There's some kind of bug where if you try to get it through the Origin client, the only option is to purchase it as a gift. Without launching the client, go to the origin.com and buy it there, then open the client to download.

Cool, I've been wanting to try Asetto Corsa, Endless Space 2, and Black Desert. Don't Starve Together might be cool too.

Looks like Kingdom New Lands is free on the Epic Games Store until June 13th. Then itís Enter The Gungeon from June 13th to June 20th.

Kingdom New Lands is one of those 2D side-scrolling city builders.

Nice. I don't think I really want to play the game, but I'd love to explore the map.

Have they patched it to the point that it's worth playing at that price?

You can't edit posts on this board past 5 minutes - but in any case the free periods are short, so just reading new posts will keep you up to date.

Ubisoft is doing a subscription service and offering a free month (Sept 3-30) if you register before August 15th. You do need to provide a valid credit card and they will bill you $15 on October 1st if you don't cancel before then. But if you can live with that, you can get a month's worth of free Ubisoft game playing.

Age of Wonders 3 is free on steam. You can register it now and keep it forever (they're promoting the next game in the sequel; there's also a big dlc sale).

Moonlighter is free on Epic Games Store this week. I'd like to try it, but after "purchasing" it, Epic Games Launcher tells me my OS (Mac) is unsupported and won't let me download it, even though I exceed the system requirements.

This War of Mine is free, too. Starting next Friday, Alan Wake and For Honor are both free.

This War of Mine is listed in the store as being free, but if you click on the link it says it's unavailable.

I bought This War of Mine awhile ago, but only played a couple times. Bit too depressing. I don't like being forced to think about all the civilians caught in the crossfire on some Battlefield, Call of Duty or ArmA map.

I "purchased" it Thursday evening, and got the receipt. It showed up in my library immediately. Yesterday when I looked at my library it was still there, but said "UNAVAILABLE" in big red letters. If I look at the store listing when I'm not logged in, it says free, but if I'm logged in it says it's unavailable.

You're actually meant to be thinking about the real-life civilians caught in the crossfire during the Bosnian war, not fictional ones. But I agree that it does the job a little too well.

I see "This War of Mine" as $19.99 on Steam. How do I get it free?

Well, you missed it on the Epic Games Store which has moved on to other freebies as previously noted.

I keep hearing negativity about Epic Game launcher, but I keep adding free games and any game I have launched has worked OK. What's up?

There have been threads about it already and I don't want to hijack, but the gist is that the negativity is coming from players who don't like Epic's strategy of paying developers for exclusive or timed-exclusive releases.

Also manipulating little kids into giving them lots of money in Fortnite. Which is one of those games with tons of features that "force" people to play all the time or risk falling behind their friends ; and has lootboxes for cash. And while Fortnite is played by tons of people, I can tell you from direct experience that *every single kid* on the playground has an account and is hooked badly on it. It's all they talk about at recess, and it's really quite spooky.

That and the service is basically equivalent to a crippled Steam that lacks the features of Steam.

I've only played the Battle Royale and a little bit of creative, but as far as I can tell in BR everyone starts every round with the same gear -- nothing -- no matter how much they've played before. I don't see how you'd "fall behind" by not playing all the time. Any money spent is on things that are purely cosmetic. Even though I don't normally like competitive online games, I enjoy Fortnite because when I get beat I know it's because the other player(s) were actually more skillful and not because they spent money or time building up hard to beat characters.

I can't comment on Save the World because haven't played it and I won't unless/until it becomes free to play as well.

"It's just cosmetic" doesn't mean there is no pressure to buy all the things. You're a rational adult with a developed decision-making apparatus. Kids *need* the shiny thing NOW (and mercilessly tease those who don't have the shiny thing). And a lot of the cosmetic things are gated behind "you need to play this many hours this week (or you could pay, just sayin')"
