Beckdawrek is a bad, bad, bad Nana! (The big birthday weekend!)

Granddaughter turned 6 today. Her big birthday bash was Saturday. 12 squealing 5 and 6 yos.
Nana was invited. Nope.
I went Shopping for her Saturday morning. She had 2 wishes for her 6th. An iPhone of her very own and a Siamese cat just like Nanas. Uh-oh.
The parents purchased the phone. Thank god I didn't have to make THAT decision.
I was warned about the cat. "DO NOT get her a live cat! Siamese or otherwise." Son-of-a-wrek swore an oath to kill any cat brought to his house. (He's really not that mean, he was just trying to scare me).
I wouldn't ever give a live animal as a gift, anyway. For a brief minute I thought I might just do it. Then I figured I end up with a permanent new house guest. The residing Siamese might take umbrage. So I quickly got outta that daydream.
I got her a journal kit and a stuffed Siamese cat. I drove by before the party to take her gift. I felt bad, bad, bad. She just knew I was bringing her a kitten. That and she already had her iPhone taken away. She hit her sister. No more phone for 24 hours. DIL was way too pleased with her new handle on discipline. Poor kid.
I told granddaughter someday she could choose her own pets. She just had to grow up, graduate college, get a job and buy/adopt her own cat. She looked downhearted. I told her I knew a secret way to get what she wanted. She was all ears. I said to keep her stuff picked up, help with baby sister. Take good care of her dog. And beg. And beg. And beg. And keep begging. She said Mom won't do it. I said "girl you're so right!", I told her to only beg Daddy. When they were alone. And dont let up. Ever.
Today I get a text message from Son-of-a-wrek. He wanted to know where I got them damn cats. And what do they cost.
Uh-oh!
Who knew my secret method would work so well. And so fast.
Oh, and I got my first text from a newly 6yo granddaughter. It said, and I quote "I love Nana"

That's the purpose of grandparents - spoil the kids; hype 'em up on sugar...& then give 'em back.

More texts from Son-of-a-wrek. He wanted to know the breeders name and number. He asked what did I pay for them.
I told him.
One text back, it said, "Gulp"
I told him I know a secret way to get what you want.
He was all ears.

ETA: I didn't have the heart to break it to him that he's gonna have buy 2.

Bekkers, you do cat rescue work. Or, at least you DID up until the Cat From Hell introduced you to your best friend, The Cheerful State Trooper.

Tell Son-of-Wrek and Lil Wrekker that you shall keep an eye out for a rescue Siamese kitten.

Of course, this could take years.

Granddaughter wants a Siamese cat "just like Nanas" Who am I to argue with such flattering logic?
Seriously, I plan to look about for a Siamese type cat, for her.

If either set of grandparents tried to gift my child with a critter, said critter would have been immediately rehomed with the offending grandparent. It's one thing to give a toddler a drum...

My daughter describes herself as "that" aunt.

She has gifted nieces and nephews with all matters of noisy toys, including elextronic things that bleep and boop. She didn't just give A drum: she gave a niece a complete, kid-sized drum KIT.

My grandson just had a birthday. "That" aunt gave him a toy called a ro-BUTT. You pull his finger, he farts.

That reminds me, I meant to ask this earlier, how long is umbrage good for? If I keep it in a cool, dry place, away from open flame or other heat and out of direct sunlight, will it stay good for a few years if stored? Can I stock pile it for the future when the dorklings start taking it from me as payment for the AWESOMEST presents EVER!!! I'm going to give the grandkids?

DIL wanted to visit the cats while she was at my house. I broke out the "freshly, homemade good-ist treats" ever. They flew down the stairs, leaving the dead moth they had been staring at most of the afternoon. Bear did his 2 best tricks before pitching a hissy-fit about his treat not being 'right'
Meeko allowed a few seconds of petting. And...like smoke they vaporized.
She was less than impressed. I'm ashamed to say they have no manners or socialization. It can't be helped, I don't have much socialization either.
But DIL's, at least, entertaining the idea.
I may get lots of texts from granddaughter saying: "I love Nana"

But for some reason I have an odd premonition that this is gonna bite me in the butt.

Our Siamese seems to be different then the standard. She is completely silent and quite affectionate if you let her. I don't encourage it because she is a real "kneader" with those sharp claws.

Meeko is a 'kneader', I have spots on my thigh she has put tiny holes in. If I wear a certain pair of pj pants she gets to me fast. Bear only shows affection by blinkie eyes. Or he'll come and sit close to me on the arm of my chair. Unless it's cold. Then I have Velcro cats. I'm their personal 'warming' hooman.

Well, big news bump. The Junior-Wrek family is going to see kittens at the breeders house this weekend. Granddaughter is ecstatic. Son-of-a-wrek is happy-ish. DIL is decidedly un...un..something about it. I asked her did she dislike cats. She relayed that her favorite pet as a kid was a tuxedo cat. So I have high hopes this will be successful. Yay!! Baby kitties!!

no, see beck you did it wrong .. what you were supposed to do is buy them and keep them hidden and on the day of the birthday put them in a cute basket wrapped and hand it to her in a room full of relatives

my mom did this for my step sister after my dad's new wife said no to her getting guinea pigs

it was a response to dad and stepmom giving me a kitten she didn't want to me to have mom never went inside she just honked the horn for me to come outside and handed me a big wrapped basket and had a card from me and my 2 brothers as she "forgot" to buy a present with us (grandma says that was intentional) she opened it with about 30 relatives on both sides of the family..... stepmoms side of the family thought it was nice and adorable "isnt it ice your ex bought her a present? " my relatives knew better they knew my mom could be the nicest bitch in the world when she wanted to get back at you ......

