The Hotels.com Capt. Obvious spots have always seemed a bit...well...obvious, but I have to admit, this one took me by surprise.

Why is she there and we're here?

The Indeed Radio Commercial:

Announcer: Okay, there is no monkey (cymbal clanging continues). I said (screaming) There is so monkey.

I suspect that was not in the original script, but someone was not paying attention and didn't turn off the monkey. Always cracks me up.

I remember looking forward to the Geico ads that imitated the stye of unsolved mysteries.

I.e. a man in a suit saying, "Does GEICO save you money on insurance, does..."

Cut to a silly punchline.

My favorite of them all is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPX2cQP8uoI

I love the Doritos commercial featuring Sam Elliott, who slowly recites the lyrics to a song called "Old Town Road".

2020 Superbowl

'Smaht Pahk' was great, but my favorite was the Maloney-Lyons parody on the Godfather. The emu head was priceless.

I liked the Shining Mountain Dew commercial and the one where all people came together to clean the house. Biggest loser: the Tide Pod series with the saga about the guy not getting his shirt clean. Hey genius, clean it yourself or change it, just shut the fuck up about it.

I genuinely love this insurance advert, because not only does it bring up one of the things that is genuinely something that everyone experiences when filling out a home insurance form, it does it in an amusing and very well acted way:

(It's the Aviva "does your lock conform to bs3621" advert)

Maybe it was mentioned, maybe not...The General Insurance commercial, where the guy can't afford car insurance and has to go shopping with Grandma on her scooter. He's sitting, miserable, on the back as they putt along, joggers passing them by, she's wearing goggles -'COMING IN HOT'...

Maybe because I owned one and it may be my favorite car ever, but the Toyota Highlander commercial that debuted during the Super Bowl still gets me smiling.

A bit of trivia, the actor who played the gecko's boss in that commercial is Brian Carney, the son of famed actor Art Carney.

This is an old one, but I just saw it for the first time: Haynes Baked Beans.

It's actually an ad for a visual effects company, not (nonexistent) Haynes beans.

Katie Sowers for the Microsoft Surface Pro 7

I like the commercial with Katie Sowers for the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 tablet, even though I donít care about football.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved football. She decided that when she grew up, she would be the first woman in the NFL. Then she did it. What an inspiring story!

I believe it's Geiko's homeowner's/apartment insurance commercials where people love their new apartments-- except for the small "clog" and "Ratt" problems.

I only scanned the most recent page to see if it's been mentioned:

The Folger's commercial with the woman who thinks she's surprising her husband in the shower, opening her robe and the shower curtain. Then a chorus sings:

"You've got something up your sleeve
What you didn't know is you were surprising your father-in-law Steve"

I'm amused at how father-in-law Steve doesn't seem shocked or embarrassed at all, he just gives her a good pervy up-and-down once-over, then tilts his head very subtly, as if to say "come on in if you want".

I came back to this thread for the Ratt commercial. It isn't enough for me to switch to Geico, but I do smile at the commercial when it shows up.

I laugh at so many Geico ads. But come to think of it, we didn't even consider Geico when we got insurance...

Which brings up my fundamental problem with so much modern advertising... why would "Geico made me laugh" equate to "I'll trust them to come through with cash if I have an accident"?

Hey, I worked in advertising (for... decades; god, I'm old). And I wrote/designed a lot of funny ads. They were my favorites, they made me feel like I was doing some good in the world... but WHY did they work? When I think of my favorite ads, there's no correlation to products/services I'll pay good money for.

I mean, when we bought our car, we would've been fools to say "Who's got the sexiest shots of a silver car drifting on wet twisty roads?"

No, we asked "Okay, what'll be the most practical, and cost the least over the next five to ten years?" So we bought a Toyota, even though we hate the ads (I think, since we gave the Toyota company money, we should get a golden ticket that exempts us from ever seeing "Jan" again).

Cheetos and Bud Light have had some of THE best Superbowl ads. But they don't tempt me to buy AT ALL... maybe because the former doesn't count as food, and the other is barely beer.
