Greatest Three Episode Run of a TV Series

I have been rewatching Star Trek TNG and in the third season back to back to back we got "Yesterday's Enterprise" "The Offspring" and "Sins of the Father". All three of those are among the strongest episodes the series ever made and all three are in nearly every fan's top ten list of greatest episodes of all time if not top five. One of those three is often someone's favorite episode ever.

Has any series had a stronger run of three episodes in a row?

The Office, Season 4:
The Deposition
Dinner Party
Chair Model

The Deposition is a surprisingly serious episode that builds to the climax of Dinner Party, which is easily one of the best episodes of the show. And then you have the fairly silly Chair Model as an epilogue and palate cleanser.

The first three episodes of the Battlestar Galactica reboot (after the initial miniseries): "33," "Water," and "Bastille Day."

Do three-part episodes count? If so, I'd like to nominate the Imaginationland episode of South Park.

IIRC Granite State isn't that interesting, but you could sandwich anything in between Ozymandias and Felina and have the average be utterly fantastic.

The Big Bang Theory's last two episodes of season 10 ("The Gyroscopic Collapse" and "The Long Distance Dissonance" and first episode of season 11 "The Proposal Prososal." The middle episode had the best jaw dropping cliff hanger in TV history.

Really? You'd have a hard time finding a streak of 3 episodes in that show that were good, let alone in contention for the best ever. What three episodes would you suggest are Walking Dead as its best?

I wonder if for breaking bad Rabid Dog/To'jajilee/Ozymandias would fit better, since that more accurately follows the climax of the series with the other two episodes being a sort of epilogue, but... probably not. In raw quality the last three are probably it.

It's actually kind of amazing how well Breaking Bad stuck the landing. There was a while where Game of Thrones could've claimed it was as good as Breaking Bad (never quite as good) but they've really just fallen apart at the ending. Breaking Bad just kept, incredibly, getting better and better right through the end. I'm not sure we'll ever see that again.

If we were to include GoT, we'd probably look at 4.08 (The Mountain and the Viper), 4.09 (The Watchers on the Wall), 4.10 (The Children) as the best three episode run. But it's debatable.

AVclub just wrote about this as well. they listed Battlestar and the Office, but used different episodes. Great shows, for sure.

Are we counting the run up to a big finale? There are a lot of shows who pulled out all the stops in their last few episodes.

Quantum Leap:
M.I.A.
The Leap Home, Part I
The Leap Home, Part III (note, this isn't a two-part episode; it's connected to Part I, but Part I resolves, and Part II has a great triple twist ending.

Upon further review, and with allowances made for what I suspect is an erroneous Roman numeral, I withdraw my earlier submission.

"Trilogy" was my second choice, but these three were more powerful television. And, yes, that should be Part II

I think this is almost certainly correct. 1.08-1.10 and 4.01-4.03 are also pretty good.

"Delocated" Season 2 had a run of some of the funniest episodes of any comedy, ever:

-Dog Mayor
-Mixer
-Jon He Does It
-Mole
-Kim's Krafts

Pick any consecutive 3 out of that list.

See, to my way of thinking, if you’ve got City On The Edge Of Forever on the one hand and Amok Time on the other, you accept Operation: Annihilate.

The Simpsons would be tough. During their best seasons, they would have an outstanding episode surrounded by merely very decent ones so an argument could be made for a lot. I'm going to go with Season 6:

Itchy and Scratchy Land
Sideshow Bob Roberts
Treehouse of Horror V

Leland/BOB killing Maddy was one of the best murder scenes in history. The death of Leland was horrific yet strangely peaceful at the same time. Great stuff here.

It depends on whether your idea of a perfect view is three beautiful mountains next to each other, or two of the most majestic mountains in the world separated by the most run-down strip club at the emptiest exit of the most boring Interstate highway in the U.S. No matter how much you like driving fast when there are no cops around, and how much you like strippers, you have to admit it spoils the view.

Agents of SHIELD, Season 4:
Self Control
What If
Identity and Change

(I would dearly love to include No Regrets, but not at the expense of including Self Control.) Really, the entire back half of that season is incredible. (I would also accept Season 1: Turn, Turn, Turn; Providence; The Only Light in the Darkness)

I’d go with some earlier episodes of The West Wing.

The Season 2 wrap up of “The Fall’s Gonna Kill You,” “18th and Potomac,” and “Two Cathedrals” is pretty damn tight. Or you could go a few episodes earlier with “Somebody’s Going To Emergency, Somebody’s Going To Jail,” “The Stackhouse Filibuster,” and “17 People.” The last seven episodes of Season 2 are a pretty darn good arc all together.

You also couldn’t go wrong with “What Kind Of Day Has It Been” wrapping up Season 1 and the two-part Season 2 openers “In The Shadow Of Two Gunmen, Parts I and II.”
