This is probably Trump's solution for paying off the national debt.

Why would people/institutions/countries with interest-bearing bonds trade them in for negative interest bonds?

Probably. 70 trillion dollar debt. This supposedly saves 25 billion a year. So only 40 years

Rats are just extra miniature dogs, for the most part; clean, friendly, etc.

The idea that they're scheming comes from the stereotype that Jews rub their hands together when they think of cheating people out of their money, and since Jewish people often have a larger nose. Rats, when they stand on their hind legs, naturally have their hands up in the same "hand rubbing" sort of position and, of course, have a long snout.

Rats aren't evil, nor are Jews. Feel free to let us know who the good people were on both sides, once you can find them.

That would be a perfectly honorable thing to do.

So, no: that can't be it.

Since the Fed only loans to banks, would a negative prime rate amount to little more than a subsidy for banks (mostly the mega- kind)? I mean, they are not likely to pass the low/negative interest rates back to us, based on their behavior history.

I think your math needs work. By my (probably faulty) calculations, that $25 billion would pay off a $70 trillion debt about 2253AD...Captain Kirk can deliver the last payment...

But you have to add in the -50% interest rate, which would help get it paid down waaaay faster. I mean, with a rate like that, we would not even have to make any payments, we could just let the negative interest gradually erase the debt.

What about that guy, the doctor, who's in charge of HUD or something? Can't remember his name and too lazy to look it up. Or has he resigned? Or maybe he's not really black? I can't keep up.

So far as I understand, that is the history. Racist stereotyping is a thing that has existed on this planet and, I don't believe, that there's a benefit to society in forgetting about that or pretending otherwise.

I'll grant that Fiddle Peghead almost certainly had no intention of alluding to something racist by bringing up "rats", but it felt like a good moment for a reminder of how racism can hide in society, without people noticing it.

If you kept stirring, then eventually. Though, all it would mean is that you had a very strange hobby.

On the other hand, in a discussion with a person denying the plain reality that a march by neo-Nazis to protect statues built by the wives and daughters of members of the KKK is simply a blind defense of racism based on a partisan unwillingness to be honest with oneself, it seems fair - as said - to note how racism can be easily overlooked.

I would personally say that it's a worse thing to deny racism because it forces one to confront (possible) unfortunate truths, than to point out the occasional bit of disgraceful human history to remind us that we're flawed creatures who act irrationally in the name of our chosen identities on occasion.

The rest of the world sees us as a bunch of scared, racist misogynic religious assholes that don't care about anyone but ourselves. This is Donald Trumps persona. It is Donald Trump. This is what he has done. It is his legacy.

The 'good' is we are identifying those scared, racist misogynic religious assholes. We are going to have to let them step forward, and express their feelings. Then, we will see if there are more good people than bad in the USA.

Actually, the idea that they're dirty comes from their spending a lot of time in garbage and sewers and being linked to serious illnesses (you may have heard of a little epidemic called the Black Plague). Maybe Anglos consider them "scheming" and it's something that's got its origins in antisemitism, I'll take your word for it, but it's the first time I hear about it; dirty, that's in every culture that's met rats.

No, that's one thing you can't really blame him for. We've pretty much always thought that. Or at least since Kennedy died. Or sometime after then - maybe since Reagan? Or maybe since 1948 - that's when "Ugly American" was coined. But in any case, it was solidly cemented in the Bush era.

Lou Dobbs says The White House is a Great Place to Work!

Quote:
“At every level, on every floor, this White House is energized,” he said. “There’s sunshine beaming throughout the place, and on almost every face. It’s winner, and winning center, and our White House, our president, is at the top of his game.”
"Sunshine beaming throughout the place"????? I don't care where you work. If you describe it that way, something's wrong. People don't even describe Disney that way.

Lou Dobbs went off the rails years ago. I vaguely recall him being a fairly banal television presence ages ago and then suddenly he went all OMG IMMIGRANTS ARE GOING TO EAT OUR CHILDREN so naturally he loves Trump.

Did Trump really go off on light bulbs? Is there a video? This seems like it would be "Fake News", but with Trump it's something he might have actually said, being an expert on everything. Because I saw this this morning:

'I always look orange': Trump says energy-efficient light bulbs not a good look for president

Quote:
President Donald Trump on Thursday evening claimed that energy efficient light bulbs make him look orange, one in a series of bizarre claims about green energy and climate conservation in remarks to Republican House members in Baltimore.

"What's with the lightbulb?" Trump asked introducing one of several environmentally related rants in his more than hour long remarks. He described energy efficient light bulbs as "many times more expensive than that old, incandescent bulb that worked very well" and "the lights no good."

"The bulb that we're being forced to use, number one, to me, most importantly, I always look orange," he said, to laughs from the audience.
Does he not know he looks orange outside in the sunlight? Next up, banning all solar energy.

Trump's concern is not cost or efficiency of the bulbs, but "number one" they make him look orange? More like one more thing Obama to undo and piss off/troll people who care about reducing energy use.

I think he was trying to make a joke. Cause nothings funnier to Republicans than fucking over the environment for a buck.

Does he not know he looks orange outside in the sunlight? Next up, banning all solar energy.

Trump's concern is not cost or efficiency of the bulbs, but "number one" they make him look orange? More like one more thing Obama to undo and piss off/troll people who care about reducing energy use.
Well, the more bizarre thing is that the old incandescent bulbs that everyone seems to miss would make him look even more orange. That main complaint about the newer bulbs was the more bluish light they give off, and that they didn't have the "warmth" of the incandescents (which were typically at 3200K color temperature or lower.) Now, of course, you can get light bulbs in all sorts of color temperatures, incandescent or LED, but while I did find the first generation of CFLs annoying, the current generation of LEDs put out nice light to my eyes, especially the "soft white" (~3000K).

And that's way more thought that I should have given Trump's stupid joke.

Ah, the keen and witty humor that Donald Trump famously is known for.

Hard to tell by reading his comments. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump believes this on some level. He's all about his public image.

Maybe Trump should put some of those lightbulbs in a steak and try to drink it through a straw. That'll show those environmentalists.

Even the 3000K LEDs can have poor colour rendition, particularly in the red/orange part of the spectrum. CRI (colour rendition index) is the specification that tells you if an LED is providing proper full-spectrum light. Low CRI LEDs make you look green(ish), not orange. Sadly, it can be hard to figure out which bulbs have better CRI. Many manufacturers do not put that specification on the box.

That's exactly it. To Republicans, anything that benefits the environment (like LED light bulbs and paper straws) is the butt of a joke. Har har.

And to Trump, environmental regulations are associated with Obama, and are therefore anathema. If Obama had been a duck hunter Trump would have all wetlands declared National Monuments.

Well naturally, if you think the sun shines out of Trump's ass, you're going to perceive "sunshine beaming throughout the place" wherever Trump is showing his ass. And is there anywhere he doesn't?
