NFL 2018 Regular Season

We've been doing individual threads for each week, but I think the last 5 weeks can go in a single thread. All the previous threads were only 1 or 2 pages long, and this way we don't have to stress about starting the new thread on time.

Here are links to the previous weekly threads, because why not:

Week 1
Week 2
Week 3
Week 4
Week 5
Week 6
Week 7
Week 8
Week 9
Week 10
Week 11
Week 12

I'm thinking anyone can post the new week's schedule anytime between Thursday and Sunday. I'll start us off with the week 13 schedule in the next post.

NFL Week 13

It sure began with a bang with Dallas' stunning upset of what, up until last night, had been an unstoppable Saints' juggernaut. It left a whole lot of bookies crying in their beer, that's for sure.

So, if the Bears can beat the lowly Giants and go to 9-3, they'll be nestled in right behind the Saints and a Rams' team that they could actually pass if they can upset them on December 9th at Soldier Field. The plot thickens!!

Not a great game for the refs last night. How do you miss that head-to-head hit?

Rarely do I get that frustrated with the officiating in a game not involving the Bears, but last nights game was a disaster. So many bad calls, mostly because they were very inconsistent, and they all seemed to be at critical moments.

But, the Saints loss is great for the Bears so I guess I'll take it.

Brees just didn’t look good in that game. The Cowboys really stepped up but wow, did Drew use up all his juice for the year too early?

Well, Brees is up there in age and this was a short week. Thursday night games should either follow a bye week or be abolished.

Brees was really shaky and the Pokes did a good job of pressing him up the middle. Seemed like it really disrupted him, more than you'd expect from a vet. Also, the WRs were just blanketed. The Refs seemed to allow an awful lot of contact (except when they didn't) which played into Dallas's hands.

I agree about working the bye weeks and Thursday night games together into the schedule. But both the teams last night were actually on a full week's rest because they both played on Thanksgiving.

Chicago played the noon Thanksgiving game after their previous game was flexed to the Sunday night spot. They had 3.5 days from final whistle to kickoff.

Right, the NFL is suuuuuuuper concerned about player safety.

I had forgotten that both teams were actually on a full week's rest last night. Never mind my previous comment about them.

This was a game that the Cowboys needed a LOT more than the Saints, and it showed. Brees gave credit where credit was due rather than cast aspersions on the officiating, and I thought that was large of him.

Plus, as bad as it was it went both ways. It was totally incompetent but at least unbiased.

Kind of like the best MLB umpires...

I think it was pretty heavily in the Cowboys favor. At least in the 4th quarter, they got all the breaks. I don't think it was home-cookin', I just think the screw ups came at opportune times for them.

It's helpful if you add a little detail to this sort of post.

My guess is you're referring to reports of a video, apparently from a Cleveland hotel in February, that appear to show Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt getting into an argument with a woman, which escalated into a physical altercation.

Link to story on SI, which includes footage of the video: https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/11/30/ka...l-chiefs-video

Interesting stat of last night's game:

In all his time in the NFL, Drew Brees has never started a game 0 for 4 in pass attempts.

Until last night!

Thanks for creating the thread, I should've just done it at the season start. There used to be a lot more week to week discussion in the NFL so I broke it up, but now we can probably settle just fine with a seasonal thread.

I guess I'm the first to break the news that Kareem Hunt was cut by the Chiefs after video of his altercation with some people in a hotel a while back was released.

I think you can put a fork in the Skins, with Smith out. I'd love to be wrong though.

I think Spencer Ware is going to thrive equally in that ridiculous offense just like Hunt. I don't think they'll miss a beat that way.

I also happen to think that the Chiefs aren't good enough as a team to represent the AFC in the Superbowl. I honestly believe that they'll run into a Stealers team that's been there before, or a team like the Patriots that will simply negate them.

Saints v Pats, next Superbowl. Saints somehow win.

Put a fork in them, the Pack is done. Can't even beat a 2-9 team at home.

Yeah, though, the way they'd played the past few weeks, I can't say that it surprised me.

