An Edsel in poor condition.

A 60s vintage Mercedes 230SL in gold. Not sure why anybody thought that was a good color.

Yesterday - I was debating between the pale yellow early 70's Lincoln Continental & the F E Red Jag F-type...until I saw a red w/ black racing stripe Viper. Rare & cool!

Today was a VW SUV that was colored a cross between Gulden's mustard & pea soup; ugliest solid color I've ever seen on a car.

Forgot to mention, last week I saw a brand new, as in in-the-showroom new MG Hector. I was floored because I didn't realize they were still in the car market for decades.

A house opposite my parents has a restored Morris Minor Traveller (like this one with the wood frame) parked outside. I haven't seen one of those for a while.

Thanks to a tenuous connection with the Traveller I'm going to shoehorn in my pictures of an Adams Probe 16 (front and rear) that I saw a few months ago, even though it was in a museum. (I've only just uploaded my pics). The connection is that apparently the Probe 16 has a wooden chassis. Only three were made and it sounds as though only two of them still exist as known cars (one might be a wreck somewhere in California). This one was in the lobby of the Design Museum in Kensington as part of a Stanley Kubrick exhibition - it's the car used in A Clockwork Orange.

Peering through the window it appeared to have over 19,000 miles on the clock, which is an impressive number for such a rare and impractical car, even though it's had 50-odd years to do them in.

A Toyota fire truck like this one

Actually, I may have seen that 1991 Toyota Hiace 4WD fire truck, since I saw it today in Seattle. Only, the one I saw had gold Japanese lettering on the side.

Though I didn't see it in person, I ended up in a long conversation about the Reliant Scimitar that makes me want to find and view one in person instead of just online.

I saw one of the new McLarens at the weekend - I think it was the 720s:

Several this weekend. The first was an Aston Martin Vantage on the drive down to the cape. Next was a Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird but that doesn't really count since I saw the same car last year. Then a Corvair, not fully restored but it looked like a fun car to drive around Provincetown on a Saturday night.

A '73 or so Ford Pinto wagon, similar to one I had way back when. I quess they haven't all exploded in a massive fireball after all.

I forgot the BEAUTIFUL Dodge Powerwagon from the 60's, in brilliant red, with a huge American flag (for Labor Day?) on the back, at the beach.

I live very close to the annual Labor Day weekend collector car auction in Auburn In. Saw a few nice ones driving around this weekend. Best one was a very nice 65 GTO hardtop. Gold with Cragar SS wheels. Not stock but period correct. Also very nice was a “restified” 66 or 67 Chevelle that sounded really badass. Another good one was an all black SS Camaro, likely a 70. Didn’get too good a look, it was driving the other way down a two lane highway but from what I saw it was very nice looking.
In the past I used to see some of the older stuff, Duesenbergs, Cords, Auburn’s, stuff like that driving around but haven’t seen them so much the last few years. Maybe getting too valuable to risk on public roads.

The weather this week is perfect for open motoring, so I got the Spitfire out of storage and put the Bolt in it's place for a bit.

It feels like Bike Week at Daytona by my house. A whole lot of testing going on by a whole lotta marques. I think the cops have caught on though; they started prowling around last night. Easily identified were the Honda CBR300R, Suzuki GSX-R600 and a GSX-R750. There was an old Triumph too, but I didn't recognize the model. I need to see some cars now.

A banner day for me yesterday. The weather in Edmonton was lovely and within minutes of each other I saw an orange Bricklin SV-1 and a Huracan Spyder in orange. Orange cars are cool.

Not me, but one of my students saw and snapped a picture of a lovely Pantera at a gas station yesterday. I would love to have one of those, but they're just a bit outside my budget

Coming home from the store today, Mrs R and I saw a Panhard PL17 buzzing along a couple cars ahead of us. Adorable little thing.

They were built from 1959 to 1964, and have an air-cooled twin of maybe 42 horsepower driving the front wheels. They're very light; there's a lot of aluminum in the body.

My dad was friendly with the Briklins; that never got me a car (or even a ride in one), though.

As for me, I saw a Bentley Bentayga SUV driving down the road today.

