Ah, yeah, it sounds like you've only done snake drafts, where each player gets a turn to pick someone, rather than auction drafts where everyone can bid on any players they want. Auction is ultimately more rewarding and gives you teams more in line with what you want, but it's more complicated.

Anyway, I understand if you want to pull out. You can go ahead and leave the league, and we'll manage with 16.

From the "my teams and leagues" page on yahoo, click edit, and you can drop a league from there.

If we're drafting with 16 with a lower nomination timer, I think we could delay the draft and still finish earlier than we used to, so I definitely want to keep you included. I think 8:45 is probably the latest we could go, though - you'd miss out on the top 10 or 12 picks, but you'd still be fine drafting a viable team. I'd like to try to include you if that works.

8:30 should be fine - it's looking more likely that I'll be home sometime between then and 9. I'd be fine missing the first 1/2 hour - plenty of time to fill out the roster after that.

Alright, done.

Should be all set. I moved back the draft a half hour. Shouldn't hurt anyone's attendance since they were planning to be there anyway, and because we'll be drafting short handed with faster nom times this year it should still finish up faster than it normally does.

Draft is in about 7 hours.

I'll tell Hamlet his offer to fill in won't be necesary - he hadn't actually accepted his invite yet, so the 16 player count is without Hamlet. Unless we have a last minute cancellation, I suppose, I'll see if he'll stand by just in case.

I'm pretty new here, and I just saw this thread. I would be very interested, and I am a fairly serious fantasy player -- I am an active player, even when my team is doing poorly.

I would definitely want to join if there were an opening, but I will be driving from 5 to 5:45 or 6. Pacific time. For auction drafts, this is less critical, because you can nominate any player at any time, so it would not necessarily mean a terrible team....

If you need someone to make an even number, I'd be interested in doing it.

Well sure, Hamlet is still on standby to make it even, I think, so we could include you. Could you PM me an e-mail address you want to be invited at?

Cool. Hope this works out. 18 would be better than 16, IMO.

Alright, I'll try this again. If anyone is interested, we could do a live voice chat during the draft tonight over discord. It's really easy to set up and doesn't require installing anything, you can run it from a web browser.

You can use This link and join the general voice chat channel in the bottom left. I think you have to give your browser permission to use your microphone.

Anyway, I know not everyone will come, but even if a few come it'll be fun to actually talk rather than type during the draft, although that's fun too.

Draft is in just over an hour. I'll be on discord around 5 to help anyone who might be having trouble with it.

I usually go Stars and Scrubs, but I think this is the biggest gap for me between starters and my bench yet. Interesting to see how it will play out this year with extra players on the waiver.

Self review:

Patrick Mahomes $19
Case Keenum $5

I overpaid for Mahomes a few bucks. Kind of a metagame concern. I wanted a piece of him this year in some league so I could follow along with him and I failed to get him in my other leagues so I may have overpaid a few bucks to get him in this one. Plus unlimited upside - I figure in a league like this with 18 people it's good to have a lot of upside, you're going to need things to go your way on the way to the championship and drafting upside gives you that chance for everything to come together. Keenum for $5 was because I anticipated every QB would be drafted (they were) and I thought because they'd all be valuable that $5 would probably be the floor of their pricing, so I might as well grab a guy for what I felt was the cheapest price that would be available. Ended up being wrong, with a few backup QBs going cheaper.

RB
Gurley $69
Aaron Jones $12
Doug Martin $3
Nymheim Hines $1

I actually won the first nomination for Gurley. I almost never go for top tier players, but I felt like people weren't making the adjustment enough to the big league format, and were underpaying for top stars. So I figured the best thing to do in that situaton would be to get the top guy in the draft. It ended up that I set the market by doing that, and all the subsequent great RBs came at nearly the same price, but not over like they probably should've. So it just looks in line with the rest of the values rather than a steal. In general, the top picks in this league were a steal relative to what you'd expect with 18 people.

