Super Bowl: Who are you rooting for?

Straight-up poll, nothing more.

Rooting hard for the Rams here. Would be befitting for them to send Brady into retirement after he got his first SB championship 17 years ago against the Rams.

I like Sean McVay and the Patriots players, but I want the Patriots to win. The Rams, like the Charges and the Raiders, stiffed mid-size, mid-market American audiences and got sweetheart deals to build new mega-stadiums while stadiums that taxpayers already paid for left residents in San Diego, Oakland, and St Louis holding the bag. I know everyone hates Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the Patriots, but if you really care about the game of football and the future of the NFL, believe me, you will cheer against the Rams.

There's no option for "the asteroid"...

As a resident of Northern California, I cannot root for the Rams. And as a thinking, feeling human, I cannot root for the Patriots.

And I'm not a big fan of Maroon 5, either.

Normally I wouldn't care but I was offered a $100 free bet by one of the bookmakers that I use. So go Patriots.

I don't follow Gridiron, but voted for the Patriots. It will shut up my American friends wheneer they talk about "parity" in US sports, I mean, whats this, (checks wiki) 9 time in 18 years that they are in the SuperBowl. Combined with Golden State Warriors dynasty and wherever the fuck Lebron is playing always getting to the NBA Final, I don't want anyone to talk shit about soccer ever again.

On the other hand the Patriots are apparently Trumps team and play most white players, is it true?

I'm rooting for a well-played, interesting, see-saw of a game that comes down to a defensive stop on the final drive. I'm also rooting for the officials to not fuck up the game.

I despise Stan Kroenke with most of my heart, but Trumpista Robert Kraft isn't any better. Of the Rams fans I know, most quit liking them when they moved and LA fans dont impress me. But Pats fans can be annoying as hell. So if both teams lose, that'd be great. But mostly I'll just be rooting for a fun, interesting game.

I can certainly see the argument that the Patriots win enough and that it'd be more interesting for someone else to win. I'm not strongly emotionally invested, either way, in either team, and I don't hold it against anyone else how they root. But, first, I like New England more than I like southern California, and second, my sister's family (where I'll be watching the game) are Patriots fans, so I'll be rooting for them.

The Patriots are an anomaly. Theyíre the only team in the NFL who has managed to do that. There are 31 other teams in the league. There is most certainly parity in that league. Itís not perfect but itís probably as close as professional sports get.

The NBA doesnít have parity. I donít think they even really try to.

No team in the NFL plays mostly white players. There are definitely ties between the Patriots and Trump, their owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick have been friends of his for years. Their quarterback Tom Brady is apparently a Trump supporter because he had a ďMake America Great AgainĒ hat in his locker (Kraft gave it to him) and he has praised Trumpís accomplishments in interviews. I donít think itís a personal friendship like it is with Kraft and Belichick, more a mutual public respect (Trump has also praised Brady in tweets).

On the other hand, those friendships have cooled off since Trump took a public stance against NFL protests, and itís unsure how close the leadership of New England is toward the president. If they won the Super Bowl, they may not be invited to the White House or may not accept if invited. Then again it seems like the National Anthem controversy has died off so maybe itís no longer an issue.

He also made it pretty clear, from the time he took over the Rams, that he had no real desire to keep them in St. Louis, and then followed through on it.

I'm not a huge fan of the Rams, but, daaaaang, I'm tired of seeing the Patriots. I'll just put it this way: if the Vikings were the NFC champs, I would be cheering for them tomorrow, and as a lifelong Packer fan, I really don't like the Vikings.

The needs to be at least one more option. Zero-zero tie followed by a meteor strike sounds ideal to me.

I'm rooting for all the people who go bicycling on the emptied streets, the people who meet to work on their knitting projects together, and all the people who say, "Superbowl? That's today? That's a football game, right? I've heard of it ... somewhere."

This is how the game will end:

__ 13:41 (2nd OT) 2nd & 7 on their own 48, Brady throws a pick-6 to Hill – but he is ruled down on the 2, no score
__ 13:28 1st & Goal on the 2, Goff fakes to Gurley and tries a QB sneak, but is hit hard at the 1 and fumbles the ball away
__ 12:17 3rd & 9 on their own 2, after two pathetic rushing attempts, Brady drops back and throws to Dorsett at the 16, who, after breaking 5 tackles, aided by at least 3 questionable blocks, go the length of the field; Pats fans celebrate wildly; four minutes later, the ref announces that, after lengthy review, officials have determined that Brady stepped out of the endzone while throwing the pass, the Rams earn a safety, game over.

Of course, there is much controversy. Pats fans play the tape over and over again, claiming that his foot was in and the ball was leaving his fingertips as his heel came down on the white. Rams take home the trophy.

MrKnowItAll, I think we're meant to restrict ourselves to the 31 teams who compete for the Superbowl. Bringing in other teams like the Browns, the Indians, or Manchester United is irrelevant.

Though I suppose that there's at least an outside chance that the Tribe or Man U could someday win it.

In a month, the start of the American Footie season begins. So, at least there is that. Now they have the right number of teams to make their schedules balance out.

Vikings fan here trapped around nothing but Yinzers. I have a certain respect for the Pats; their fans are packing muskets and explosives and ya gotta love that. But they have been there done that lately and the Rams this season were just too good a feeling so ------- my hopes are for the Rams.

I donít know about Belichik but this gives some insight as to why a Democrat like Kraft is close to Trump.

Donít forget Trump used to be a registered Democrat, from 2000-2009. Heís reportedly changed his party affiliation five times over the years. Iím sure heís rubbed elbows with people of various political ideologies.

I honestly didn't know who was playing until this post, but not the Patriots. Not because of any animosity, but because I already saw them win twice. It's no fun rooting for the ones who always win.

The Brady-Belichick Patriots must fly in the face of some statistic. All eight of their Super Bowls have been decided by one score or less. Six have been decided by four points or less.

Never assume. I mean, if Tampa Bay can win a Superbowl, anyone can.

Maybe someday Cleveland will be decimated by a hurricane, and the NFL will hand them one just because it makes a good story.

Which is a testament to the Belichick, Kraft, and Brady and their organizational system. The Patriots are coached and trained to make every play count and to win tight games.

I grew up in the Fox River valley getting Green Bay stations, so I grew up with Packer Fans. I didn't even watch football until relatively recently. I'm still not a huge fan, but I really only watch Packer games.
I do live in Minnesota, so if the Vikings were in it I might actually root for them (not sure I would watch).

So with a choice of "Wins way too much" vs "moving McMoverface"* I guess a slight preference for the rams (an asteroid would likely take out some innocent bystanders), but my real answer is "hey, Incredibles 2 is on Netflix"

Brian
*one thing about the Packers, they will never move.

Eh... a bunch of people I don’t know — some of them violent assholes — giving each other brain damage playing a game that can’t be refereed fairly? How could it matter...?

“If the Rams win, Trumperdinck suffers? That is a noble cause.”

(Actually, I became a Rams fan while they were in St. Louis, and didn’t really care about the move to LA. I greatly prefer watching games on television to watching live.)
