Because people have asked, here are two suggestions for memorial donations. Please make note that they are in memory of Mike Homza.

Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh
St. Benedict Monastery
3526 Bakerstown Road
Bakerstown, PA 15007-9726

There is also a "donate" link on their website: http://www.osbpgh.org

The second option is a fund for port-a-johns and other expenses for his beloved F&I encampment at Cook Forest State Park. Please make check or money order payable to PPFF (stands for Pennsylvania Parks & Forestry Foundation), mark it "Cook Forest F&I Encampment" and send it to the following:

Dale Luthringer
Cook Forest State Park
P.O. Box 120 (River Road)
Cooksburg, PA 16217

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks.

The Pennsylvania Parks & Forestry Foundation also has a donate page:
Quote:
DONATE TO A STATE PARK OR A STATE FOREST

Just enter the name of the park or forest in the "Comment" box and we'll make sure the money goes just where you want.

So theoretically you looks like you would just enter "Cook Forest F&I Encampment" into the Comment box.

Perhaps someone could contact the organization and verify this is correct? [It is possible they would put the money in a general Cook Forest State Park fund--rather than the F&I Encampment fund--so this should be verified.]

Thank you - I was unaware of the donation link. I just provided the instructions from our contact who said that funds not specifically earmarked would go to overall operations and not the event itself. I'll check this with him and let you know.

My condolences, OW.

I can't donate to those, will drop some paper in Mike's name at my local church. It goes to Catholic Charities.

Since the contact never got back to you, an alternative would be for you to set up a Gofundme--and you could make the decision about the split between the event and the religious group--for those who have not contributed yet.

I'm sorry - my contact was on vacation and I didn't realize he'd replied to me a few days ago. Unfortunately, this is his response:

There really isn’t an efficient way for us to track this at Cook Forest if they donate to the event on-line. If they truly want to donate to the event, the best way is if they send a check/money order written out to either the ‘Pennsylvania Parks & Forests Foundation’ or ‘PPFF’ for short with ‘Cook F&I’ written in the memo and sent to:

Cook Forest State Park
ATTN: Cook F&I
P.O. Box 120
Cooksburg, PA 16217

We’ll know exactly how much they want donated, and donated where. We have several PPFF accounts for Cook Forest. They’ll receive a donation thank-you letter directly from us acknowledging it’s a tax deductible donation. PPFF will only send an acknowledgement if the donation is greater than a certain amount.

Sorry for the confusion, but snail mail is still the best way to make sure their donation goes into the correct pot.

My alternate suggestions would be Animal Friends (because I just got my first cat from there) or any historic site.

Thank you all for asking about this.