Aaron Jones seems like a good bet to me - two game suspension. GB coaches are talking up Jamal Williams, but Jones was simply better when given the chance. I'm hoping performance wins out, and $12 will be a really good price. Doug Martin for $3 came early on, but there comes a point where you've got to fill your team with part time players or backups and hope they become productive for a few bucks. Hines is a great $1 end of roster bid - there's a wide open RB situation in Indy, and he's likely the third down back regardless of how that goes, so there's a flex worthy bit of production to be had there.

WR
JOSH GORDON $30
Kelvin Benjamin $12
Mike Williams $5
Kenny Golladay $6
Ted Ginn Jr $4

JOSH GORDON was nominated third specifically to sucker me in to overpaying for him but I feel like I got a very fair price for him, maybe a little on the cheap side. I like him more than most of the guys who went between $30 and $45. You don't really need me to talk him up, do you?

I don't like Kelvin Benjamin, but when I bid on him the pickings were getting slim. Someone literally has to catch the ball in Buffalo, and I figure as the only target he's got a floor of at least like 700/4, which is useful enough in this league. I'm rather happy with Mike Williams and Kenny Golladay as my cheap upside WRs. Williams was a first round draft pick (I think) and just got injured - no reason he can't be productive this year. And people like Golladay to become #2 in a prolific Lions attack. Ted Ginn is a decent buy for $4, he puts up flex-worthy numbers in NO.

TE
Zack Ertz $24, Cameron Brate $1

I like Ertz at 24 compared to Gronk at 35 and Kelce at 36. I did have a few sleepers I really like at TE this year so I could've cheaped out on this position, but I felt like the value was there so I bid. I actually didn't intend to have Cameron Brate - it was my nom, and I wasn't sure who to nominate, and I just clicked brate being near the top of the list figuring someone would outbid me. Then no one did. I'm fine with him as a backup for $1 though.

K/DST
Jacksonville $7
Daniel Carlson $2

Carlson is a dome kicker, 2 bucks. Pretty standard.

I feel like Jacksonville was worth paying a couple extra bucks beyond what other defenses were going for because it's the only one you can really safely project to be good this year. It's hard to stream defenses in this league simply because the unowned ones tend to be bottom 5 defenses, so there's a lot of value in just having an every week starter that you can plug in and forget.

Overall, I think I've got a playoff team if Mahomes puts up some fantasy points in his first year of starting. Pretty well balanced roster with no huge glaring weaknesses other than RB depth - first two weeks will be rough for me as Josh Gordon is eased back into the starting lineup and Aaron Jones is suspended, but I should be good every week after that barring a lot of injuries, or Jones not becoming a useful asset could potentially sink my team.

Well, I'll post mine, because I almost have the identical team to Beef (Overpay for a QB, take a top RB, fight for scraps for WR2 and 3)

1. (2) Le'Veon Bell (Pit - RB) $59

Oh boy am I worried about Bell. I wasn't able to get Connor, if he comes back after game 1 I feel like I have a bargain, but if he's out for too long I'm sunk. I remember previous years the first stud went for a reasonable price and the second and third went over, so after beef got Gurley I figured I wouldn't get Bell, but I think other people may have discounted him due to uncertainty more than I did

2. (10) Matthew Stafford (Det - QB) $20

A definite overpay. Previous years, I'd be ecstatic getting a Rivers/Ryan/Stafford tier player for $20, but I think going from 20 to 18 discounted QBs the most. Or I am misremembering

3. (29) Demaryius Thomas (Den - WR) $31

My only real WR, I'm ok with this value, though I maybe should have waited and got a
worse $20 guy and had more than $7 for other WRs

4. (32) Marshawn Lynch (Oak - RB) $20

Not my favorite guy, of the ~$20 RBs, I like about half more than Lynch, half less.

5. (41) Bilal Powell (NYJ - RB) $12

I hope I don't have to play him much, but a playable guy who isn't likely to lose his job for $12 is nice

6. (51) Evan Engram (NYG - TE) $17

I think TE is one of the other big discounts from 20 -> 18. I got a discount here, but given my WR troubles, I should have taken a cheaper guy.

