IIRC, each season, the opening credits feature two real clips among all the fake ones. The bit at the end where they're fighting some jacked up Abraham Lincoln looking guy is in this season's opening credits.

Correct. Snuffles was his slave name. And where are his testicles, Ike Witt? Where are his testicles...?

I can't argue with that. However, Emperor Snowball did allow Morty to call him Snuffles and did not correct it.

Here's what IMDB lists as the summary for this upcoming episode. It doesn't seem like it's truly the summary, but it's kinda hilarious. I'll spoiler it. We'll see soon enough if it's a real description, or someone messing around.

SPOILER:
Rick and Morty find a magic squirrel and travel to space where they do some over the clothes stuff

The new episode was actually IMO pretty cruddy. (I'd have preferred the squirrel thing.) And WTF level of laziness did they have to not actually build a www.story-train.com?

I agree. The episode seemed promising, what with all the meta/narrative-theory stuff, but it was just a jumble. And the framing story was weird, but not in a good way---with Rick going all
SPOILER:
far-right shill-for-capitalism,
which didn't seem either funny or pointed.

I have a feeling the writer had a nightmare after spending an evening looking over an old narratology textbook and watching Snowpiercer.

I thought it was brilliant.

Here's a couple of references I haven't seen covered in YT videos.

There's a Jacob's Ladder bit.

This isn't so much a reference but I thought it was funny. When Morty is forced to invent a story that passes the Bechdel Test....he struggles mightily until, of course, telling a story about a woman's period.

LONG time ago, I used to complain that all-woman plays (And this was well before Mindy Kaling's "Matt and Ben") would not fail to reference their periods and their men troubles. And that except for Judy Tenuta (!) stand-up comdiennes work would unfailingly comment on their vaginas/periods...and boyfriends. Until Ellen Degeneres came along and i said "At last!!!"

You'll notice there was no teaser. Just an ad of sorts for Adult Swim and weird way of conflating six feet apart with this being episode six.

NONE of the episode was canon. The entire thing was a commercial for the train. And a comment on corporate activism.

So, I'm in the middle of this story about them on the train when Rick pulls out a picture of the train and starts explaining where they are and where they have to be.
Oddly enough, just a few days ago I finished watching Community and was watching some youtube videos about it. Many of them discuss how Dan Harmon writes a story using this circle. The diagram of the train and Rick's explanation of what they need to do is a literal interpretation of the circle Dan uses to write stories, while they're riding on a literal plot device.

I thought the episode was a discussion for the concept that the writers are having trouble coming up with new ideas, so there is a train with infinite story lines. Kind of a meta 'this show isn't easy to write for' type storyline.

The part about jesus was funny though, their marketability and likability dropped off pretty hard then.

Solid episode, if not one of their best.

It was VERY meta and self-mockingly so, which made it kind of meta-meta, I guess. The Bechdel Test bit was golden, and I dug the purposely-defective spacesuit, and the alien left outside in the cold at Christmas, and Morty's fumbling attempts to come up with stories. I loved that Rick defeated Story Lord by going full Christian (nice to have the Veggie Tales guys show up, though!). I was also glad to see Evil Morty, Evil Mr. Poopybutthole, a battalion of Mr. Meeseeks, as well as Birdperson (singing a glurgey song with Rick in midflight), and Tammy and Summer having a lightsaber duel. I also thought it was funny that Cartoon Network didn't actually bother to set up the toy train website (naturally I checked).

Even more of an excuse for improv than intergalactic cable. Barely comprehensible. I don't need my R&M to really make sense and can go all over the place, but this one, nah. Lazy. 25 odd ideas loosely bound in an excuse. Selling a train? WTF?

I liked it until they ran out of stubby conductor jokes, then it trailed off. I do actually need some sense in my Rick and Morty, and if there was any to be had here, it eluded me. If it were funnier, I might be more willing to accept the lack-of-sense.

Weak opening to the 2nd half of the season. Speaking of which, I hope they have their act together and we start seeing longer seasons with less downtime, since they went all-in and ordered a ton of episodes.

It made perfect sense as about the creative process, elements of a narrative, and all that.

I thought this episode (Season 4 Episode 7 :Promortyus) was pretty good. They made fun of Aliens and StarWars among other things. For me, the quality is still high on this show.

I loved it (Sorry, I mean Never-Ricking Morty, the story train episode. We're a week behind here).

If you don't want to be meta, stop deconstructing shit

One of the things I loved about the train episode is that they burned through a bunch of stuff that fans were clamoring for: evil Morty, Snowball, Phoenix Person, poof just burned up in 30 seconds.

"Is this cannon?"
"It could have been!"

I liked this one better than the MetaTrain one. Passing by
SPOILER:
destruction of the alien 'Twin Towers' in favor of committing a Pearl Harbor on the aliens, was classic R&M.
The episode gave Summer something interesting to do, too.

Promortyus was a huge improvement over Never Ricking Morty. I could do without the story-told-in-complementary-flashbacks narrative structure tho.

If this is considered Season 4, shouldn't the title sequence be up to 4+4=8 ? It looks like it still says 3+3=6.

Never Ricking Morty (with the train) was the best episodes this season. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

Promortyus was also quite good. I'd say it was the second best in this season.

They're definitely on a roll.

I liked "Promortyus" (the facehugger ep) and "The Vat of Acid Episode" (the ep about... well, you know) much more than the train one.

Best lines:

"You don't get to tell me what to look at it - I've seen your Pornhub account. Also, who makes a Pornhub account?"
"I hate this. I hate all of this!" "Yeah, keep that feedback coming, Morty. It can only help."
"Yeah, we're better than that. [long pause] Pearl Harbor, on the other hand...."
"I don't sequel. It's called integrity."
"Rickputer: initiate unnecessarily badass suit-up."
"Next time, flamethrowers for sure."
"You're in a cape, Summer - how bad could it be? No bad story ends with a cape."
"I'm making an egg! I'm making an egg!" "You said you'd keep me more in the loop this year...?"

"Interesting choice of meeting place, Rick." "You like it? My grandson had notes."
"Oh, shit, suicide by cop - I love these!"
"You're livin' too fast, Morty." "I don't pay for your friendship, Heroin Keith." "Damn."
The sign: IN CASE OF LADLE

A nice touch: behind the guy in the wheelchair that Morty dumped on the street, was the facade of Moe's Bar from The Simpsons.

Was Summer's friend, watching Jerry do his beekeeping and leching on him, the same one who was talking awhile back to Jessica about wanting to get peed on?

Also, in the plane crash, three of the four survivors are dressed like three of the South Park kids, with Morty as Kenny.

So...not only is Summer openly bitching on a camping trip about missing a high-school drug party*...she's giving her father the hair-dryer treatment and getting away with it. Rick is right. The kids parents are not doing a bang-up job.

*A party her friends are stupid enough to put on social media blast. THAT part is realistic enough. I'm fairly permissive, but my kid better be getting straight A's if she thinks she has enough leverage to bitch to my face that she's missing a drug party.

Meh. A camping trip goes awry and Jerry is the punching bag yet again. Not a great episode, I thought. Not a single memorable line just half an hour after I watched it.

Needed more Heroin Keith, maybe...?
