For maybe the oldest car brand name drop in a song title, there’s “Terraplane Blues” by Robert Johnson.

Okay. I'm the biggest Tom Paxton fan on this board, and it's taking me a day to come up with his two songs that mention trademarks? And one is very well known, and nobody mentioned it?

I'm changing my name to Chrysler
And I'm going down to Washington DC
I'll tell some power broker
What he did for Iaccoa
Would be perfectly acceptable to me.
------------------------------------
Thank you, Republic Airlines
For treating my instrument with care
My guitar case was so good that nothing could go through it.
Way to go, Republic, only you can do it.

Three songs about record labels (all not too friendly towards them):

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Working For MCA

Sex Pistols - EMI

Stiff Little Fingers - Rough Trade

There is a Cub Fan Blues which was inspired by Steve Goodman's A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Lament (already mentioned up thread) but written by someone else.

Or some other variety like in Beck's Novocane.

ETA: maybe even Velvet Underground's Heroin counts. It used to be the official brand name for Bayer.

ETA2: or another drug, like Pretty Paracetamol by Fischer Z.

And another car song:

Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz

ETA: have we already got a motorbike song? Here's a great one, Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightning.

Kodak was pissed when Kodachrome came out. However, attitudes about copyright infringement vs. free advertising had changed and Polaroid was thrilled when Hey Ya was released. Of course, Polaroid had already filed for bankruptcy at that point.

No that didn't answer the question, nor do I have a citation (it was told to me by a former employee of one of the companies).

There's a wonderful state park in Utah called Kodachrome Basin SP.
Quote:
They [National Geographic photographers] named the area Kodachrome Flat, after the then relatively new brand of Kodak film they used. In 1962 the area was designated a state park. Fearing repercussions from the Kodak film company for using the name Kodachrome, the name was changed to Chimney Rock State Park, but renamed Kodachrome Basin a few years later with Kodak's permission.

Eye of the Hurricane by David Wilcox (the Hurricane being referenced was a Honda motorcycle)

Interesting that a disproportionate number of brands mentioned seem to be alcohol or vehicles.

Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats (actually Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm). It was inspired by the then-new Oldsmobile Rocket 88 and is generally considered to be the first rock and roll song.

Two more from Tom Paxton that sort of apply here:

Talking Watergate. Watergate was a tradmarked name for the complex.
Paxton wrote 'MY Dog's Bigger Than Your Dog," which was later bought by Ken--L-Ration and became "The Ken-L-Ration" song that everybody knows.

Does it count if the brand name came about because of the song? Alice's Restaurant of Sky Londa, California, founded in the 1960's, was named in homage to the Arlo Guthrie song.

Jimmy Olsen's Blues

before you complain about it just being a character, they used to publish comics called Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, making it a brand as well.
