Yes, it was free. I paid absolutely nothing when I picked it up then.

I checked the link Friday evening. It said $12.99 then. I checked again Saturday and Sunday thinking maybe it had been announced but hadn't started yet. Maybe it ended Friday.

Steam is actually running 3 free weekends: DayZ, The Crew 2, and Street Fighter 5.

Holy crap, y'all: Subnautica is free! This is probably my favorite game of the past year or so, and if you haven't played it, you should absolutely get it.

Damn... That looks pretty good. I'm hoping I can run it on my middling laptop. I'll have to check against the benchmark in the specs when I get home.

Not only is it free but Epic Games, in an attempt to build a subscriber base, will be offering a free game every two weeks for the next year. Next up is Super Meat Boy.

As it happens I already have Subnautica on Steam but got it here too cuz why not? Fun game.

I saw that, and "free" is my price point for SMB. I like my games to be pretty (thus Subnautica), and life's too short for impossible games, but not too short at least to try them out, especially when they're free and especially when they get as much praise as that game gets.

I’ve “dipped my toe” in Subnautica now, and it’s pretty cool (and just pretty). I’m enjoying the challenge of gathering all the stuff to make tools.

PSA: There is a checkbox to NOT receive emails. If you don't want to get email from Epic Games, then you have to CHECK the checkbox.

Thread on Subnautica for folks just getting into it. Such an amazing game. There may be a few times that using the Wiki is helpful--I hit one particular place where I had to find a semirandomly-placed object, and the Wiki saved me from doing a few hours of boring ground-combing.

I installed the Epic launcher shortly after Fortnite came out. Played a few rounds and then immediately uninstalled it again. Subnautica has been on my list for a while, so it was worth a new install.

I just finished my first session - played long enough to craft the first few tools. What a gorgeous game.

I'm with you on that. SMB style games and impossibly hard games really are not my bag but can't beat free so I'll give it a go.

I was super excited about Subnautica, downloaded it and....promptly realized my PC graphics card can't handle it Hell, even opening the Epic Games launcher takes like 5+ minutes to accomplish. I'm in desperate need of a new card and more RAM but I can't afford either. Damn capitalist society.

At least you have it now, and can wait until you can afford the new hardware.

Most of the time I don't worry about the settings of a game, but this one you really want to play at the highest settings you can manage. The ripple of the surface, the glow of bioluminescence, the shine of light through deep waters are all breathtaking.

Ubisoft will give you a free copy of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey if you test-play a demo of the game via Chrome's Project Stream for 1 hour.

Neat. Looks like Project Stream is invite only, you can fill out a form and they'll let you know if you're accepted: https://projectstream.google.com/aco/signup

LEGO: Lord of the Rings is free on Humble Bundle "while supplies last." You have to subscribe to their newsletter to get it, but it counts if you already are like I was.

Note: When you claim it, you have to go down to the bottom of the "here's your claim" page and activate it on steam. The steam key expires in a week or so, so be sure to activate on your steam library when you claim it from humble bundle or you won't end up getting it.

EDIT: Just wanted to say I've been an appreciative fan of this thread for a while now. Happy to finally contribute something!

Good find. I thought I just got Lego Lord of the Rings for free, but that was Lego The Hobbit. Too many free games to play these days, but it's a good problem to have.

Game might be free but Humble Store made me click on a whole bunch of crosswalks, busses, traffic lights, and motorcycles to get it. Their site still hasn't given me access to a key, they seem to be having traffic issues.

ETA: Finally got it, third time trying.

I didn't get any Captchas, but I got the "verify your computer" for the hundredth time (yes I'm sure it's the same computer) followed by several clickthrus of Get Game > Get Game > Go here to get the key.

A Story About My Uncle is free on Humble Store until the 12th (or while supplies last)

Free Humble games tend to have an expiration on their keys so activate it when you get it instead of letting it sit in your purchases. Humble also likes to drown me in captchas so that's fun. "Pick the bus" twenty times is like an extra game in of itself, right?

Guess who won one of the DOSBox giveaway bundles on Gog?

I have 19 new (old) games, most of which I never heard of. I wasn't even all that interested in winning, and I certainly didn't expect to because I never win anything. Color me surprised.

For the record, the games are:
  • Earthworm Jim 1+2: The Whole Can 'O Worms
  • Heroes of Might and Magic®
  • Realms of Arkania 1+2
  • Master of Magic
  • Last Express, The
  • Dungeon Keeper Gold™
  • Wing Commander ®: Privateer ™
  • Slipstream 5000
  • Little Big Adventure 2 (Twinsen's Odyssey)
  • Crusader: No Regret™
  • Theme Hospital
  • Carmageddon Max Pack
  • Tomb Raider 1+2+3
  • Magic Carpet™ 2: The Netherworlds
  • Syndicate Wars™
  • Caesar
  • Jazz Jackrabbit Collection
  • Epic Pinball: The Complete Collection
  • AND the stretch goal (???? for a contest?): Fantasy General

Now I guess I'll have to learn how to use DOSBox so I can at least look at 'em all.

Is there any way to see a list of my owned games on the steam website, or is the only way to see the list to run the steam launcher?

It really seems like the kind of thing you should be able to see on the website. As in, "Let me verify I just got credit for buying that free game..." As far as I can tell, the only way I can get to a list of my owned games on steam is via the launcher.

You can see your owned games when looking at your profile, there's "Games" in the rightside sidebar. Also through "Account" you can look at all the Licenses and product activations, purchases etc.

Those are some great games if you can get over the graphics. Master of Magic and Wing Command Privateer are 2 of my favorites.
