Doctor Whouse?

Inspired by a weird dream I had: What if the Doctor went around through time and space saving the day, but being a total dick while doing it?

He doesn't? Peter Capaldi and Christopher Eccleston were both pretty acerbic and impatient of human foibles--not quite to House levels but definitely not cozy smoochy. And yes, those two ARE my favorite Doctors and I'm pretty sure I know what that says about me.

It’d still be much better than the last season.

Definitely the point (at least being a manipulative bastard) of the Sylvester McCoy character. Ace even calls him out on it.

I confess my own ignorance of the pre-reboot Doctors because I didn't follow the show back then and my own attention span has defeated my efforts to become better educated. The First Doctor was pretty cranky too though, yeah?

I'm not convinced a timey-wimey drug addiction would be a good thing.

I thought this was a thread about Hugh Laurie becoming Doctor Who. That would be amazing.

You had a dream about Colin Baker?

Pertwee was — uh, straightforward? — as the Third Doctor: he’s the smartest guy in the room, and he wants everyone to know it, and he’s got an aristocratic bearing, and he roughs people up in hand-to-hand combat as Plan A; you get the idea.

You probably still couldn't get him to work in the clinic.

Tom Baker comes into your house, sits in your best chair with his feet up on the antiques, and cheerfully tells you off.

Colin Baker's 6th Doctor was so annoying they had to get Sylvester McCoy to sub in for him during the regeneration scene!

He'd use the TARDIS lavatory before dematerialising.

(I'm, um, thinking of a railway analogy here.)

Yeah, that was my first thought - about Capaldi, anyway. He was one of my favorite Doctors too, because he was like that (my favorite is Ten, but Twelve is a close second).

Rubbish!

Piffle!

Absurd!

Ridiculous!

Common words for 4, 6, 10, & 11. THE Doctor is every bit as abrasive and dismissive as Dr. House.

I like Capaldi a lot, but I think he often crossed the line from "acerbic" to "grumpy areshole".

See, you’ve just now reminded me that John Hurt’s stint as The War Doctor got him dubbed ‘Captain Grumpy’ by his later incarnation: he’s willing to use lethal force, so his gravelly lines run the gamut from “you leave me no choice” to “whatever the cost” to “I’ll have to live with that” to “I'm going to need your gun.”

Precisely why I love him so--it seems to me that after banging around through time and space dealing with endless clueless gormless humans that anyone would get pretty tired of their shit and start kicking asses rather than wiping noses. The pivot to nicey nicey Jodie Whittaker really doesn't do it for me--I was completely onboard with doing a gender switch on the Doctor but wasn't prepared for her to be such an...ingenue.

To be fair, the guy was fired, and then they had the balls to ask him to come in to film a short sequence. I would told them to f- off too.