Funny thing was it was a male and female pair.....lets just say by the time they sent them to their real dads they had almost a dozen.... mom won that one ..... my stepsister didnt realize the subtext until grandma told her some things she asked about before grandma passed

Bear bit me last night. I was trying to keep him from stealing Meekos treat. And I moved his around alittle, he nipped my thumb. Didn't break the skin. Oh!, He knew immediately he had done a bad thing. Flew up to the beam. I left his treat on his plate and Meeko stole them. Serves him right. Bad, bad, bad kitty!
I'm thinking I might recommend the Jr.-wrekkers choose a less snooty, finicky breed.
I'd hate granddaughters first cat experiences be horrible.

The trip to the breeder is still on. She has kittens and some on the way but they are spoken for, apparently. I talked the Son-of-a-wrek and DIL about maybe setting their sights on a low key kitten of dubious parentage. And they like the sound of 'cheaper', I've called around to a couple of shelters in neighboring counties. Lots of cats, less kittens. But there are some. The have a 4yo dachshund. High energy and crazy. I think an older cat might find that unnerving. A kitten, not newborn, but young should suit.
Yay! Nana to the rescue!
Granddaughter had her 1st day of school today. She told me it was awful. But she got to tell the class she was getting new kitten. She said that was the only good part.

Ugh! Math.
So...update:
Of course the Siamese kittens were adorable. Granddaughter wanted one NOW! They were all spoken for and deposits paid.
The Breeder has a pregnant cat, due in 10 days or so. They put a deposit on a male kitten. Just one. I'm concerned about that. Siamese do better in pairs. Not that mine do. But, so they say.
Got a text from Granddaughter on her iPhone: "Nana is best"
.
Oh, yes. Steve I bought my lottery ticket. Fingers crossed!

Big, update.
Grand-kitty was born yesterday with no complications. I was surprised to find out my Cats have the same parentage. So are they siblings or cousins or Whatever?
Granddaughter is flipped the eff out. It will come with an animal-other-than-cat type name. But, of course, since I'm the cool Nana she wants to name it after my Cat. I told her not to do that. Since I may end up with it (oops).
I'm personally hoping for Mouse or Fish.
She has to wait 5 weeks to get it. Son-of-a-wrek said "good!" He's gotta scrape up the rest of the price. I'm waiting on the big hit-up for me to fork it over. It's coming.
Yay! Grand-kitty!!

Wait a minute.

The breeder is going to let them take a 5 week old kitten?

Too soon! and I am now pretty dubious about the breeder.

No. She will get to visit at that time. The breeder decides when they go. I got mine at 7weeks. I was considered an experienced cat person. They will not be. She may keep the baby longer.

At the risk of y'all thinking I'm certifiable, well I am kinda crazy. My cats came and sat by me on the arms of the chair. One on each side. I started talking to them, they seem to enjoy that. Bear was fwipping his tail. Meeko was chewing a toe nail. I got to my talk-to-the-baby voice and was telling them about the "adorable widdle kitty that was just borned' and "weren't they excited that they might get to meet him" Bear said "meow" that sounded just like "no", no surprise there. He often does that. Meeko made a sound I've never heard from a cat, it was a deep hiss. It sounded just like she said "shit". I swear to god. I was so shocked. I just sat there thinking. This can't really be. Cats can't speak. They've heard me countless times using those words, directed at them. Maybe they are learning words. Am I losing my mind?
Can't wait to tell granddaughter the Siamese have a new trick.
After I get let out the funny farm, I'll post what new words they've learned.

Please be careful. Remember, all DIL has to do is just miss a call one time. . .

Here's an idea she may support (DO check with her first!). Tell Granddaughter that you will teach her how to care for a kitten, then put her in charge of your litter boxes for a month. At the end of the month if she has been faithful and true to this chore Mommy may reconsider.

Granddaughter is for sure, a pet person. She doesn't have a problem poopy scooping the back yard for the little dog they have. He's a crazy dog, so there's always a mess associated with him. She won't have a problem taking care of the kitten. I think the problem is gonna be the inability to leave the kitten be for her and her younger sister. When they are at my house they try like crazy to get my cats down to play. We all know that's not how cats work. I spent some amount of time explaining this to them. It's sinking in to the oldest. Especially as my male Bear has taken a fancy to her. The baby girl is gonna be a problem, I'm afraid. We'll see.

Bump-date:
The Wrek, Jr's went and visited the new baby kitten, this past weekend. And as expected it was adorable and the 'sweetist' kitten EVER. I know the breeder, she always pre-names her babies. This one has a long pedigree name no one seemed to remember but it has 'Koko' in it, so naturally his call name will be 'Monkey'. Ummm? What?
Granddaughter is very, VERY excited. Younger sister is not happy with the situation. She told me 'cats are not nice and they scratch you'
I asked her did she want a kitten of her own, before she could answer Mom interjected, "NO!"
Looks like Nana may have to spend some extra time with baby Granddaughter. Seems she needs a lesson or 2, in how to get what you want.
