At the risk of sounding heartless, better him than Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Hey, this is the Death Pool, where we root for people (even people we like!) to die.

Bracknell gets me my 5th straight year with >200 points. Go me!

Yes you did.

Well, a lot of serious points given out. Of the seventeen players who had her, only one, Captain Klutz, is new to points in this game. Registered at Last broke the 300 point mark, with eight of their picks having donated to the cause.

Wow! I can't believe I am still at the top. Though I fully expect that on December 30th someone (Happy?, CAMJAY?, I'm looking your way) will fly past me into first place. Is there a prize for the most time spent at the top without actually winning?

But don't forget, for however brief a time, you were in first place. Carol Channing gets you the Opening Kickoff Award this year.

I have never scored a single point. I think I've been playing steadily since 2013 except for one year when I missed the deadline (now I try to submit my list way early).

I'm usually not one to say, "I can't believe I don't have any points," but ... I can't believe I don't have any points. I went for old bastards right down the line. Bob Barker - Betty White - Mel Brooks - Carl Reiner - Bob Newhart - etc. Can't any of those arteries start closing up or something. Chrissakes.

Edit: even worse - I just realized I had the now deceased Peter Fonda as an alternate.

Wait for some previous winners to post, and steal their stuff.
Note: RT, who is ahead of me this year, also had what's her name who I think I listed first. You see some picks, Google them, and they are just too good to pass up.

I don't know, but if there were a prize for most time spent within five points of the lead without winning, I'd own that sucker. 300-296 for six and a half freakin' months. Still boggles my mind.

Paralympian Marieke Vervoort has died in Belgium, taking her own life at the age of 40. She suffered from a degenerative spinal disease so painful that sometimes it limited her to ten minutes of sleep a night.

And nothing of value was lost..

Although if confirmed it was not a pointless death, I had this guy on my list for ages, so if confirmed it will be one of the most happy points won.

Wait, I just found a quote saying he is/was 48.
BBC says he was born in 1971, and gives his original name. I have a birth date for him of July 28, 1971, but I can't remember what my source was.

Anyway, assuming the Beeb has it right, he'd be either 47 or 48. The latter agrees with your quote, and also the rule is if there's a question about a celeb's age, we go with the older age.

The real question is, is he really dead this time? Much as I'd love to claim the points, I'm all for waiting until his death appears to be a sure thing.

Unfortunately, it is Trump, so we still need confirmation...

I actually think in this case the military confirmed it to him, but I will let the judge determine if this is a confirmation.

Okay here's what I'm going to do. I'll get off work tomorrow sometime mid-afternoon. Assuming that nothing has been heard to the contrary, like a video of him alive with tomorrow's headlines, I'll go ahead and award the points for Baghdadi. I've actually already worked out the new points and rankings, and, you know what? We will have a new first and second place player.

IF he is dead.

Totally off topic, and I have no idea who or what started it, but if you're on Twitter, do a search for '#WaPoDeathNotices'.

Some examples:

Heinrich Himmler, passionate chicken farmer, dies unexpectedly at 44

Adolf Hitler, passionate community planner and dynamic public speaker, dies at 56.

Jeffrey Dahmer, connoisseur of human delicacies, dead at 34

Jefferson Davis, community organizer and cotton agriculturist dies at 81. He loved his countries.

And my favorite, thus far:

Ted Bundy, unconventional pickup artist, dies, shockingly, at 42

The problem, of course, is that if the military told him that they *think* the guy who blew himself to bits was al-Baghdadi, but they're no more than 70% sure really, you know Trump would still run with it. And at least publicly, the military wouldn't contradict him, so it might take days for their doubts to be leaked to the media.

And who knows how long it would be before ISIS said anything, one way or the other. When he was dead back in 2017, months went by before he wasn't dead anymore.

RTF, it sounds as if you don't want those points!

Oh, I want them. But having been through this in 2017, I only want them if they won't have to be retracted later.

But wait! It is only the 28th of October, not December! I had him on my list for a few years, but gave up on ever getting confirm-able points for him. Congratulations to those who stuck with him. (and to all others who are celebrating his death)

If it's true, then I will have earned my first-ever points in my three years of playing!
