You would think with all the money they spent on CGI dragons they could give us a shot of him in the background just to show he's still around.

But with the Wall down and winter being here I'm sure there will be a lot more Direwolves coming south of the Wall.

Could be. We've already seen a zombie Ice Bear. Maybe some zombie mammoths could help take down the walls of Winterfell. (Though when you have a zombie dragon that might not be necessary.)

He didn't die off screen at all. His agony and death are detailed in the books (it took him a couple days to die). Even how the body will be disposed of is mentioned.

My wild-ass prediction on how it all ends. Once the Song of Fire and Ice was born (Jon), the Night King's watch ended. He needs to put Jon in the middle of that pinwheel so he can go on to his reward. Jon will sacrifice everything to save whatever is left of the human population, becoming the new Night King for eons.

Adding to my theory-- at first I thought that Dany and Jon's baby would be The Prince that was Promised, but I don't think humanity will last 9 months after the dead attack in earnest.

3 more GOT shows are being worked on, 1 is filming later this year and the other 2 are in the script development phase.

It makes me wonder if any of the spinoffs will try to replicate seasons 1-4 or if they'll all replicate the later seasons.

The show has gone from a smart, subversive, realistic fantasy series to a paint by number standard fantasy series. The fact that only about 25% of the viewers even seem to realize this and the rest love the way it is now and don't even understand what else it once was makes me wonder if the other series will basically be dumbed down from the start.

I don't know. It really depends on whether we get showrunners that have some balls and a vision, or if we're just going to milk this game of thrones thing like it's the marvel cinematic universe. I'm not that optimistic.

As I said on the other thread, when you watch a TV show then you should expect it's going to be pretty similar to other shows ,not a book. Martin abandoned the story and gave it over to HBO so you get the standard type of show HBO does. Maybe Martin will be more involved in these other shows or maybe he's just going to cash some fat paychecks. I would vote for the latter being way more likely.

The Marvel cinematic universe has plenty of balls and vision to go along with amazing writers and a showrunners. This is closer to the DC universe, they just don't get it.

Yeah, the MCU was probably a bad comparison. I find comic book movies generally bland and uninteresting but there's nothing particularly bad bout the MCU and I shouldn't have really made that comparison.

I guess I just sort of mean, uh, unsubversive. Just the standard normal stories we see in popular entertainment. A standard fantasy series in the GoT world.

The GOT producers/creators were pretty much unknown before the show. I guess they must have done a hell of an interview or presentation to HBO to get hired.

If one of the spinoffs is Dunk and Egg, that's a fairly standard story without much, if any, subversion of tropes. So people could be disappointed in that.

You mean Starkbucks.

To nitpick, I know people are calling it a "Starbuck's cup" but I don't think you can see a logo and it could be a generic coffee cup. Still, not likely to be at Winterfell.

I enjoyed the D&E short stories and think they'd lend themselves well to a series. It does subvert some tropes, esp. the inherent nobility of a knight-errant's work. And you could have plenty of in-jokes and foreshadowings of GOT, so that would be a plus.

The Hedge Knight would make a pretty decent stand alone movie.

GRRM has said that he wants to keep that one to tell himself. Robert's Rebellion is also out because it already has a known conclusion. I hope Dance of Dragons makes it. It's basically the Anarchy with dragons.

GRRM said on his Not A Blog there were five projects in development with HBO and now it's down to 3 and said one was The Long Night, but he's not supposed to say that.

I like Dunk and Egg too much to see it as a show RIGHT NOW. Like the novels, I want to see them finished first in print rather than on screen and unless he pulls a Beyonce on us in the next 13 days, I'm not going to get my novels wish.

The Dunk and Egg stories end with the tragedy at Summerhall, so while it might be a fairly standard story the ending is "and then everyone dies horrifically", which might be more of a shock without desensitizing people first.

To paraphrase Runyon's Law, The race is not always to the swift nor the coffee to be Starbucks, but that's the way to bet.

My theory has always been the eggs there are Danys. So in some sense Duncan is correct in that he did have a destiny.

I think it was implied heavily in Fire and Blood that the three eggs were not from there.

Quote:
During the reign of Jaehaerys Targaryen, Queen Rhaena takes on a paramour known as Lady Elissa Farman. Eventually, that relationship turns sour and Farman pops off from Dragonstone, stealing three dragon eggs and selling them in Braavos in order to fund the next phase of her life.

So… are those eventually the eggs that Daenerys receives?
It could be a red herring, but three eggs end up where Illyrio eventually lives...

Maybe they accidentally woke the Others. Maybe Duncan kept them from manifesting in Summerhall but they woke up past the Wall.

My son just pointed out that the actress who plays Yara Greyjoy is playing a very different character in the HBO miniseries Gentleman Jack:

And now my watch has ended. I cancelled HBO Now. With the free week I only paid for one month. In addition to GoT I watched the first season of Westworld (yes, I'd like to watch the second season, but I'm sticking with my conviction to cancelling after GoT ends)

The second season is not very good, imo.

I've heard Barry is great though, so I might try to binge that before my subscription is up.

Maybe we should rename this thread to "The Song of Fire and Ice" between books thread.

Then once a year someone can post "Nope, still no Winds of Winter book."

Everyone's complaining about them doing a short season instead of 10 full episodes, but after seeing that I think we would have had to wait at least three years between seasons if they had done so. As they point out, they made the equivalent of six theatrical movies as it was.

Tomorrow I am traveling to Bolivia, coincidentally to the area where Che Guevara lived his last days before being captured and executed. I came across this quote, from his farewell letter to Fidel Castro.

I wonder if GRRM picked up the phrasing from Che.

Best moment: Kit Harrington didn't read his script before the first read through. So you get to watch him find out that
SPOILER:
Jon kills Danaerys

It's just a stunning moment, well worth watching.

Where is this stuff coming from? Not a single episode of season 6 was of theatrical length. They claimed they would be, but they weren't. Even at the numbers I put up here, I'm pretty sure not a single one clocked 1:20 if you don't count the titles and previously on.

These are the official numbers. I know I turned off Episode 2 at 1:19, and it had a previously on at the start which is likely included.

1 54
2 58
3 1:22
4 1:18
5 1:20
6 1:20

A minimum for me a feature length is 1 hour and 30 minutes. I'd say most of the 1:20 ish ones had 1:16 in actual content (removing previously on titles).

So can we put this to bed, please? They were extended episodes. Not mini movies. The hype train for GOT sold us. It wasn't true.
