So, not a pop song (according to Wiki), jazz, R&B, C&W, showtune or folk; sung by a male singer (apparently), from a kind of a love song that made the Top 40 charts 1970-1978.

What's left? Hymns? Instrumentals? Novelty songs? Reggae? World music?

DQ: Is the character one of the main characters in the song?

An example: in Mack the Knife there's a list of female victims of Mack. Those would NOT be considered main characters.
