition of a Crown in the upper fess. The similarity in motif may be because both are located in prairie areas, with grain crops as the main agricultural activity.

The Regina Music Box Company gained great success with their music boxes, having 80% or more of the US market at their peak. But the phonograph killed demand for music boxes, so Regina branched out, selling its first vacuum cleaner in 1903. By the 1930s, vacuums became their main product, and they continued to produce them until purchased by Philips Electronics in 1995.

Frank Miller was the Premier who broke the Ontario Progressive Conservatives' 42 year streak in power in Ontario. He won a plurality of seats on the 1985 election, but was defeated on a motion of non-confidence after the election. The Lieutenant Governor called on the leader of the second-largest party, David Peterson of the Liberals, to form a minority government.

The Black Death was the leading cause of death in 14th century Europe. It is estimated that on average, one-third of Europe's population died of the plague.

Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard the Pirate, had 41 different ships during his short "career" -- he died in 1718 when he was about 38 years old. One of his ships was the Queen Anne's Revenge. Blackbeard's birthdate is not certain, but is believed to be around 1680.

Don Knotts' The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966) inspired a short-lived craze for yelling out "Attaboy, (name)" during speeches and other situations. This came from a running gag used in this film. According to Knotts' autobiography, the off-screen voice yelling, "Attaboy, Luther!" in the film belongs to screenwriter Everett Greenbaum.

Norman Greenbaum, an observant Jew from Malden, MA who attended Hebrew schools, is best known for his guitar-heavy song "Spirit in the Sky", in which he claims he's got a friend in Jesus. Under the name Dr. West's Medicine Show and Junk Band, he recorded the novelty hit "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago".

Trivia Dominoes: Play Off the Last Bit of Trivia

In one episode of Murphy Brown, Murphy takes Miles out shopping for a new suit. The salesman looks at Miles, pulls out a purple suit and proudly announces, "I see you in eggplant!"

Eggplant is outside Miles' comfort zone.

Miles Standish was a passenger on the Mayflower and was hired by the colonists to be a military advisor for Plymouth Colony. In one of the first attacks by Native Americans against the colonists looking for a place to settle, an incident called The First Encounter, Standish led the settlers calmly and encouraged them to not fire their muskets unnecessarily. This First Encounter took place in present-day Eastham, MA.

Approximately 45,000 British colonists fled the 13 colonies for the British colonies of Quebec and Nova Scotia, remaining loyal to the King.

While Lower Louisiana had been settled by French colonists since the late 17th century, the Cajuns trace their roots to the influx of Acadian settlers after the Great Expulsion from their homeland during the French and English hostilities prior to the Seven Years' War . The Acadia region to which modern Cajuns trace their origin consisted largely of what are now Nova Scotia and the other Maritime provinces, plus parts of eastern Quebec and northern Maine. Since their establishment in Louisiana the Cajuns have developed their own dialect, Cajun French, and developed a vibrant culture including folkways, music, and cuisine. The Acadiana region is heavily associated with them.

The Acadians in Nova Scotia have retained some anachronisms in their dialect, such as saying "Je ne suis point" instead of "Je ne suis pas", a construction which was used in Molière's time.

Joe Louis had been down on his luck in his last years and died in poverty in 1981. His funeral was paid for by his most famous rival (and later friend), German boxer Max Schmeling, whom Louis had defeated in 1938 much to Hitler's chagrin.

In Sunset Boulevard Norma Desmond recalls that the last time she saw Cecil B. DeMille she was dancing on a table; he recalls the occasion as a party to celebrate Lindbergh's landing.

Alamo Rent a Car is headquartered in Clayton, MO. It was given the name not because of its location, but because it wanted to be listed first among car renatl companies in the telephone book.
