I couldn't post on Saturday, but that day I passed a car show and saw a Model T Ford.

Saw a regular pickup truck driving on train tracks. Think they're called Hi-Railers? Always saw these in movies and tv, but never for real.

Last night I saw a Nissan GT-R, gold in color; except it looked like plastic painted gold, like the fancy plastic 'silverwear' you can get for parties. Really brought down the car IMO.

On sat I while I was driving a brand new Dodge Charger (), I heard something throaty in traffic. Looking all around, I finally saw it. Definitely right hand drive older car. I'm thinking a Nissan Skyline.

High-rail, hi-rail, road-rail are all generic terms, Hy-Rail appears to be a specific manufacturer. There are many others. I see a variety of RR and electrical trucks with them on the tracks around here.

A Slingshot pulled up next to me at a stoplight on the way home last night. Dude was giving his 12? year old son a ride. Looked like fun on a hot summer day.

My nieghbour down the street just bought a new Boxster in my favourite colour of blue. If it were a Cayman S instead I'd call it my affordable(In that I could concievably buy one) dream car. Looks like this but with black wheels.

Miami Blue is what Porsche calls it.

Forgot to post this at the time, and I don't know if it qualifies as "interesting" per se, but: I saw a Ford Pinto a few weeks back. It looked to be in excellent condition and had a much snazzier paint job than Ford ever provided. It was a car or two ahead of us at a traffic light.

And I can't remember whether it was in the DC metro area, or while we were on vacation in Vermont.

My family actually owned *two* Pintos. One, my parents bought for my two oldest brothers to share. First manual-transmission car I'd ever seen. The second, my second-oldest brother actually won in a raffle. He got a wagon vs the hatchback. I think that one got totalled (not rear-ended, fortunately!!). I don't recall what happened to the first one - sold at some point, I guess, well before I was of driving age.

The Chrysler show is in town. Today I saw 3 1957-8 Furys, 4 1st-generation Road Runners, a late ‘70s Charger Daytona (which is essentially a badge-engineered Córdoba), and a early-mid ‘70s Dart GT hopped up with go-fast parts.

Gas is going to be very expensive this weekend with all of the single-digit MPG Mopars stooging around town.

Quite a few today:
  • A Lotus Elise in the parking lot at work. I usually see them on the highway or from a distance, but in person they are tiny and super low to the ground
  • A 1st generation Chevy Chevelle in mint blue, maybe a 65? Gorgeous car, looked amazing cruising along on the highway
  • Some sort of roadster, probably British, in red. Looked to be in great shape, probably from the 70s

A beautifully restored Porsche Speedster. I'd say original but the paint job was too shiny to be original. The car was just lovely.

A fourth generation green Corolla. So ~early 80s. Looked not too bad except ...

It was moving slowly down the road with its blinkers on and a bunch of cars backed up behind it.

A Ferrari Lusso on the highway; it looks, um, interesting from the back.

And a Model T driving on the NH backroads up in hills.

One of my neighbours has a red 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk.II. I went over to look at it today, and it's for sale. $5,200.

I finally figured out this car was a 90s era Mazda RX7, but it had very weird aftermarket tail light covers, I suspect to protect easily scratched plastic housing.

Another one I forgot to mention at the time: a VW Beetle, which doesn't sound that unusual..... except when it's being held up by a concrete gorilla .

I saw two on my walk yesterday. The first was a VW bus/pick up truck, have not seen one of the in a long time. The second one was an MGB, kind of sad shape but driven a lot.

A beautiful 1935 Lagonda LG45, looking like it had escaped from a Tintin book. Wasn't even at a car show, it was at on display in the window at a truck rental place.

eta If you peek in the left window behind the gardening van on Google Maps and zooom, you can just make it out.

Some guy in my neighborhood has a DeLorean that he drives in the summer. I followed him into the neighborhood this evening - I have always liked those and having one drive around on a regular basis is pretty cool...

Over the weekend I saw a full-sized RV towing a 4-door Silverado, with a golf cart in the pickup bed.

& I saw this early-60's Econoline pickup w/ Road Runner fade paint job; for sale, too.