7. (58) Rex Burkhead (NE - RB) $20

Not quite my favorite ~$20 RB, but if $15 Ingram didn't happen (steal of the draft, maybe) he would be.

8. (102) Derek Carr (Oak - QB) $5

Did not expect there to be cheaper backup QBs other than Peterman type guys, don't mind that there were slightly cheaper options. I expect a bounceback from last year

9. (138) New Orleans (NO - DEF) $3

Good starting schedule, don't want to stream in this league

10. (175) Josh Doctson (Was - WR) $5

I'd much rather have him on my bench than a starter. I like him as a sleeper, but he might not wake up. I maybe should have bid that fifth dollar on Ginn.

11. (195) Danny Amendola (Mia - WR) $2

Savior of the draft for me. I'm really glad Beef didn't convince Hamlet to steal him from me. I needed a WR3, and I think Stills is probably the WR to own in Miami, but Amendola has a good shot at volume. Health is a concern.

12. (218) Ty Montgomery (GB - RB) $3

I was ready to go at this point, I'm glad I got a real person for this money.

13. (249) Ryan Succop (Ten - K) $1
14. (257) Jake Butt (Den - TE) $1
15. (264) Seattle (Sea - DEF) $1

Overview: If Bell comes back, Bell, Burkhead and Lynch are a really strong RB core. That, along with a better than average TE and an average QB hopefully cover for a weak WR core. If Bell doesn't come back, I'll have to hope to hit some waiver wire gems.

I'm posting this here to remind myself from next year: Let's eliminate kickers to reduce the draft time. Everyone has to get a kicker and it takes 30-40 seconds each time, and they're kinda random for fantasy purposes anyway. I think this would be a good league to pioneer going kickerless.

Shit. I decided to start Gordon even though he was questionable coming into the late game because I thought the Pats would show him off and force him a TD. Now he's not starting. I went from an almost guaranteed win to a 50/50 shot. Either of the guys I'd play instead of Gordon put up 22 and 11.

Well, you won anyway! My bench decisions have evened out so far this season.

In Week 1, I benched T.J. Yeldon in favor of Allen Hurns. That cost me 12 points, and I lost the game by 8. This week, I benched Yeldon in favor of Chris Godwin. That earned me 1.9 extra points, and I won my matchup by 1.75.

Need a little clarification - the guy who runs Alex's Team, is that someone's off-board friend? I'm not sure I confirmed their identity for reference.

Here are some rankings showing actual points you scored, potential points you could have scored if you started only the highest scorers on your team, and the percentage of actual / potential.

Potential is a measure of how well you assemble your team through the draft, trades, and waivers. Coach is a measure of how well you choose your starters. Actual is the combination of the two.

This is just the Week 1 stats. Week 2 to follow shortly, and then Week 3 either tonight or tomorrow. New weeks will be posted on Wednesdays to give yahoo time to make stat corrections.

Unsurprisingly, this league has higher coaching grades than the other leagues. If anyone would like their alias changed to something else, let me know. In order to keep the tables readable on a phone, I'd prefer to keep the names to 7 or 8 characters max.

The green and red numbers show your change in ranking for that table compared to the previous week. If you were 5th last week, and are 3rd this week, you would see a +2.

Note that Week 1 stats don't show season totals because there's no point, but the season 1 stats do exist; they're the same as your week 1 stats.

Thanks Ellis for the stats, it's always interesting to see that kind of stuff.

I feel good about my team this year, I feel like I've got a deep playoff run going. The few bucks extra I paid for Mahomes is paying off and my cheapie roster filler WR guys are actually pretty good - Mike Williams had a huge game last week, Kenny Golladay is looking very good, and Josh Gordon will be back this week. And I've got Aaron Jones who should take over the Green Bay spot at some point.

This week is tough - I'm up against team anonymous/motu who has been the #1 team so far. Should be a pretty great game.

