Either way, I'm still holding off, I just don't feel the need for it at the moment.
Ya know what, now that I think about it, it was $249K when it became available to me. I just remember it was 'more money then I've ever had at once', but then about two weeks later I blew past $249 and since for the last few days I've been in the 300-350 range I was thinking it was $349K. My mistake.

Sure, do you want my checking account number right away also? I'm sure you'll need my Origin username and password.

You have to understand. Her son is a Nigerian Prince with unlimited funds to assist you. All you have to do is make a small investment via Western Union and you will have your 5,000 donuts.

If anyone is interested, I have over 30 characters currently doing actions that keep them out in the open, not disappeared indoors. Everyone but Apu and pimply teenager, who are on quests. Anyway, I always wanted to see everyone active and I have it for the next several hours. Enjoy!

I've finally been told to build Burns Manor, but it's going to be a few days before I can get the cash lined up. I spend a lot on my Squidport and I'm not sure that was the best decision. Oh well.

I was very concerned that the 4th of July stuff was over first thing on Monday morning, as I hadn't completed the Rocket's Red Glare quest. I finished it today and still got the Liberty Bell. This makes me happy.

I am building Zesty's now and then I think I am all caught up on quests until they launch a level 31. I am kind of glad to have the time to devote to Squidport and build up some cash reserves.

I think you had to have started the quests and got Rex before the deadline.

Yeah, I still got he liberty bell as well. I put it by the church and it kind of looks like a church bell.

Oh, and it's 9:40 AM here and I am logged into Origin and on the game now.

By the way, apparently yesterday's update did nothing. I wonder if it prepped an update for later this week.

Oh, and the rumor is that level 31 is coming very soon. Free up all your people in the next day or so and save up cash. Just speculation, but heads up.

Per TSTOTips.com, there was a server error and things are back up.

I just converted my row of cheap brown homes into summer cottages along the waterfront. I think it looks pretty cool (and I totally admit to ripping it off from the above mentioned site) but I also have to remember that I moved them for monies collecting purposes. I now have an undecorated spot where the houses used to be and I'm thinking of converting that into a park and moving my smaller, existing park over to it.

Looks like Level 31 is now released. You will need Mayor Quimby free to start the tasks.

Two things, first, I learned from TSTOtips that level 31 won't kick off if you haven't built Herman's.
Second, Herman's has dropped down to $166,000.

Also, since we just flipped to another page, I'll mention again that if anyone is still looking for more friends to add, a co-worker of mine that I got hooked on the game could use more friends. He's KAZES1LOVE

Well, yeah. You have to have built the main building from the previous level before the next level kicks off. Except for a few weird progression glitches, I think that's how it always works.

Added your friend.

I had enough for both new buildings, but am down to $37000 again. Yikes, that was nearly $600000 for two buildings.

It's too bad making your place look nice can only swing your multiplier a few points one way or the other. During the time while I was waiting for Level 31 to come out I thought about putting in some bigger parks or outdoor theaters* (composed of fences/bushes/parking spaces/meters(vanity points)), but the most that would have done is brought me from 3.5 or 4 stars up to 5. Basically, it would have made my town look nice, but still a waste of money at a time when I need to save. I'm glad I've been scrimping and got myself up to about 700K. I just bought Herman's, so I'm down a few hundred thousand, but at least I'll have another character (and I'm glad I waited so long to get it).

*ETA, I've seen drive in theaters, but when I went to go find a picture, I found that amphitheater looking thing too. I'm not even entirely sure how they did that.

Dammit, now I want to build an amphitheater. That is a very clever use of perspective.

Rumors are flying of a major change coming in August. If you want to read about it, I'll spoiler the link.

The less-spoilery details are that a second area is being added to the game, one that requires you to leave Springfield and load a new area .

SPOILER:

That seems interesting - that will be cool to send characters over to a new area.

I started rebuilding some of my Springfield. I don't want to shake everything up completely, but I've been reading about making 3D effects over at http://tstotips.com and wanted to try it. I "elevated" my town hall after moving it to a more central location. I think it looks OK, but I'm not 100% on it. When characters walk through hedges or walls to get to the building, it kind of ruins it for me.

