What does Sex smell like?

I'm 18 and I am not ashamed to say that I have not gone that far with any girls...kissing, rubbing and all that stuff but no sex. I keep hearing people talking about the smell of sex and sex in the air. So I have a few questions regarding that;
1. Where does this smell come from?
2. What does it smell like? (Be as descriptive as possible)

Eventhough I have not smelled sex I would say it is a combo of vaginal fluid and sweat...but I don't know.

And semen...don't forget semen. Semen is quite pungent, and old semen is really, really rank.

The total effect is unmistakable, but I don't know if I can describe it. It smells a bit like mushrooms, a bit like scallops, and a bit like sweat. It's pungent and earthy and, well, biological-smelling.

You'll know it when you smell it. It's sort of a musky, meaty smell.

Sin. It smells like sin. Dirty, musky sin.
The smell of which makes the baby jeebus cry.

Or apple pie. Depends on the participants.

If your man juice is that stinky you might want to think about changing your diet or smoking-drinking habits.

Possibly TMI follows in second paragraph. Avert your eyes if you are sensitive/easily incensed by things you'd rather not hear about.

I believe that at least some references to the "smell of sex in the air" are actually figurative and not literal. The actual "aroma" can vary quite a bit, depending on the hygeine of the involved parties.

With TW, it was something like fish that had just started to cross the line between "fresh" and "better pitch that". YMMV

Throw some fish in a bucket of very diluted bleach. Salmon probably work best.

In my experience, with the current SO, it's sort of a warm, organic, fresh-sweat kind of smell, not at all unpleasant. YMMV, I'm sure.

Lick your hand. Let it dry a little. That very pungent smell where you licked? That is exactly (only much weaker) what "sex" smells like.

It may help if your hand is a little sweaty and if you are in a warm place.

Pretty much what everybody else says. An old mukker of mine used to say, "There's only two things that smell like fish - and one of them's fish."

But I think he slept with some scraggy girls...

Well, the sound of having sex with a dead body is punching your fist into a jar of old mayonnaise. I'm sure there's a smell associated with that, too.

Argh... women only smell like fish when they have a particular vaginal infection: bacterial vaginosis.

So if you're with one who has that smell, suggest that she see her gynocologist, because it can't be cleared up by the stuff in the store.

Ok. Slight hijack. What gives semen its characteristic smell?

Doesn't the smell of sex depend on what kind of sex you're having and with whom? I can think of lots of possibilities, each with its own array of aromas.

On a side note, one of the security guards in my old college dorm used to use his unfailing ability to smell the scent of lovin' to root out females who had stayed in the dorm past the "Midnight Curfew" that the campus enforced on co-ed visitation.
I'd like to say I went to college in the 60s or something, but this was at a black public university in the south in the late 90's.

Possibly TMI:

When Mrs. Furd is in the mood, I can smell it on her breath. More than anything else, her breath smells like salami.

As for the smell of sex itself, the descriptions above are pretty much right. It does sort of depend on the person and the conditions.

Masturbate, and you'll have half the smell of sex in your hand (or wherever you deposit it). Women's smells vary lots, it seems. Some don't have a noticeable odor at all--even when my nose is as close as it can get, but then I don't have a particularly sensitive sniffer. I'm usually a bit disappointed if I don't smell something, because that contributes quite a lot to the excitement and atmosphere.

I'd say that most women I've been with have a very attractive odor.
Trying to describe that general smell in detail, I'd say it's kind of a mix of spicy (like perfume dripped on a stick of cinnamon), a teensy bit sour (a citrus tinge, like dilute tangerines), muskiness (open up a closet in the basement that hasn't been opened in years, or maybe take the top off a plastic garbage can that doesn't have any garbage in it), and a little bit of sharpness, almost bitterness (like asparagus or coffee: two of my favorite tastes). Throw in some almonds and a slightly overripe banana, and you're getting pretty close to the wonderful complexity and fullness of the aroma.

Of course it varies hugely from woman to woman and even by time of the month for each woman. Only a very small percentage of women, in my experience, have had a smell that I would characterize as too strong or a bit objectionable.

