Most Republicans know it too. Especially the ones smart enough to get elected. Being hypocrites doesn't preclude them from being smart.

I didn't until somebody explained it in the GD thread about tuition inflation a few months back.
But even if we give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume that he was unaware of the UC/CSU tiered system, there's still no way he could have made an accurate statement, because all the CSU campuses offer American history in a variety of forms.

I teach US history at a CSU campus, and our department has multiple offerings in American history, from broad surveys through to specialist topics like the history of religion in America, history of sport in America, borderlands history, American women's history, the history of California, and a bunch of others. This is the case, as far as i'm aware, at every CSU campus, with some offering more choice than others in terms of subject matter diversity.

Not only do the CSU campuses offer American history, but almost all of them actually have an American Institutions requirement, whereby even students in STEM and other non-humanities majors have to take at least one or two courses dealing with the history and development of American government or society.

Maybe he meant any of the University of Canada campuses.

The CA abbreviation threw him.

It really doesn't matter which part of which system he was talking about. He was wrong on all counts for any or all of them.

Right.

The information itself was incorrect, which means that his comments were a result of:

1) being misinformed by his aides and advisers,
2) his own misunderstanding of something that he read or was told, or
3) a deliberate decision to disseminate false information.

With Santorum, number 3 seems more likely than not.

By Santorum rules, none of those count, unless they teach about when Jesus built the Statue of Liberty.

I know you're joking, but the really funny part is that you can take many American History courses in pretty much any university in Canada.

Here's a typical listing from a typical medium sized history dept in a Canadian university:

Intro History of the United States
Revolutionary America and the Early Republic
Antebellum America and the Civil War
The United States in the 20th Century: 1890-1945
The United States in the 20th Century: 1945-Present
The American West
US Foreign Relations, 1750-1914
US Foreign Relations, 1914 to the Present
The American Experience in Vietnam
Seminar in American History
Canadian-American Relations
Northwest America to 1849

I bet you're one of them librul college professors brainwashing our kids, teaching not American History but Socialist Communist American history, like slavery was bad, slaves weren't happy, American Indians didn't really want to be massacred, and that the Founding Fathers weren't devout Christian Fundamentalists. In other words, you don't teach it the Texas way.

I visited Berwick, Pennsylvania once. I've never been to the Southern states, but from their depiction in television and cinema, it seemed similar.

You bet! mhendo practices classic brainwashing techniques: imprisonment, isolation, sensory deprivation or overstimulation, drugs, and a constant stream of propaganda. 'Cuz, you know, they're only in college. It's not like they can get up and leave or anything.

Central PA is still Appalachia. So is upstate NY, northern New England, and the Atlantic provinces. All of them are chock full o' rednecks, if not so many blacks as further south. It's a mountain thing.

Well, yeah, but if we can't pack that other thread with at least seventy more pages, our non-partisan, centrist credentials are questionable.

OK, I got one. A parks and recreation commissioner in Deer Creek, Minnesota, is a Democrat. Locked his keys in his car! Twice! Once with his family inside!

Come on, people, we can do this!

Nah, Texas has more influence, because the textbook publishers know that at least some of their customers in Texas know how to read - and I'm talking about the teachers.

The list is incomplete; it should read:

1) being misinformed by his aides and advisers and
1a) believing the misinformation because he has a monodigital IQ, or
2) his own misunderstanding of something that he read or was told and
2a) being too busy wiping drool off himself to realize "hey, that can't be right", or
3) a deliberate decision to disseminate false information.

Logical grouping: (1 AND 1a) OR (2 AND 2a) OR 3

You guys have it all wrong. Santorum didn't decide to deliberately spread false information. That would imply that Santorum knew the information he was spreading was factually untrue, but spread it anyway in an attempt to hornswoggle people, which is called lying. But even though he's a conservative hack politician, that doesn't mean he's so nefarious as to pathologically lie about the most minor things. No, what he's doing is bullshitting. Once he hears a little nugget of untruth like "California universities don't teach American history," he could fact check it, but he doesn't actually care whether it's true or not. He just knows that it will whip the rubes at his campaign stops into a frenzy.

Fox News anchor (not a commentator, but a straight news anchor) Heather Childers tweeted this: Did Obama threaten Chelsea Clinton's life 2 keep parents silent? Godfather politics. She provided a link to a crazy conspiracy theory story that includes references to Joe Arpaio. The story ends with this:
Quote:
When you see how blatantly Obama has defied the US Constitution and federal law without any apology or excuses, itís not hard to believe that he, like every other dictator in history, obtained his position by intimidation, threats and outright violence. Knowing he is capable of this has to make every single American extremely fearful if Obama gets re-elected.

And if the voter fraud will be as prevalent in November as it was in 2008, it seems a sure thing that he will be re-elected. Obama has had the DOJ strike down every voter ID law and any other measure taken, to reduce the chance of voter fraud. They have set the stage for an old fashioned Chicago style election with padded and illegal votes. Wait a minute, he is a Chicago politician, so guess heís just following local history at a national level.

If he does get re-elected, Iím positive it will mean the end of free elections and free America. We will become another Soviet Union: a land run by an elite group of Marxists who will exploit all of the people for their own personal gain. America, for all intent and purpose will be dead if Obama gets re-elected.

As long as the Kenyan Muslim Socialist Prezdit is from there (never mind, keep going), you're going to keep hearing about it. Unless the bitch queen, who's from there originally too, replaces him.

So, 4.8-12.8 years, give or take.

Mitt Romney tries to portray President Obama as being out of touch:
“We have a president, who I think is a nice guy, but he spent too much time at Harvard,”

Obama received one degree from Harvard. Spent three years there.

Romney received two advanced degrees and spent 4 years at, of all places, Harvard. He thought well enough of it that he also sent a couple of his sons to study there.

Harvard education only makes you an out of touch elitist if you are a Democrat it seems.

This is well-worn schtick for Romney.

Last time he went after the Republican nomination, he made a habit of complaining about "eastern elites."

Sorry, douchebag, but when you have two advanced degrees from Harvard, when you founded and ran a Boston-based financial corporation, when you served as governor of Massachusetts, and when you are worth about a quarter of a billion dollars, you don't get to complain about "eastern elites."

Except, i guess you do, because there are apparently a load of Republican voters who are happy to swallow that shit.