That pickup is far out, man.

Just now I saw a Vanderhall Venice in the parking lot where I work. I'd never heard of them before. This one was black. It's a pretty cool looking vehicle.

The 2018 Ford EcoSport small crossover SUV. I actually saw two today, first I've ever seen. Didn't even know the model was introduced to the US market this year.

A late 70s Olds 88 with a collector plate. Wow, who would collect that? This was era of shrinking the big cars of the past down to expensive gasoline sizes and they weren't known for quality. Surprised me to see it - though it's not a particularly interesting car.

While heading to Starbuck's, I saw a Dodge Viper SRT 10 parked on the street. It was a snazzy metallic blue and looked mint. An hour and a half later when I left, it was still there. It's yet another car that seems out of place in our neighborhood.

Also saw two mid-century roadsters with exposed chromed engines while in the Starbuck's but couldn't tell you the makes and models. I suspect they were kits, though.

Saw a Tesla 3 while in Lexington, Ky today; the interesting bit was it had New York plates. If they drove it here, that had to be a hassle...

A Porsche 356 roadster, I think. It was a very low roadster with the distinctive hump behind the driver's head.

At opposite ends of the spectrum, I saw an Audi R8 and what looked to be a late 40s/early 50s resto-mod Ford pickup. Couldn't see the grill on it, but from the back it looked like 40s. The engine was definitely NOT original.

I saw an Audi R8 w/ Quebec plates outside of Philly last week. That's an 8-hr drive from the southern end of that province; not exactly a day trip & not a lot of luggage space in that car.

I saw my first Porsche station wagon.

This one I didn't see in person but on Google Street while checking out my neighborhood. A tiny truck from the 30's, I think. In the bed is a motorcycle with extra-high handlebars that my Pops used to call ape hangers. It only barely fits because the tailgate is down. On the truck, they'd installed an longer than usual rear axle to accommodate extra-wide tires. They actually sit outside of the wheel wells, which have been covered and modified with sheet metal.

Ahh, checking out Ford Model A trucks online, I see they'd taken off the fenders and running boards. And then screwed on the wheel well coverings. Maybe the axle is original after all but the tires are definitely very wide, so I don't know. They'd also taken off the folding engine cover and added fancy exhaust pipes to the engine that look as if they could hit the doors if you weren't careful opening them.

The Google image capture is dated August of last year and can only be seen at one intersection a few blocks away from my house. In fact, the Model A had probably rolled past it just a minute before the shots were taken. Wish I had seen it and/or the Google car, just to see what it's like.

A Mazda MX-5 roadster almost sideswiped me in the 2 lane on ramp for the freeway this morning. At first, I figured he thought he was a Cadillac taking up his rightful middle lane. Then, I saw that he was goofing with something on the dash, and then, gaining speed, the dunderhead reached over and finally put his seatbelt on. Grrr. Give me that car and I'll show him how to drive it with respect. Funny how those things almost look like mini Corvettes these days.

Today as I was going to town there was what I'm pretty certain was a 1956 Chevrolet 210, white over burnt red, crossing through a traffic signal in front of me. Mighty pretty car. Driver went into Arby's. Well.

I saw many over the weekend — I just did a 1,200 mile weekend road trip through Reno and Winnemucca NV, to Jordan Valley OR and back to San Francisco. Let’s see...

Triumph TR6
1963 Ford Ranchero
Several 1930s Ford Coupe hot rods — had to be a club event
Several 1960s Chevy Camaros — another likely club event; a few were stopped in McDermitt NV
1971 Chevy Chevelle on a trailer going up and over Donner Pass
1958 Chevy Delray

And others. It was a target-rich environment.

One of our local congressional campaigners has been tootling around in an early 60s milk truck as his campaign vehicle. I finally saw the truck on Monday, next to me on the freeway. It was a real treat to see because it brought me right back to early childhood and memories of wheedling chunks of ice from the milkman - the only popsicle my mother would let me have.

Seems to be old Ford week in my neck of the woods. A '64 Falcon Ranchero, off white, similar to this one.
