Judge Judy Question

I’m told litigants on her program receive an “appearance” fee. Anyone know how much this is?

I've read, but can't confirm, that the "fund" is $5000, and they deduct the winner's award from the total and then split the remaining amount.

They also get airfare, hotels, meals, etc.

I worked on that show sitting in the audience enough times, and this is the persistent rumor that we (as lowly peons) always heard. I never heard it from directly from an actual producer, but I did hear it from a PA who I'd have a beer with every once in a blue moon.

Edit: I've also heard that it was $5000 for both the plaintiff and defendant, and whomever won got the award amount out of the loser's pile. But again, that just came from other audience members who may or may not actually know.

One more thing I just thought of, I also worked on Judge Joe Brown (both sets were in the same studio) so maybe one did it one way and the other the other way? Though being the same production company, I wouldn't think so. But like I said, the actual producers never talked to us, just the PA's.
