Economist suggested maybe getting some elite athletes and trainers quarantined, tested and allowed to play in an empty stadium.

I know I would watch it.

Things on TSN are getting weird. They are showing something from The Ocho - Dodge Juggling. And it is probably exactly what you are thinking

Wimbledon, which would have taken place in late June and early July, has been cancelled, as has the Cubs-Cardinals MLB series that was to take place in London on June 13-14.

What sport?

Added to this, rumors of which I am reading very suspicious claims the NBA is “considering” a fan-less, quarantined NBA playoffs in either Las Vegas or Atlantic City.

At this point I think leagues are sending out trial balloons on SM just to see how the public will react.

Just give it up.

Is the whole country being treated to a re-run of the Celtics' 131-92 rout of the Lakers in Game 6 of the 2008 NBA finals? Or is it something special for us Boston-area fans?

I can't imagine how that would be of much interest to the rest of the country.

Trump said he thinks little league will start on time! Maybe sports books can take bets on that.

Since I'm not a basketball fan, I don't know if they're still doing it, but three weeks ago, at what would have been the start of March Madness, CBS ran broadcasts of classic NCAA tourney games of the past; the first one they showed was the 1982 Georgetown-UNC championship, where Michael Jordan hit the game-winning shot. My second cousin was a trainer for the Tar Heels then - which is how I later came to get MJ's autograph - and my dad's boss was a huge Carolina fan, so I'd been to a couple of games that year. Was looking forward to seeing the game, but my DirectTV subscription was bunged up, so I missed it.

When one wrestler leaps onto the other from atop the ropes, no doubt he'll land six feet away.

The Bundesliga in Germany has started training again, albeit in very limited ways. There are reports England's Premier League is shooting for a June return date, but all these reports are based on a single article in the Daily Mirror. Let's wait for a more reputable source before taking that seriously.

UFC using a private island and also a private US site. They are not disclosing either location for now. I would think locations would leak out.

Rugby League is the first to try for a restart ...

NRL has announced a plan to restart 28th May.
My money is that this decision, apparently made without consulting the state government, health authorities and even the broadcasters will will be rescinded or at least pushed back.

There’s been “rumors” that the NBA will have a “HORSE” tournament, Major League Baseball will play at spring training facilities in Florida and Arizona, blah blah blah.

These have all caused outrage among the media, at best they are ideas just being floated out there, at worst they are “trial balloons” being floated via social media to see how the public will react.

Our local pro wrestling promotion is considering doing the same thing. Not live, but we do have a weekly TV show that airs locally, and these matches would be recorded for that. Matches would occur in the training facility, with only necessary people in attendance (referee, wrestlers, cameraman). Commentary could be dubbed in later, and there would be no need for a ring announcer.

At this stage, it's only an idea be considered, and no decisions have been made. The wrestlers are keeping in shape in their home gyms, but they're not training together, which they need to, and which I know they are missing. Safety first, though.

This is both sad but also hilarious:

Kyle Larson, NASCAR driver, suspended for using racial slur during virtual race
Larson (who himself is half Japanese) was trying to do a mic check and let out the N-word.

The story also goes on to talk about how racer Bubba Wallace lost Blue Emu as a sponsor last Sunday because he rage-quit in the middle of a race while crashing.

The reason why I have to laugh a bit is that as any online gamer knows, crap like slurs in voice chat and angry quitting are part of the experience. They are very unfortunate things that represent what can happen when people are in competition, aren’t facing the people they are competing with, and (usually) have a great deal of anonymity.

(Also see John Gabriel’s Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.)
In this case, the people involved are anything but anonymous, they are supposedly professionals, and their careers and a lot of sponsorship money is on the line. Yet they are at times acting like the 13-year-old Xbox Live trolls you’re likely to run across playing Fortnite.

It looks like the PGA is scheduling a June 11 return.
No spectators are expected for the first few weeks at least, and golf is the ultimate solo sport.

Rugby League is expected to be back on in Australia on 28 May.

I have worked with a few Americans and Canadians who have picked it up easily and sometimes become fans while working out here.

The NRL has lots of highlight packages where you can see how familiar the skills are for US football fans.

Some major tennis stars are playing a computer tennis tournament online. Eurosport has all(?) of it on their youtube, entirely free.

Nadal and Murray are in it.

Thanks for the heads-up. This will be the first Kentucky Derby Day in years that I won't be at my local track, wagering on local racing and the Derby, so I'll look forward to this. Thanks again!

The Atlanta Track Club postponed the Peachtree Road Race - the world's largest 10K - from July 4th to Thanksgiving Day. I'm surprised they've waited this long, but as a friend pointed out, the Peachtree accounts for about 85% of the ATC's yearly revenue.

On the plus side, cooler temperatures should make for faster times and fewer heat-related injuries. On the minus side, that means they'll have to cancel the Thanksgiving Day Half-Marathon, which will end my three-year streak. Oh well, first world problems.

The Auckland Warriors are the first people to have been given approval to fly into the country since the imposition of travel bans. Queensland seems to have joined the yea’s Lining up the ducks and so the players are probably going into camps in the next couple of days and the restart is broadly on schedule.

Of course, given the NRL players well earned and unimpeachable track record of complying with the most basic societal behaviours and expectations, there is every chance that faced with the necessary isolations, restrictions and regulations of these times that they will be compliant and responsible citizens, nea verily angels, for the entire period outside the 80minutes per week they are highly paid thugs.

For example, who would have known that carousing on motorbikes, taking potshots at beer cans and posting selfies on Facebook were apparently traditional indigenous cultural events?

ESPN has obtained the English language rights to the Korean Baseball League and will start broadcasting them tomorrow. They’ll be broadcasting 6 regular season games each week, at 5:30 am ET Tuesday-Friday, 4 am ET on Saturday and 1 am ET on Sundays on ESPN2

I guess you can record them and watch at a normal time.
