What movie was this? (Danny Devito)

I vaguely remember a comic movie which I think I saw in the early 1990s starring Danny DeVito. I may, in fact probably do, remember the plot all wrong, but my recollection is that it went something like this: DeVito was the evil, or at least stupendously uncompassionate, head of a manufacturing plant in New England that was going broke, and he was happy to have it close on behalf of the stockholders, whose financial interests would be protected. But a sassy and beautiful female attorney had a plan for how the plant could be made profitable. He didn't want to hear anything about it, of course. Her plans ultimately prevailed, naturally.

I may have mangled the plot very very badly, but the one thing I distinctly recall was Devito's love of donuts (I think it was even specifically Krispy Kreme, I'm not sure). He frequently ate them, sang the praises of them, and offered them to others.

What movie was that? I've looked at a list of DeVito films and none seem to be ringing a bell.

You have a fair bit . It's not his plant( hence "other people's money" ), rather he's a corporate raider looking to loot it. And it is not at all insolvent, but rather flush with assets he can loot. What it is is a successful facility in a declining industry that will probably eventually become insolvent as it becomes obsolete. DeVito wants to loot it now for the benefit for himself and the shareholders before the value whittles away to nothing.

And he wins. In the postscript his perky romantic interest/enemy proposes a new use for the facility, but he only agrees to meet over it, he hasn't agreed to anything when the film ends.

Not too shabby of a flick. Gregory Pecks character is a stubborn fool who could have prevented or greatly delayed what happened.

Devitos “take the money” speech towards the end is quite convincing and he delivers it impeccably.
