SDMB All-Pro Fantasy Football 2018

Last year's thread

Going into our 12th year.

We usually draft for this league on the Thursday after the third preseason game, which would put us at August 30. Probably 8 eastern/5 pacific. But that's during the 4th preseason games, which some of you probably watch, so I'll suggest Wednesday the 29th. If there's a problem with that, speak up now.

No rule changes for this year yet, feel free to propose one if you've got an idea.

Everyone is invited to return this year and no one has yet decided not to play this year, but if you're not going to, please inform us now.

Don't want to put you in a lurch, but I think I'd like to withdraw. Felt a bit repetitive with my other leagues rules-wise and a bit too little interaction among owners for my tastes.

If you really have trouble finding a replacement, I'd still participate to avoid needing to constrict teams.

I said in the dynasty league thread I was going to withdraw, but I changed my mind. So you don't need to replace me in this league.

Is anyone here interested in playing in the SDMB's oldest league, the He Hate Me keeper league? We've got 2 slots open there. Or in the big league, where we've got at least one slot?

Alright guys, we lost magnusblitz and Overly Sentimental this year. As their replacements, we have Hi, Neighbor! and Sir T-Cups.

I'm setting the draft to Wednesday, Aug 29 at 8:30 eastern, as mentioned in the OP.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome guys (are you both guys? if not, then I'm using the gender neutral version of guys).

SenorBeef - you mentioned in the recruitment thread that we're looking for two more but we're all full up, right?

There are scheduling conflicts with the draft I'm waiting to hear back about before I propose any changes so potentially everyone could attend, otherwise someone may have to back out. I also forgot that d_odds told us last year that he wouldn't be joining us this year, so I was expecting him to take his place in the league and instead I'll need a replacement.

Alright, here's where we're at. Sir T-Cups and Hi, Neighbor signed up but didn't notice the draft date/time in the OP. T-cups says he's busy that Wednesday, but free that Tuesday/Thursday. I tried to contact Hi, Neighbor to see if one of those would work, but he hasn't responded to me. I was trying to find a draft date/time that worked for everyone, and I wasn't going to propose changes until they both got back to me, but since I still haven't heard from Hi, Neighbor I guess we'll just have to go ahead.

If we changed the draft to Tuesday or Thursday, Aug 28 or 30th, would everyone be able to make it? If not, then we'll just stay with Wednesday (because in that case we're just trading one person for another), but ideally we can shift it a day and retain Sir T-Cups. And perhaps Hello, Neighbor can make it too whenever he gets back to me. Otherwise we'll have to fill one more slot, and fantasy interest has been way down this year so if anyone wants to get a friend in on the league that'd be fine.

Sorry guys. I'm new and already causing problems.

Then again I'm technically a millennial so I'm also entitled and expect everything to be given to me

Did someone who was in the league leave the league? We were at 11/12 before, now 10/12.

I'll try to settle in for a final draft plan tomorrow. I'm simply failing to get anyone new in any fantasy leagues this year - we may end up having to run this league as a 10 man league this year.

Alright guys, draft day is almost upon us and I can't seem to squeeze any more recruits from the SDMB stone. I don't know what else to do - I've advertised to the other leagues, asked some people if they wanted to run in another league, asked people to invite friends, started a recruitment thread - just not happening this year.

This is true of the other leagues too.

So here's where we're at. We're currently sitting at 10 players. We could run the league at 10 teams this year. Not ideal, but doesn't really hurt anything. But we'd have to draft on Tuesday. Sir T-cups is one of those 10, and isn't available Wednesday. And Thursday doesn't work for a few people in this thread. And it's too out of the norm to ask people to draft on a weekend or holiday, and the HHM and big leagues take up Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, with Thursday being opening night.

But the shitty part of that is that not everyone chimed in if they were available Tuesday, and I'd be changing the draft date to... tomorrow. I was holding out to make that decision because I'd hoped some of my last minute recruiting would work, but this is the best we can do.

So I'm going to PM/e-mail everyone to try to confirm that people will be able to attend the draft tomorrow at the normal time. I hope no one thinks this change is sudden or unexpected, as I've been asking people for a week whether they'd be available or not on Tuesday.

Unless anyone objects because they can't make Tuesday (at which point we'll come up with some sort of emergency plan) or has any better ideas, I'm going to PM/e-mail people to confirm the Tuesday at 8:30 draft time.

Sorry for all the runaround, doing my best in a tough situation here.

No worries dude, everyone recognizes how much effort you put into these leagues. I don't think its specific to the boards either, in one of my money leagues we had a hell of a time getting a replacement and in previous years we've had dudes clamoring to get in.

I think maybe fantasy football interest across society peaked somewhere around 8-10 years ago, when everyone was into it, and maybe overextended themselves into too many leagues, and now are looking to cut down some.

So my Uverse completely went down over the weekend (no internet or tv) and they won't be out until tomorrow. I'll attempt to do the draft on my phone, normally not a big deal but it being an auction will make this more difficult.

