It wasn't really entertaining when far right lunatics and Fox News (but I repeat myself) did this with Obama for eight years, constantly trying to conjure up some personal misconduct scandal, hoping it might stick to him. It was just tiresome and pathetic.

Yes, Correct - I agree.

The same thing with the first lady wearing a head scarf. When Michelle Obama did not wear one, Trump tweeted about how horrible it was, and other Repubs lost their shit. Now Melania does not wear one and .... apparently it's OK now.

Nobody cares. Or rather, nobody SHOULD care. But one side loses their shit when the "other guys" do it, and suddenly changes their minds later on when they do it.

Selective memory, or they are just assholes - not sure which.

I think we can all agree that in the end, no matter how it all resolves, this presidency will come to nothing. And that will indeed be good for everyone.

Regarding $110 Billion in American arms sales and other new investments that the administration says will bring hundreds of thousands of jobs.

This is a big deal, a tremendous deal, believe me when I say that it is a Uuuge deal, the best deal ever made in history! To the American working poor with regards to those hundreds of thousands of jobs? We're shipping those over seas and we're taking away your health insurance. NOW SHUT UP AND GET BACK TO WORK!

Okrahoma is playing you guys like a fiddle: 1. He's just a troll yanking your chains. He doesn't believe any of the shit he's feeding you, so stop feeding him. 2. He's just the latest sock of the banned handsomeharry.

Meanwhile -- and forgive me again if I've missed this in this thread -- I'm seeing a lot of Trump's former campaign staffers are worried about legal bills stemming from the Russian probe. A lot of low-level White House staffers too. Heh. Screw 'em. That's what they get for sleeping with Satan.

Well, I for one think it's absolutely charming that Trump made a graceful little curtesy to a foreign Islamic ruler, like a cute little dimpled girl in pigtails and a pinafore. On the other hand, what the fuck was that outfit Melaina had on as she exited the plane? She looked like Ming the Merciless, ruler of the planet Mongo.

Tell me about it. WWE must be looking around for their champion's belt right about now.*

Also, CBS: go stand in the corner for your headline "Donald of Arabia". Bad network.

Also also: the scene of Trump's Cadillac limo surrounded by a cohort of Arab horse cavalry was...interesting.

Note for the humor-impaired, I.e. Okrahoma: I actually don't give a rat's patoot what Melania wears.

May 14 was Mothers' Day in Australia this year (2nd Sunday in May). Maybe he forgot what country he lives in? Entirely plausible...

Maybe this is some sort of Twitter Intervention Technique?

Every time you pick up the phone to tweet, take a breath and put it down. Close your eyes and imagine yourself to be King - a big strong King with ermine robes and a throne of solid gold. Remember, you are the only one that gets a solid gold throne. And you are the only one that can issue royal proclamations. Only you. So proclaim away, but the rules of proclamation say you can only use them to give people you like their own weeks. You can't proclaim anyone to be a showboating nut job. So put down the phone and issue those proclamations, mighty King - just be sure to follow the rules!

Yeah, actually it's the same here. It's just that if your average citizen is so unaware of the date that the President has to proclaim it, a mere two days in advance ain't gonna cut it.

Sheriff Clarke will fit right in.
Quote:
Controversial Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who this week announced he will be joining Donald Trump's administration as assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security, plagiarized sections of his 2013 master's thesis on US security, a CNN KFile review has found.

According to guidelines on plagiarism posted on the Naval Postgraduate School's website, "If a passage is quoted verbatim, it must be set off with quotation marks (or, if it is a longer passage, presented as indented text), and followed by a properly formulated citation. The length of the phrase does not matter. If someone else's words are sufficiently significant to be worth quoting, then accurate quotation followed by a correct citation is essential, even if only a few words are involved."

The school's honor code defines plagiarism as "submitting material that in part or whole is not one's own work without proper attribution. Plagiarism is further defined as the use, without giving reasonable and appropriate credit to or acknowledging the author or source, of another person's original work, whether such work is made up of code, formulas, ideas, language, research, strategies, writing or other form(s)."

It is like Trump not only got his clue to run for the presidency from the Simpsons, but also from the parody of Mary Poppins from the same show where a "lesson" was to do half-assed efforts that can get you more time to do the stuff that they consider "fun".

...
Sheriff Clarke fits in in other ways. He was in Moscow the same week as Flynn. To be fair it could be entirely coincidental.

In retrospect, the second week of December 2015 is notable: In Moscow’s Metropol Hotel, now-disgraced Trump national security adviser Gen. Michael Flynn dined with Putin at a dinner held by Russia Today, a state-sponsored propaganda outlet.
The NRA delegation’s 2015 trip to Russia took place the same week, lasting from Dec. 8-13, according to Clarke’s public financial disclosure forms, (PDF), and included not only the people who met with Rogozin but a number of other NRA dignitaries, including donors Dr. Arnold Goldshlager and Hilary Goldschlager, as well as Jim Liberatore, the CEO of the Outdoor Channel.

I finally saw a clip of the bow/curtsey/dance/thing Trump did. I get that Trump is quite a bit taller than the king and needed to bend down a little. But his little genuflect and bob was just weird. I don't make much out of it other than that Trump doesn't know how to human. But, given his -- and the rest of the right wing hate machine's -- criticism of Obama for bowing, Trump deserves at least three or four news cycles' worth of this playing on constant loop.

Caught parts of Jake Tapper's show on CNN. Couple of idiot GOP Congresscritters saying it's a good thing Trump won't use the phrase "Radical Islamic Terrorism" in today's speech so we don't alienate current and potential allies.
Little kids in refugee camps are potential targets for recruitment unless we get them out and improve their lives.

Looks like that Obama fellow was pretty smart after all.

It just keeps coming AT us

How are we dealing with "the New Normal":

“Trump years are like dog years,” sighs Peter Sagal. Sagal hosts NPR’s news quiz show, “Wait, Wait . . . Don’t Tell Me,” which airs on the weekends but has the misfortune to tape on Thursdays, which, in the current era, is at least six or seven news cycles behind.

“I have been afraid to get on airplanes because I wonder what’s going to have happened by the time I land. It’s like, with the latest news — ”
...

Sagal says he feels that the American public has adjusted fairly quickly to this new state of outrage churn. We cannot remember a time Before. We are well equipped. We are prepared. We are lean scandal digesters, able to scarf down the next foible that’s flung in front of us.

“You’ve seen the movie ‘Castaway’?” Sagal says. “There’s that amazing transition in the middle of the movie. In the first half, Tom Hanks finds himself in the middle of the island — he doesn’t know how to survive; he’s totally unprepared. And then there’s a cut, and suddenly it’s four years later. He knows how to hunt, he knows how to fish, he knows how to make rope, and he’s talking to Wilson. And that is the American people right now. We know how to fish and we’re talking to a volleyball.”

The American people are alighting on their own coping mechanisms. The American people are using words like “self care” to justify the need to occasionally turn off CNN and just watch “Tiny House Hunters” marathons on HGTV. ...
The whole article is good: "Sick of being shocked by the news? Don’t worry, it will get worse"

Actually, yesterday I left my computer and kindle and watched several episodes of "House Hunters International" to get some relief. Of course, that generates a new kind of outrage ("If you wanted your dishwasher and four-burner range, you should have stayed in the G.D. USA and not moved to Thailand! And yeah, if you want a freakin' doorman, it's going to cost you!")

Oddly enough, Trump seems to be giving a grown up persuasive speech to the leaders of the Muslim world. Maybe he's just been preaching to the wrong choir all this time.
