Musicians, Movie and Tv Celebrities with Coronavirus. Discussion

Well, the first Coronavirus entry is Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson. Hanks was in Australia preparing to play Colonial Tom Parker in an Elvis film.

Tom & Rita are 63 and in good health. Hopefully they'll recover and be ok.

Celebrities meet a lot of people. It's a key part of their careers. But it may mean that they've been exposed to sick people.

This thread is intended to discuss celebrity cases of Coronavirus as it's reported.

Tom Hanks

Not exactly a famous name, but Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert has tested positive for the coronavirus. This is big, as the NBA has suspended the rest of their regular season.

Now is the optimal time to kill-off expendable show characters. "Ma caught the Corona and died, praise the lord!"

I'm a little worried for Stephen King. He has a home near Sarasota where some of our state's first outbreaks were, and he's not the healthiest dude to begin with. He also seems like the kind of celebrity who would mingle with the public a bit.

It's probably a great threat in contract negotiations. "If you don't renew we'll just off your character using the corona virus".

Production on Riverdale has been shutdown. Someone came into contact with a Coronavirus patient. No word yet if it was crew or an actor that was exposed to the virus.

The entire CBS Broadcast Center in New York has been shut down for cleaning. And Stephen Colbert announced last night the The Late Show won't have a live audience for an undetermined time.

But he lives on an exclusive small barrier island--pretty easy to isolate himself.

Tom Hanks and Rita shared an update. They're still upbeat and thankfully don't appear too sick. They aren't on respirators.
I've read they had the virus for several days before it was diagnosed. Rita had performed a couple concerts in Australia and been on a morning talk show. Tom had taken selfies with fans. They came into contact with quite a few people.

Quote:
"Hello folks. Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else," he said.

"There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?"

Sophie Trudeau, the wife of Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Trudeau and his family are going into 14 day isolation.

Sophie Trudeau is sort of a celebrity.

The Canadian prime minister's wife gets a lot of press.

You're correct, she's not an actress or musician. I really shouldn't have mentioned her, but she's probably the highest profile Coronavirus case right now.

Okay, how about "public figures"? IOW, people you've heard of who aren't part of your immediate circle of family, friends, coworkers. Does that help??

Olga Kurylenko revealed Sunday on Instagram that she has tested positive for coronavirus.

She is best known for her starring performances in Bond flick Quantum of Solace. She's still performing and has movies due for release.

Her symptoms are mild. She's self isolating at home.

Some encouraging news... Tom Hanks and Rita have left the hospital and isolating at home.

Apparently the virus hits some people harder than others. It's not necessarily a near death experience. But, no one knows how sick they'll get.

Archduke Karl von Habsburg of Austria is the first royal to get it. Grandson of the last emperor.

First prize is a trip in an open motorcar thru Sarajevo.

Austria, hey? Maybe he'll end up quarantined with Tom and Rita.

True for any disease, but even more true for this one than most. Something like half of those infected experience no symptoms at all. But a few die. You can't get a much wider range of variability than that.

Shut-in celebrities sing "imagine no possessions" on Twitter. Twitterverse goes bananas over the perceived tone-deafness.
Quote:
A group of celebrities, including Gal Gadot, Will Ferrell, Mark Ruffalo, James Marsden, Lynda Carter, Jamie Dornan, and Amy Adams, posted a video of each of them, in their isolation, signing lines from John Lennon's "Imagine." The attempted message was that we're all in this together, we will get through this, but the Twitter response was immediate and brutal.

It was the line "imagine no possessions" that triggered the most vitriol. People seeing this tweet who are currently out of work and understandably nervous about it barked that they don't have to imagine it. Others shot back with sentiments like: We don't need you singing to us. How about you spending a million or two to buy ventilators and masks and donate them them to hospitals? One person posted the pay that each actor gets per film.
"Imagine no pinhead leaders, real or aspiring." They left out that line.

Can I mention an NPR radio personality?

Just last Sunday I listened to that day's episode of This American Life; the theme was appropriately low-grade dread. At the end of the show, host Ira Glass announced that he had the virus.

One of my favorite actresses Debi Mazar has it, along with her family.

Took quite a while to get a confirmation test due to a lot of run around. (The family having it is a presumption since they are around her and sick. Not tested yet, if ever.) Sounds very sick.

Some areas are telling doctors not to do tests due to shortages unless it will alter the treatment methods used. The number of undiagnosed people around simply due to unavailability of testing must be shocking.
