The Great Summer 2020 Doper Postcard Exchange!

Northern Piper, melodyharmonius and jayrey have run them in the past, and they're always fun, but it's been awhile.

Here's how it works (as adapted from NP's previous thread). Our rules, by the numbers, and written with past PE problems in mind:

1. If you want to get three (3), count 'em, THREE! postcards from witty and intelligent Dopers from around the world, just sign up here, and send me a PM with your real-life name and postal address. (You know, post - you put a stamp on it, put it in a mailbox, and a postal carrier will pick it up and deliver it - I'm sure if you've forgotten how to do it, it'll come back to you before you know it). Cut-off for signing up is noon EST on Fri. May 29. I'll take all the names and addresses received by PM by that date, and will then send out PMs to each of you with the names and addresses of the three Dopers to whom you'll send postcards.

2. Please, don't sign up unless you intend to do your very best to participate. I'll try to ensure that everyone gets at least one postcard from someone in another country. (Offer depends on availability of world-wide Dopers signing up. No warranty of world-wide Dopers is offered, express or implied. Terms may vary depending on local laws. Offer void where prohibited. You need not be sane to win. Do not adjust your dial, write if you get work, hang by your thumbs, &c &c &c).

3. You then purchase three (3!) postcards which you want to share with other Dopers. It's up to you what themes to select. Local color is always good, especially if you're sending it to an overseas Doper. Don't wait until the last minute to get your postcards (museums, historic site gift shops and local visitors bureaus are good sources) or to buy appropriate postage (remembering that domestic and international postage will likely differ). Bear in mind that some Dopers have small children, so nothing X-rated on your postcards, please.

4. Address your postcards. Write a short, clearly-written message to the Doper, who is going to be just thrilled to hear from you. Be sure to use your SDMB username, so they know who sent it to them. Get the right kind of stamps and put them on the postcards. Put the postcards in your local mail slot, and off they go!

5. Deadline for posting your postcards is two weeks later, by Fri. June 12. Report here as soon as you've posted them (not when you intend to, but after you've actually dropped them in the mail, please).

6. There is no Rule 6.

7. Gird your loins and wait with saintly patience (this is particularly hard for some Dopers, I remember well from previous threads). Soon enough, postcardy goodness will arrive in your mailbox.

8. Report back here every time you get a Doper postcard. Huzzah!

And we're off....

Thanks for the PM, and I am excited to participate! I may have to send hand-made postcards (thus violating Rule 3), but I'll see what I can dig up in the back of my drawers (the desk kind! Get your minds out of the gutter!)

Thank you, Elendil's Heir, for organizing!

PM sent. I even have stamps!

I also have historical postcards, but I'll see if I can get something a bit more current. Used to have postcards of our little town, but I don't they sell them anymore.

Oops, forgot to send the PM. I forgot that my address isn't stored in some postcard exchange database and I have to send it again. Will do it in a minute.

I'm in again! PM sent. Hopefully I can come up with some better postcards than what I have on hand, (the last remaining out of a local postcard book from several exchanges ago).

Just a note: We have another exchange going on as well. Join that one - the more the merrier and we always send/get all sorts of goofy stuff in addition to the shot glasses.

I've received homemade cards and they've been great. I've sent homemade cards as well. I'd think cards from overseas would be fine, esp in these uncertain times :-) !

Crud, I thought yesterday was May 29. But no, I have to wait another week to get my postcard assignments. Rule 7 is sooooo onerous.

The deadline has now passed, and I just sent out PMs to everyone with the names and addresses of those to whom you should send your postcards in the next two weeks, that is, by Fri. June 12. (See Rules 4 and 5 above, especially). All addresses are in the U.S. unless otherwise noted, and everyone has at least one non-U.S. postcard recipient in his or her group. There's no need for anyone to send extra cards, as the numbers worked out perfectly, but if anyone wishes to do so, please say so in this thread, and others are welcome to then swap home addresses with you via PM.

Thanks, everyone, and have fun!

I have to say sorry in advance to my recipients. All three cards will go from Germany to the USA, which will take about a week from my experience anyway, and I won't be able to send them before June 6th or so because I ordered cards that won't arrive earlier. But I promise to post them before the deadline.

I will be buying cards either next week, or the week that ends June 12th. They will get sent out before the deadline.

However, based on recent experience, it seems that mail between Switzerland and the U.S. is taking longer than usual. So I will be patient. And apologies in advance for those who will have to wait a bit longer.

Mine are in the mail. Two of the addresses I got are US, one is UK, so I expect the USians will get theirs in 2-3 days; UKian will probably get theirs end of this week or early next.