Now, having suggested how you might understand the characteristic odors of each gender, I will complicate the issue yet further, because the overall smell of 'sex', created by mixing those two odors together, is greater--or at least qualitatively different--from the sum of its parts. Maybe the process of mixing changes things, or there's some fermentation going on, or saliva and sweat become significant contributors, or whatever. So it's going to be somewhat different from what you might expect. Still, knowing what the individual smells are may help you to anticipate the end result.

I think the smell of sex always differs depending on the people involved, not only because of the level of hygiene that may differ, but also body chemistry in general. Since you're a virgin, but have done some kissing and bumping and rubbing, then you may have already learned that each different person you made out with has their own distinctive aroma. If you'd had sex with each of those people, you'd have learned that although your body chemistry is what it is and you will always smell like you smell (barring major dietary and/or hygiene changes), the combination of your smell with that of your partner's equals a new scent. So I think it's extremely difficult to define in detail just one time.

That said, I once had a lover who believed that two different smells reminded him of the smell of sex: the smell of a chlorine pool and/or the smell of freshly mown grass. Once he said that to me, I can't drive or walk by someone mowing the grass without thinking about sex. (Thanks, Scott, wherever you are! Can't really go swimming at a pool without thinking dirty thoughts either.)

I've never experienced the stereotypical "fish" smell - lucky me.

The smell varies from episode to episode, and, for me, at least, smells are a big turn-on (I have a very sensitive sense of smell, though). The smell (and taste) depends on the diet and general health of the participants, from what I can gather.

I was involved in some group activity once and the smell lingered in the air for hours after the festivities were over.

Stuff like spermine, spermidine, pyrimidine with a bit of putrescene.

Also trimethylamine content in vaginal secretion and its relation to bacterial vaginosis. btw trimethylamine smells like fish.

I would have liked to reply to you privately but it seems I can't.

That offends me, and I think it's an unfair generalization. Some people have done bad things in the name of God, and some people have done wonderful things in His name. I would say the good far outweigh the bad.

To say that anyone who believes in God is bad is just ignorant.

Sex smell

Sex has a very powerful effect on the human body. The skin heats and expands, the sweat from sex differs from sports and hard work. There s a strong endocrine release in the blood and this contributes to the smell. The pheramone release is also amplified because of sex. These smells remain on the sheets and pillow cases. There seems to be a change in the smell of people's hair during sex especially girls , maybe because they have so much of it compared to guys, I have never known these smells to be anything other than intoxicating, it's musky, acidic, salty from the sweat, and whatever cologne or perfumes are brought into play, I always loved the smell of the sweat from a girls body. Apart from taking a shower the smell from the dried fluids will remain on the skin long into the next day and, not to get too graphic, but you can still smell and taste it if you lick your lips. This has a powerful effect on your memory especially if you are in love. Few people ever really study the physiology of sex and it's emotional and spiritual effects . When you see a guy and a girl deeply in love it makes you happy because of it. Holidays exist for this very reason, love exists in people and despite the myriad problems in this short life, holidays hopefully strengthen and uplift .

Smells like teen spirit.

Sex does have a particular smell, as the OP may experience for himself some day. (Maybe he has by now?) But I am reminded of a counter girl named Cathy at the Dunkin' Donuts I worked at in West Texas straight out of high school in the 1970s. I was the night baker, and around 5am, Cathy came into the back after having filled a to-go order for some lady to announce, "God, that lady smelled like she's been having sex all night." That may not seem so funny reading it now, but it floored us with a laughing fit at the time.

It contains a mild alkali to counteract any residual uric acid in the male urethra, so as not to give your lady friend any discomforts. (See how considerate we are?)

As you age, your sense of smell and the frequency of sex often both decrease.

To test if there is a casual relationship, I’m attempting to negotiate a greatly increased rate of sex and see if that helps

There's a book, Everybody Lies, by Davidovich. He analyzes what people ask Google in private. Among other fun facts - the number one question/insecurity for men (obviously) is "Is my penis too small?" The number one insecurity question for women is "why does my vagina smell?"

Also, whoever mentioned licking your hand and smelling that as an example... ? Raise your (damp) hands if you just tried it, too.