Checking with friends who work at Castrol Raceway. I'm curious if it ever shows up for track days up there.

In stop-and-go traffic yesterday I pull up behind a stopped minivan. Traffic is at a standstill and I noticed the minivan has a BMW logo on it.

“BMW now makes a minivan?”, I ask myself.

Introducing the new BMW X7. They call it their luxury SUV. From web pics it looks like a large SUV.

But IRL, from behind it, it screams minivan.

A Kia Telluride - they were just introduced in February and although I've probably seen one before I never really noticed it until now. Meh, uninspiring but not offensive styling. It's a bit too boxy for my tastes but probably practical if you need a bigger SUV.

No idea, but I'd love to hear that thing spool up and rage! When they did Race the Base here a few years ago it was automotive nirvana. Nothing like watching an Enzo race an F-18 in a mile race.

Was in traffic behind a Porsche Cayman today. I was amazed that I could look thru the back window & see the entire circle of the air vent of the dashboard; not used to rear glass that low.

I sent the picture to my friend King of Citroens, and (of course) he knew the owner. Said the car was bought by Grandpa back in the Sixties, and has been passed down father-to-son.

Earlier today the white Ford Model T pickup drove by. About 20 minutes ago, I saw a dark blue (?) Ford Model A coupé that I've seen around here before. Today in Bellingham I saw a derelict Ford Edsel station wagon.

I saw two Alfa Romeo Giulias in a row in stop and go traffic. I don't think they were together, but we're seeing enough of them around here now that they were together by chance.

And on Sunday I saw an AMC freaking Matador Coupe! I haven't seen one of those in ages.

Found myself driving behind a super clean late 40s Plymouth sedan yesterday.

And over the weekend I was at a park, and in the lot there were maybe 20 Fieros. Must've been a club outing. It was fun to see the wide variety from stock to super modded.

Yeah, those are hideous. It seems lately I've been seeing a lot of earlier flat-top wagons from the 70s - some in surprisingly clean condition.

I bought an Alfa Romeo Giulia about a month ago. Last night I went to a trivia tournament at a local bar/restaurant that was also holding a "supercar show" the same night, and they invited me to exhibit in the show since there was already another Giulia there (a Quadrifoglio, mine is a humbler Ti Lusso). It was the first time I had been next to another Giulia on the road; otherwise, I had only seen a couple passing the other way.

Mine is more interesting to me than the other because of the multispoke wheels; I love the five-hole alloys on the Ti Sports and Quads but they're relatively common.

On my way to work this morning on my first day back from vacation I saw a first generation Mustang. Honestly I usually don't find old Mustangs all that interesting; they're not all that uncommon and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they're the world's most restored car. But this one had an old blue California license plate and the paint, while not terrible, was somewhat faded. That makes me wonder if this car was in fact an unrestored survivor. Now that would be interesting.

While on vacation I saw several Citroen 2CVs and original Minis. Maybe those aren't that unusual to someone who lives in Europe, but they were interesting to me since to almost never see them in the US.

It's been a while since I've seen one of these, an Alfa Romeo Spider. It was red (so, the right color), and very clean. Looking it up later, the one I saw was a Series 2, approx 1970-1982.

This morning I saw a first generation (1983-86 IIRC) Toyota Camry in remarkably good condition. The second generation ones are still fairly common on the road here, but I can't remember the last time I saw a first gen one. Like the Accord from the same era I mentioned a few pages back, this Camry was probably smaller than the current Corolla.

Don't see too many cars day to day. Rarely anything special.

BUT. I'm going to a 'Hot Rod Hill Climb' tonight, and may see some of it on Saturday. A lucky coincidence, just visiting a friend, and it's going on.

Bring the entire family to relive the 1950s fun—hot rods, live music, excellent food, 24 hour gaming, all to the sound of uncapped vintage motors set in beautiful mountain scenery in a historic gold mining town.

Should be fun.

While out and about today I saw not one, but two classic air-cooled Porsche 911s. But the most interesting car I saw was an Audi R8, pulling into the Trader Joe's parking lot as I was leaving.

A red and white Studebaker Daytona. I know nothing about cars so have no idea what year. But it had no draft windows.
