Maybe he'll invite their widows to the White House and serve them one scoop of ice cream and watch him eat two.

Didn't catch the name but this morning I heard a politician from Illinois complaining that Trump isn't fulfilling his campaign promises. What stuck in my mind is that her hard-working Midwesterners are quite surprised their guy would in good conscience treat them like flyover country by working against their interests.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure that was an Illinois politician. Might've been Indiana.

I was going to see if I could come up with positive spin on this, and the best I can do is that he may not have known of the collision yet (why not?) and that there were missing hadn't been announced yet (so maybe he knew but was allowing the announcement to be made through proper channels (I'm killing myself here ).).

But even that means that at best he is incapable of displaying on the fly empathy, which isn't surprising.

Later, he might tweet a more gracious message after Melania composes it for him.

Donald Trump suggests Jews might secretly be committing anti-Semitic hate crimes on themselves so he looks bad 'The comments echoed similar ones by David Duke, the head of the Ku Klux Klan, just hours before.'

Quote:
After days in which he refused to comment on a spate of anti-Semitic attacks, Mr Trump broke his silence to repeat an neo-Nazi conspiracy theory that has claimed that the attacks are "false flags". Supporters of that belief – who include leader of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke – believe that such attacks are being perpetrated by Jewish people in order to undermine the White House....

[Pennsylvania's Attorney General, Josh Shapiro] Mr Trump [called] the threats "reprehensible", but then added that, "sometimes it's the reverse, to make people or to make others look bad." Mr Shapiro said that he had repeated the word "reverse" a number of times, stressing that the attacks might be perpetuated by Jewish people.

Secret Service depletes funds to pay agents because of Trump's frequent travel, large family

Quote:
Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex'' Alles... said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year....

"The president has a large family, and our responsibility is required in law,'' Alles said. "I can't change that. I have no flexibility.'' ....

But even if such a proposal [to raise the combined salary and overtime cap for agents] was approved, about 130 veteran agents would not be fully compensated for hundreds of hours already amassed, according to the agency.

My god, a pastor was just on 1A (NPR) talking about how great Trump's personal relationship is with God and how when he said he didn't ever ask God for forgiveness it's because he didn't JUST ask God for forgiveness but made things right.

He's on the evangelical council.

It's how Loser Donald 'wins'. He has a well-documented history of not paying people who work for him. (Granted, Congress holds the purse strings; but the majority are members of Loser Donnie's party.)

I must reiterate that the affection of some of the religious leaders for Trump has entirely baffled me. I get that some think he will move the ball down the field on some of their issues. But others talk like he is a model of their version of a good Christian. WTF?

Because they think he'll nominate judges who can be counted upon to stop the baby-killing and get the gays out of their faces, apparently. That's what it all seems to amount to.

For some, Trump IS their model of a good Christian;

-Rips off others to enrich himself
-Lives in ostentatious wealth
-Pays lip service to Christianity and pretends to believe all that crap

This is what they themselves do, so they know that he is one of them.

You would have no way of knowing this, but between my computer screen and my crappy eyesight, bold doesn't show up well on my screen, which is why I've started underlining when I want to emphasize.

Anyone read the excellent New Yorker article on Trump's superhero, Carl Icahn? It's a jaw-dropping read. I don't have a clue how anyone thinks Trump is in office to help the common man.

So naturally Trump decides to make a speech to the nation at....9pm, Monday, 21 August.

Not a coincidence, I would suspect; Trump really is that petty and vindictive.

I hear that Breitbart is seriously trying to spin the "that's too bad" comment as being McMaster's fault. Somehow, McMaster acquired control of Trump's mouth and made him say that. Because merely 'failing to brief' Trump can't be the answer--an unbriefed Trump could still have said something other than "that's too bad." (Maybe "terrible news, and I'll have more to say shortly" or such.)

Searching, I do find Breitbart as the second hit on this Google Search page---I don't want to post a link to Breitbart itself:

You need to realize that Christian Conservatives are not united by their love of Jesus Christ. They are united by tribalism, and by their perceived threat from liberals and Muslims. Political correctness, gay rights, abortion, immigration, etc - they see all those as attacks on Christianity. To them, "religious freedom" means the right to assert their bigotry (e.g. refusing to participate in gay weddings, or not even baking a cake for them.). Trump is the perfect representative of this group.

From The New Yorker's Andy Borowitz. Encouraging news.

Trump’s Horrific Spelling Reassures Nation That He Cannot Correctly Enter Nuclear Codes
Quote:
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Donald J. Trump’s demonstrable inability to spell even the simplest words has reassured many that he lacks the aptitude to correctly enter the nuclear launch codes entrusted to the President of the United States.

While millions of Americans have lost sleep over the thought of Trump being anywhere near the nuclear codes, his failure to spell such words as “heal” and “tap” suggests that mastering a more complicated sequence of letters or numbers would be well above his grade level.....

Sending more troops to Afghanistan to "kill terrorists" but somehow that's going to create "everlasting peace", because he has no desire for nation building.

People are also commenting on his sniffing through the whole speech.