I was looking back, and it turns out my coaching score for week 1 is a sham, because I would've gotten 11 more points if I had benched my -11 point New Orleans defense and just left the spot empty.

Yeah, I noticed several people getting killed by their only defense in this league. The algorithm chooses the best you could have picked in every position, though, and if your best (only) defense scores -11, that's what it gives you.

I changed Spiritus Mundi's name from "Spiritus" to "Mundi" to match his name in the He Hate Me keeper league. (Necessary for the aggregate rankings, which will hopefully be up sometime this weekend.)

Thanks for doing those stats, Ellis. It's interesting stuff.

Speaking of coaching decisions, I'll bet Mitchell Trubisky is sitting on a lot of benches today, while he racks up 6 TDs and 300+ passing yards.

Yep. Dodged a Trubisky shaped bullet this week. Tyreek Hill can pull it out for me tonight.

Yeah, I was a bad manager this week, although I was lucky enough that it didn't cost me a win.

I was sitting at my computer, about five minutes before kickoff on Sunday morning, agonizing about whether to play T.J. Yeldon or Chris Godwin in my flex spot. Yeldon had been doing better than expected over the first three weeks, but Leonard Fournette was due back for Jacksonville, which signaled a significantly reduced workload for Yeldon. Godwin had managed a touchdown in each of the first three games.

I went with Godwin, who managed just two catches for 20 yards, while Yeldon racked up 21.5 points, including a rushing TD and a receiving TD, helped by the fact that Fournette left the game after his hamstring went on him again.

I also would have benefited significantly from playing my backup QB. Mariota had his first good game of the season, while Fatface Ben had a bad night against the Ravens.

At I said, at least I was lucky enough not to be burned by my managing. Frosted Lightning must have been pulling his hair out watching Trubisky rack up 6TDs and 300+ yards while sitting on the bench.

This coming week is my biggest Bye week, with two of my top RBs and two WRs not playing.

My dynasty team also has Yeldon, Big Ben and Mariota, and I too left Mariota on the bench and started Ben. On the plus side, week 4 gave me hope that maybe Mariota's career isn't over quite yet.

I was fortunate in the dynasty league that two of my starters (McCaffrey and Funchess) were on a bye, making Yeldon a no-brainer start if only because my other options were much worse. Go, Yeldon!

I feel like I've got a team that can win it this year. Paying a few extra bucks for Mahomes worked out. Todd Gurley is delivering just as expected. I almost never go stars and scrubs, but the scrubs ended up being guys like Kenny Golladay, Mike Williams, and Nyheim Hines, all of which are working out for me. Who knows what can happen in the playoffs but I'm pretty sure I'm getting there.

I've managed to get to 4-1, and if I hadn't made a bad managerial call in Week 1, I could be 5-0. This week was my biggest Bye week, in terms of sheer numbers, with four players out, and I manged to get a win..

I've gotten a little bit lucky in terms of competition. Only 3 teams have had fewer points scored against them than my team. As far as my own scoring goes, I'm currently 4th on the table and 7th in overall scoring, so that's not too far out of whack.

Leonard Fournette's ongoing injury struggles are helping me considerably, as TJ Yeldon has been racking up some decent numbers. My RB position is pretty weak overall, though, especially at actually running the ball. My 3 RBs have less than 600 yards of rushing between them, and only 2 rushing TDs.

Well, I'm the point leader so far, which is nice. Thank Og David Johnson is falling into the endzone the last couple games and that James White has been more important to the Pats than even I had anticipated. A few injuries, especially at the TE position, have hurt, but we're hanging in. But if I lose DJ or Barkley, I think this nice run will be over.

So it was brought to my attention that Alex's Team may have abandoned his team. In these cases, I usually end up doing the minimum possible management to field a viable team (change the starters to whatever yahoo says is best, drop IR players and pick up the best projected guy at that position, etc), because it's not really fair to leave them derelict - not everyone plays everyone else, so some people getting a free win when others don't could potentially swing playoff spots. So it seems like the most fair thing to do is at least give it some minimal management to stay viable, rather than purely a free win.

