Crap - I did not perform a thread search correctly and made a season debut post.

Mods feel free to delete my other post and accept my apologies.

And on that note:

YES! Can't wait to see this!

Saw the first ep and liked it, although there weren't as many belly laughs as early Archer seasons. Good setup, though, and the dynamics of the ex-ISIS gang are just as bitchy and predictable as ever, even in spaaaaace. Nice touch to have Babou the Ocelot on the starship Seamus crew patch. And great to have Barry back as a mob-boss robot!

I liked spotting the many sf homages:

Alien/Aliens - the starship bridge's design and hypersleep capsules; Krieger as an Ash/Bishop android
Battlestar Galactica - the laser cannon
Star Wars - defending against attacking fighters
Firefly/Serenity - Ray as an onboard courtesan
Fantastic Four - Pam as the Thing

I vaguely recall the initial little floaty-hologram Malory computer program as being from an sf show, movie (Tron?) or videogame, but can't place it (or her).

Any others?

"Mother" was also the name of the AI from Alien that controlled the ship while in the crew was in hypersleep and what Archer calls Mallory.

I've now seen all of them so far this season. The one with Pam's egg-laying alien "sandwich" reminded me of ST:TOS "The Other Side of Paradise," with the spores which released all inhibitions, or the virus from "The Naked Time." And the giant space octopus that swallowed the Seamus of course was a lot like the giant space worm of The Empire Strikes Back (bonus points for the Mynocks-chewing-power-cables reference). I'm enjoying this season, although I have to say Archer: 1999 just isn't as deliriously funny as the first few seasons.

Favorite lines:

"And they called me mad!"
"Who did?"
"Huh? I guess I just assumed."

"I'm writing what I've always dreamed of - a rock musical about the Teapot Dome Scandal!"

"I don't wanna live in a world where Cyril's cool."

"What's the worst that could happen dot dot dot?"

"We just might die of chafing."

"Woohoo! Suicide cult, here I come!"

I think this season is better than last season, but still not peak Archer. One thing that helps is that they dropped the whole Archer in a coma plot; it's just Archer in spaaaaace! if it's funny, they could do this with any genre, Archer in the Old West, Archer in a fantasy setting, but it has to be funny.

There was also a floaty thing in Automan that would materialize Automan and his Lamborghini and other stuff, but a moment's thought shows that the visual style there was simply tantamount to Tron.

Is Archer not in a coma anymore? I thought these last seasons were a kind of Incident at Ox-Bow Bridge, although I would like a happy ending for Archer, Lana, and their baby.

They didnít start the season with him in the hospital and they donít have any scenes with the other characters bedside. I like this approach better, just all in on the seasonís premise.

Heh. A polite British android WMD is an interesting concept.

The premise of a sentient explosive seems cribbed from 1974's Dark Star, though I never saw it myself. Carol/Cheryl's multilayered psychopathy remains good for a laugh.

I've seen it, and yes, kind of, although the explosive there is a big nonhumanoid bomb that becomes fascinated by phenomenology. A funny low-budget sf movie, though, and worth a look.

Well last week's episode was by far the best of this season. I really liked the references to "Alien" with Cheryl in the cube and Archer going mad.......and.....

SPOILER:
Looks like Archer is starting to wake from his coma!! We got to see the whole gang with season 1 outfits!

Really, it's actually less about spotting specific Easter egg's IMHO as it is about counting various space-tropes and design trends from Star Wars through 2000s sci fi.

The Seamus is your basic "ISO Standard Human Spaceship" brick in space design.

Archer gears up with what looks like a Aliens USCMC smart gun, motion tracker and armor that also looks influenced by design of the Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry armor.

Their shuttle is clearly derived from the standard "tilt-engine VTOL human combat shuttle" design of the Pelican from HALO, the landing boats from Starship Troopers and their originator, the USCMC Cheyene dropship.

Many of the firearms have that "offspring of a Belgian submachinegun and an iPod" look of films like Oblivion, District 9 and Elysium.

The "Cubert" is reminiscent of any Mcguffin "space treasure that drives the crew insane" found in movies like Sphere, Event Horizon, Supernova, etc.

Finding your own clone from Oblivion, Battlestar Galactica, countless others.

The sentient doomsday weapon I'm sure has been done multiple times in Star Trek and Doctor Who.

Sentient bomb is from Dark Star.

The monolith is from 2001, the insanity from Event Horizon etc as noted

Finished the season and I'd say it was... OK. Funny, but just not as many laughs as in the early years, although I certainly liked the sf setting.

The show's now been renewed for an eleventh season - sploosh! Some minor spoilers here, and a Comic-Con interview with the cast: https://ew.com/comic-con/2019/07/19/...CX9miGuKU9HFfo