In the new Level 31 campaign, one of the characters does make a remark about being able to track the townspeople during a bit of dialog. I thought that was fairly amusing -- I'm sure I'm not the only player who would like a way to scroll through the characters to help see what they're doing and assign them a task if needed.

I am now being asked to build everything at once!
  • Hospital
  • El Chemistri
  • Buddhist Temple
  • Post Office
  • Squidport - Turban Outfitters

I started with the Temple because it will give me more characters to put to work. What do you advanced players recommend for my next build? I'm considering scrapping the Squidport quest line altogether because it will cost me a TON to buy the water territory and the boardwalks.

Well, as you said the Temple gives you Lenny and Carl. After that, I would just go from cheapest to most expensive. Building El Chemistri gets Comic Book Guy off your sidebar but the Hospital gives Dr Hibbert a 1 hour job.

I would probably go for Turban Outfitters next so you can keep moving forward on Squidport quests. The whole Squidport thing is very slow moving since those tiles take a long time to build. While you're at it, just keep building those, regardless of the cost, as soon as one is finished, build the next. I'm at the point where they're taking 2 days to build (and you can only build one at a time. Also, you have to place them in the water for them to count towards the quest.

When I was in your position, I was alternating between Squidport stuff and the rest of the things they were asking me to build (but always building tiles).

ETA, On the one hand, Squidport is supposed to be permanent so you probably don't need to be in any rush to finish it, but I'd hate to find out that you need to be at a certain level there to start something else either on the mainland or, for example, in Krustyland or some other thing that shows up at some point. So you probably don't want to completely ignore it and end up falling a month behind.

Level 32 came out today, with Rod and Todd. You can get Sir-Putts-A-lot if you missed it, like me.

Also, the mental facility and some other premium stuff.

I built the Putt Putt thing and found that now that I have Rod and Todd, Lisa no longer has an 8 task (which was to babysit Rod and Todd).

thnx for adding/accepting everybody! very nice to see some other Springfields! I see a lot of premium stuff out there, is everybody here spending lots of money on the game? Or did I just miss opportunities to get it because I haven't been playing for that long?

Some people have played a long time. Some spend money. Some use hacks/cheats.

She does have a babysit task, but it now requires one of the kids(Rod, I think). Isn't that right? I think I got a task for her to do just that.

I was just told to have her babysit Rod and Todd. However, I noticed that when I put her on the (8 hour) task A)both kids were gone and B)it's only paying me for one character. Generally tasks that take multiple characters (interrogating a suspect/make Smithers exercise for Burns/what ever that new guy does to Ned where he shakes him etc) you get paid for all the people involved.
I wonder if that task is just going to be a one off thing.
It's not that big of a deal, it's just that at 10pm I put all my characters on an 8 hour task and try to be done with the game until morning. If I have characters that don't have 8 hour tasks available to them I end up putting them on 1 or two hour tasks and then picking up the tablet again later and putting them on 6 hour tasks around midnight.
I mean, I could put them on a longer task earlier in the night, but why lose the money.

not really sure if I'm going to spend money on it. It's a fun game, but there are so many premium items I'm afraid if I start spending real money it will be a slippery slope I don't think I even know how paying for stuff works on tablets, lol. Any hacks/cheats I should really know about? Or is that a big no no here

I haven't put any real money into it. I have only been playing since February. The only premium items I have are ones I have received through the Mystery Box and ones you could earn through special events like Whacking Day. I did manage to save up 60 donuts and I finally spent them on Bumblebee Man. Donuts well spent. There are a lot of cool things that you can buy. I almost succumbed to Lincoln, but I did not cave. Part of me is proud of my little town I built without money, but part of me wants all the shiny toys too. Also, no hacks. I was tempted, but didn't end up doing it.

pretty much sums up how I feel too. I have 29 donuts now, so I'll keep saving them and just keep playing. Hopefully there will be more special events in the future!

Those of you who pay more attention to the economics of the game. I have about 100 donuts (collected from the beginning). What one (or maybe two) things should I buy to give me the most return? I'm guessing something with a character to do tasks, but which one?