I'll e-mail the guy and see if I can get him to stick around, but if not, not a big deal. We were pressured to fill league with warm bodies this year so it was always possible we'd end up with this sort of situation.

Emphasis mine.

That seems to have been a somewhat premature assessment. It's the Steelers' bye week coming up, so I'm hoping that Mariota can pull out one merely mediocre (rather than catastrophic) performance, and give me a chance to win my matchup. The last couple of weeks do not give me much hope, however.

He took 11 (!!!!!) sacks against the Ravens today. I haven't been watching the games, but is the Tennessee O-line made of tissue paper or something?

They're actually quite good. Tennessee went down 21-0 midway through the third quarter and abandoned the run, and kept trying seven step drops that nobody uses anymore. PFF had them ranked as the #5 line heading into the season, and although they were ranked #20 after week 3 that's not terrible. They do have at least one starting tackle out I think.

Well, after this week's round, I remain 7th overall in total team scoring, but have moved up to 3rd on the ladder. I'm still benefiting from the fact that I keep running into people having a bad week. I have the second-lowest points-against total in the league.

Hamlet's in an interesting position. He has the lowest points-against total of anyone, and also the highest points-scored total, yet he's not leading the league. That honor goes to covfefe, who is now 6-0 after winning a close contest against SenorBeef this week.

My managing was OK this week. I could have added about 9 points by playing Chester Rogers instead of Jordan Howard. Howard seems to have really dropped off the map in Chicago, at least in terms of fantasy scoring. Tarik Cohen isn't logging as many rushing yards as Howard, but Cohen managed to get in the end-zone this week, and he's also getting far more receptions, which is big in our league.

I could also have helped my score by dropping the New England D to the bench and playing without a Defense. I thought about doing that a few minutes before kickoff on Sunday night, but decided against it. Bad move, as KC racked up 40.

My team is looking like a monster. I'm 5-2 with both losses coming under 5 points, Todd Gurley is the #1 fantasy player, Mahomes is the #1 QB, Ertz is the #1 TE, and I just got lucky that Lynch went down, since I own Doug Martin. Josh Gordon is also going to be putting up #1 numbers for the rest of the year as he acclimates to the Pats offense.

Even my bit players are pretty alright - Aaron Jones, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay, Nyheim Hines are all guys I don't have to wince when I start them. Most big league teams have at least a starter or two that's painful to put in that slot.

Yahoo's power rankings (projected score rest of season) has me up at the top.

So I wonder what catastrophe will derail me this year.

Congrats to Str8dope My Foot (Covfefe) for starting undefeated through 7 weeks. We've got some powerhouses at the top this year.

My team is not a monster. Rather, it has been a model of consistency, especially after my Week 1 loss, where Big Ben shat the bed and I made a couple of bad lineup calls.

After that first game, my record is 6-0, and my scoring in those games has been:

128.62
111.61
111.66
120.12
125.25
123.53

No huge scores, but no bad scores either, even when some of my better players have had Bye weeks. I was even lucky enough, this week, that my backup QB Marcus Mariota managed not to be completely disastrous.

My middle-of-the-road consistency seems to match my team. Apart from Adam Thielen, who's the top WR in the league right now (7 straight games over 100 yards), I don't really have any superstars. My top RB is a guy I drafted as an RB3, TJ Yeldon, and his production has been largely thanks to Fournette's injury. I'll be interested to see how much he regresses now that the Jaguars have picked up Carlos Hyde. One thing that gives me hope is that much of Yeldon's production comes from his receiving game, and that might not change too much even if Hyde takes over a lot of the running.

Along with the team's consistency, I've been lucky enough that I have not (yet) run into an opponent having a huge week. This week, for example, I played RshawnHochuliPeppers (Darth Sensitive), and he only managed 80.29 points. And yet a week ago he scored 170.65 (with almost exactly the same lineup) and racked up the biggest victory in Big League history.