Alright, I've been trying this the last few years, with some leagues it works out, some it doesn't, but I created a persistent discord chat channel for SDMB dynasty leagues. Discord is a social messaging application that can be run right through a web browser and it's easy to get set up. So if you want to chat (voice or text) during the draft, you can use this channel. But this year I'm also going to leave the channel open throughout the year. I created seperate sub-channels for each of the SDMB leagues. Messages you send on these channels are persistent - when people log in they'll see everything that has been previously said on that channel. This gives us both a place to talk live during football sundays and to drop little messages whenever we want.

I'd encourage you guys to try it tonight at the draft. Even if you don't have a microphone setup, you could listen to others who have and keep up with the conversation via text.

This link should be all you need to get set up.

So, I'm just double checking here.

It's an auction draft and we have $200 for the entire team/bench? Or just 200 for the starters and bench is an additional 100?

I'm thinking it's the former, but I'm juuuuust making sure

Holy shit yahoo added a 15 second to nomination time. Merry Christmas.

(Options used to be 30/45/60)

Draft in 2 hours. Everyone except RNATB has been on the boards since I made the draft switch announcement. I did e-mail the league the same message I think, but I'll resend it to him just to be sure he got it.

Sorry you missed the draft RNATB. I hope the late switch wasn't what caused it. You had said it was okay with you earlier.

But apparently you're in good shape anyway because your team is on top of the power rankings, which is the projected total points scored from yahoo. Crazy.

Well, shit. I couldn't find the thread and I assumed the draft was going to move because the league page kept saying we didn't have enough teams. This is why I wanted to drop a couple of leagues this year, but I guess the autodraft worked okay.

Does anyone happen to want to play in the big league this year? We're up to 17 - I'd at least like to get one more to put us at 18 so we can run a head to head league normally. Draft is on Wednesday.

Looks like we got our 18th for the big league. No more needed unless we happen to get two people interested.

Does anyone happen to want to join the pick 'em and survival leagues? Not exactly fantasy, but I figured you guys might be interested and hadn't noticed.

Down 120+ points going into Monday night's games... out of players and still facing Zuerlein. Projected Yahoo scores is giving me a 1% chance at victory.

Eh, at one point in the third quarter on Sunday, Green Bay had <3% chance of victory. As Aaron Rodgers has shown, there's always a chance.

I was thinking next year we should think up some sort of change to this league to liven things up a bit, as it's been a bit stale the last few years. Maybe a superflex spot (QB/RB/WR/TE) which would make this a 2-QB league effectively? That's been more popular lately and it would seperate us from the other leagues on the SDMB.

Here are some rankings showing actual points you scored, potential points you could have scored if you started only the highest scorers on your team, and the percentage of actual / potential.

Potential is a measure of how well you assemble your team through the draft, trades, and waivers. Coach is a measure of how well you choose your starters. Actual is the combination of the two.

This is just the Week 1 stats. Week 2 to follow shortly, and then Week 3 either tonight or tomorrow. New weeks will be posted on Wednesdays to give yahoo time to make stat corrections.

SDMB All-Pro Fantasy Football - Week 1

Rnk Week 1.......Actual
01. Petey........183.20
02. Retro........153.05
03. Beef.........138.80
04. Munch........133.00
05. RNATB........131.45
06. Tcups........126.38
07. Omni.........112.05
08. Frosted.......79.55
09. Squirrel......78.15
10. Gaffer........65.20

Rnk Week 1....Potential
01. Petey........191.10
02. Retro........180.45
03. Beef.........166.00
04. RNATB........157.05
05. Munch........144.30
06. Tcups........137.58
07. Squirrel.....124.30
08. Omni.........123.95
09. Frosted......110.80
10. Gaffer........70.90

Rnk Week 1.......Coach.
01. Petey........96% A
02. Munch........92% A-
03. Gaffer.......92% A-
04. Tcups........92% A-
05. Omni.........90% A-
06. Retro........85% B
07. RNATB........84% B
08. Beef.........84% B
09. Frosted......72% C-
10. Squirrel.....63% D-

Nice to see Petey crushing it out of the gate to help offset his rough start in the dynasty league. If anyone would like their alias changed to something else, let me know. In order to keep the tables readable on a phone, I'd prefer to keep the names to 7 or 8 characters max.

The green and red numbers show your change in ranking for that table compared to the previous week. If you were 5th last week, and are 3rd this week, you would see a +2.

Note that Week 1 stats don't show season totals because there's no point, but the season 1 stats do exist; they're the same as your week 1 stats.

What does Coach mean? How is it evaluated?

It means what percentage of total points your team could've possibly put up given the optimal lineup vs how much you actually got based on who you picked to start. So if guys you chose not to start put up a ton of points, you get a poor coach grade, whereas if you've started most/all of the right guys you'd get a good coaching grade. It's a results-oriented measure of whether or not you put the right guys in your lineup.

Yeah, that'd be cool. I'm in another league that is 0.5 PPR for RB/WR but 1.0 for TE which gives that position a bit of a boost. Something to consider to even out the options if we go with the superflex. Otherwise there isn't much sense in playing anything there other than QB.