All the signs are pointing to some big changes in Titletown come January. Given that this is their first year under GM Brian Gutekunst, and given that they just signed Rodgers to a massive contract extension, I'd suspect that McCarthy and his staff will be the ones being shown the door.

Did anyone see that play near the end of the Rams/Lions game, where Gurley broke free around the 35, ran down to about the 2 with no one to beat, and then started crossing the field? He got about half way across before being tackled a yard or two from the goal line. I get the part about burning clock, but that was one of the weirder things I have seen.

Wow. I didn't expect the Packers to make a move until after the season ended.

They've fired Mike McCarthy, and named Joe Philbin interim head coach.

And about time. Several weeks too late.

At least we won't have to listen to his post game interviews that are as predictable as his offense.

McCarthy's final entry in the Packer record books: he is the first coach to be fired by the Packers in mid-season. The only other Packers head coach to not finish out a season was Gene Ronzani, who resigned with two games left in 1953.

About time he lost his job. He's been horrible at management of the game for years. Now, it's like he's infected the whole squad with a sense of futility.

That was a wild ending to the Sunday night game. I guess the saving grace for the Steelers players is that it will be hard for the team to cut anybody for throwing the win away, given that it seemed like the whole defense was guilty.

Anyone else getting tired of all the graphics they add to the field? It was not really bothering me until I saw an play analysis where they put a PS4 or whatever style spinny disc thing under one of the players. Sometimes it would be pleasant to watch a game without all that shit added to the field. I would say that soccer is better that way, except every soccer game I have seen has those damn ad displays around the field.

The problem is just as much Aaron Rodgers as McCarthy. I used to like Rodgers, but he's becoming a sniveling snotty nosed punk like Jay Cutler.

The Browns used to go through one QB after another as if they were disposable wipes.

Apparently the Redskins have taken over that role.

I'm curious if they are going to rename the Mike McCarthy Show (it has been named for the current coach in the past) I guess it doesn't take that long to change the title graphic.
For those not familiar it is a half hour show "reviews and previews games this week, is joined by a special Packers guest and a question and answer session with the fans"

So what does the NFL, and what do the Skins do now? They obviously have no QB and it's pretty obvious that Colin Kaepernick can at least play the position at a mediocre level, and even beyond that at times.

By failing to sign Kap, the NFL is basically saying it's more okay to beat women than it is to kneel during the national anthem. The NFL can go screw itself. It's not dying because middle-aged white men are disgusted with it; it's dying because under Roger Goodell the league and the product have no authenticity and integrity. And I guess because in this day and age there are a million other ways to entertain thyself.

Washington should sign Kaepernick. They’re desperate for a QB, they have a serious image problem due to the having a racial slur as a name, and they’re hanging onto the mere possibility of an off-season by their fingernails.

I don’t know if they can though. Did losing two QBs free up cap space or is that just a lot of dead money now? Colin definitely wasn’t interested in backup QB money at Seattle so he’s going to want starter cash. Can they afford to pay him? They may have to settle for someone willing to take less cash, like a Kellen Clemens, or just try to make it work with Sanchez (and frankly I don’t think they can do it with someone like that).

And is Colin still in shape? Did his injuries hurt his throwing? He might not be as good as he was anymore.

Washington's decision making as a franchise is questionable at best. That said, I don't know if it's obvious that Kap is at least a mediocre QB. He hasn't played in what, two years? And doesn't he have an ongoing lawsuit against the NFL?

Kap had his chance to return to the NFL last year with Baltimore and he (and/or his girlfriend) was more interested in stirring controversy.

Bruce Allen (Redskins team President) is pretty hard-line Republican. His brother is former Virginia governor and Senator George Allen. Dan Snyder donated $1 million to Donald Trump’s inaugural committee and $112K in 2015-16 to Right to Rise, a super PAC created to support Jeb Bush. 'Nuff said.

As long as those two are in charge, the Redskins will NEVER even look in Kap's general direction.
