So this thread is still alive, eh? Wow!

I thought of a few more candidates while I was on the plane to Moscow. Phillip Pine was one of them.

The others include:

Richard Denning, "The Governor" on the original Hawaii Five-O;

Dan Dailey, "The Governor" on The Governor and JJ;

Richard Anderson, who was in practically everything before landing the role of Oscar Goldman on The $6 Million Man;

John Crawford, the guy who played Commissioner Farris in "The Galileo Seven." He was in M:I as well, and was a real prick both times.

Steve Inhat, the guy who played Lord Garth in "Whom Gods Destroy." He was in M:I as well, and was a real prick both times.

Edmond O'Brien, in the M:I episode "The Counterfeiter," but probably too old.

One other, out of left field: Jack Cassidy, David's father.

While I'm at it, Columbo had a distinguished list of guest stars as well. If you've already perused the ones of TOS and M:I, you might as well do that show too.

So is Frank Overton, whom I remember from TOS and 12 O'Clock High.

Chad Everett is too handsome. Tige Andrews black-haired (my guy is gray-haired). John Dehner is too distinguished. Wendell Corey has the right look, but it's not him. Ihnat was too young (and, alas, never got not to be). Jack Cassidy, I'd know. Frank Overton I'd know (played Elias Sandoval, right?).

I'm beginning to think that maybe one of my initial parameters was incorrect so we've all been fishing in the wrong hole. Anyway, I'll keep looking. Good idea to check Colombo. Might also give the Invaders series a look. (I've already done the old Bixby Hulk.) Just hoping the guys IMDB pic looks like him. Maybe I'm think Trek because he did a TNG part, who knows.

Joe Maross lacks an IMDB profile pic, but (a) he’s a Hey It’s That Guy, and (b) after playing a mobster who got conned on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, he spent the ‘70s showing up whenever you’d expect to see dumb-muscle crooks and a sneerer with a full head of greying hair: HAWAII FIVE-O, THE ROCKFORD FILES, IRONSIDE, CANNON, BANACEK, MANNIX, CHARLIE’S ANGELS, THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO — and, heck, even WONDER WOMAN and THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN.

And, yes, QUINCY — as, well, an insurance agent! (Granted, no STAR TREK credits; but TWILIGHT ZONE plus THE OUTER LIMITS ain’t bad...)

No, it's not Captain Nice. And Joe Maross is a good guess, but it isn't him either. I remember him from an Invaders ep playing a small town sheriff, I think it was.

E-Dub is a fucking liar. He never asked for a specific player, he never mentioned a specific part.

E-Dub lies for fun. Don't let him have fun on you.

candide, not only was that completely unacceptable, it was also, so far as I know, completely unprovoked. In what possible sense does asking a vague question make someone a liar? This is an official Warning, for personal insults.

I was going to suggest Joe Maross too, but couldn't think of his name.

I assume you've already ruled out Arthur Hill, aka "Owen Marshall"?

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/02...g?v=1497381955

He was the only enemy agent in M:I actually shown to be reading something in Russian instead of Gellerese (Clausewitz's On War, or О войне).

I also assume you're hitting Ctrl + + to magnify the pages with the cast photos?

Melvin Belli?

Among all of Star Trek’s third season “stunt cat” guest stars on NBC, one of the oddest to be cast was hardly an actor: legendary San Francisco celebrity and personal injury attorney Melvin Belli played Gorgan, the alien using an unsettling “Friendly Angel” persona in “And the Children Shall Lead.” Belli brought along his young son Caesar too, seen in the episode as “Steve O’Connel.”

This guy comes pretty close: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0551731/?ref_=tt_cl_t6 (Frank Marth.) And the opinion of "Candide" to the contrary, I'm being quite truthful here. As I said in the OP if I remembered something the guy had been in I wouldn't need you guys. But I can understand the skepticism. I've looked at so many head shots in the last few days that they're all running together.

Oh, Jeez, I think I know who you're talking about, and he was definitely in M:I---but of course, I can't think of his goddamned name, or which episode(s) he was in. I'll keep trying, though. I'm pretty sure he spoke with a faux European accent, so it was probably in the Landau/Bain era....

Thank you. But I actually took more offense from the implication that I wouldn't recognize the actor that played Oscar Goldman, the Night Strangler, and one of the guys in forbidden Planet. Or the actor who portrayed Captain Nice, Mark Craig and was the voice of K.I.T.T.

And still no joy. You guys are making me doubt my own sanity here. Look, I'm sorry about the vagueness of the question, but if I could be more specific I'd be able to find the answer myself.

That guy looks a good deal like Gene Dynarski, who has STAR TREK credits as well as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE credits as well as the expected 1970s ‘crime series’ credits in KOJAK and CANNON and BANACEK and MANNIX and so on.

No, not him either. And before anybody mentions them it isn't Andrew Duggan or Arch Johnson.

But the latter would have been close.

Kiley is too handsome (And it's not Theodore Bikel either, too heavy). Forster I'd know, especially since his career had something of a rebirth. And Barry Atwater is a good guess, but it's not him either. And while we're eliminating Barrys, it's not Barry Sullivan. These guys are all way too well known.

Heh. Was it Jay Robinson?

SPOILER:
In a timeframe-relevant episode of BANACEK, a bespectacled Jay Robinson uses this as his hide-in-plain-sight gimmick, in a con involving an insurance company.

Showed up on STAR TREK, even, before acting on BARNEY MILLER and MANNIX and HAWAII FIVE-O and so on and so on.

He played Nilz Baris in "The Trouble with Tribbles," in which he at least attempted to be menacing.

Verbal descriptions and random guesses aren’t working. If only you were a police sketch artist, you could draw a picture.

Wait - there’s an app for that! Download the free version of Ultimate Flash Face (no link). If you can come up with a reasonable likeness, add it to this thread. Somebody is likely to know him.

Barry Russo has a Trek credit to like, and it’d be easy to skip past his IMDB pic since he has a mustache in it — but when he’s clean-shaven, he looks like what he was: a guy who earned 1970s credits on shows like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and BANACEK and MANNIX and CANNON and HAWAII FIVE-O and so on and so forth. (And, from a look at his other credits, sometimes he’s playing a mafia don or a police desk sergeant; and sometimes he’s playing Lieutenant Myrowitz or Doctor Terrell.)
