Help me buy an inflatable yak

Googling for one only turns up inflatable kayaks.

Very frustrating.

Need NOT be life-sized, toddler sized preferred.

Does it absolutely have to be a yak? Try longhorn instead? Or Ox

A quick search turns up various inflatable animals, but no yaks among them, and several stuffed plush yak toys, but none of them inflatable.

You might have to go with Kearsen's or davidm's suggestions and lie to your kid that it's a yak.

Or glue hair on it to customize your own yak.

Or put a balloon inside a plush stuffed yak.

Did you run this by the mods first?

(Or am I wrong to interpret the thread title as a request for financial assistance?)

Show a little sympathy for somebody who's down on their luck and can't afford to pay for the necessities like food, shelter, and inflatable yaks.

I'd be broke if I donated money to everybody who wants an inflatable yak. Knowing when to draw the line and say "no" can be a real emotional experience.

If you google custom inflatables you get lots of responses but they appear to mostly cater to businesses (promotional items) and are probably expensive.

I can't believe you all are trying to put a price on a man's happiness.

He could have asked for a goat, or a sheep. But, no. He dared to dream. He reached for the yak.

I, for one, hope he finds his heart's desire.

Qadgop, are you planning to ask your dad for one?
Quote:
As a friend to the children commend me the Yak.
You will find it exactly the thing:
It will carry and fetch, you can ride on its back,
Or lead it about with a string. [I suppose this would be especially true for the inflatable kind.]

The Tartar who dwells on the plains of Thibet
(A desolate region of snow)
Has for centuries made it a nursery pet,
And surely the Tartar should know!

Then tell your papa where the Yak can be got,
And if he is awfully rich
He will buy you the creature—or else he will not.
(I cannot be positive which.)

Seriously though, the most practical suggestion is CalMeacham's to find a suitable version of a different bovine and custom yak-ify it. A bull or buffalo inflatable is probably the best starting point.

Alibaba used to sell one but they are out of stock. They still offer a few regular yak costumes (min. purchase 1). I am quite surprised those are not more common.

This place made a yak and dog thing.

Surprised that googling 'faux yak fur' provided so many results. But I actually just posted to say faux yak.

I might have an inflatable wildebeest in storage. Would that bee close enough? I haven't needed it since I got married.
(None of that's true, just ungulate humor.)

You can make your own much better. Just be careful when you are skinning the yak not to make any holes or deep cuts in the hide. Be careful scraping the hide too. Then you can either sew it shut while still green and let it dry in the sun to cure or just make a bull boat instead of an inflatable.

Here are the instructions for the bull boat, but you should already know how.

If you can't find one and have to make it, you've identified your retirement job. I do hope you'll kayak with the yak, though. "Kayak" is a lovely base for a palindrome.

Hey, if you can canoe with a cebu (or three of them), you can kayak with a yak.

There is a store nearby that sells inflatable sheep. They are, um, anatomically correct and have an electrical plug. I am not sure which emoji most accurately conveys my emotional reaction to this.

Sometimes I think the SDMB is the greatest thing on the Internet, and sometimes I wish I had never stumbled across it. This is definitely one of those times.

On a related note, on the Superman radio show back in the 30s it was revealed that the secret greeting to find out if someone was a member of the Ku Klux Klan was to ask "do you know a Mr. Ayak?" AYAK stands for Are You a Klansman. The proper reply was "I know a Mr. Akai", where AKAI stands for A Klansman Am I.

Now I want to travel back thru time and be greeted by a Klansman, so I can reply "Is he inflatable?"

Regards,
Mr. IHI

Aren't all yaks, by definition, inflatable? Of course after a certain point you've got quite a mess to clean up.

And of course, by "help me buy", I mean "help me find this item so I can buy it". I've never crowdsourced anything and don't plan to.

Uncommon knowledge I happened to pick up from some TV-program long ago: a yak is by definition male. The female counterpart is a dre.

Again going by memory I would say it was the size of a 4 year old. If your google-fu is strong maybe adding R&S into the search somehow may get you some results.

It seems that you may be suffering from (as mentioned on one of those balloons) Silly Yak Disease.

BTW, in case the need comes up, I have sourced an inflatable AK and an inflatable K.

There are a number of balloons with yaks upon them listed on Cafe Press.

ETA: There are also a number of t-shirts and so on. Here's one from Amazon.
