a) he put the gun in his pants pocket grip down/muzzle up so it fired upward.

b) he was wearing a jacket, went to put the gun in an upper pocket, and it went off.

On March 27, at the age of 95, Michel Bacos died.

He was the pilot of the Air France plane hijacked to Entebbe in 1976. When the hijackers told him and the flight crew to leave with the non-Jewish hostages, Bacos, once a Free French fighter, told them "no". He and his crew remained with the Jewish hostages until the Israeli forces rescued them.

It must have been so tempting, to leave. But this guy and his crew toughed it out.

One quarter through the year, and it seems like a low-scoring year so far. Anyone know how it compares to other years?

I didn't even make a list this year. All of my picks from 2018 are still alive. Only three of my picks from 2017 have died. Heck, my 2016 list was a redo of my list from 2010, and only half of them have died.

Based on my experience, this year is same old same old.

I had the wrong Hispanic singer in my list.

Quote:
Argentines Sadly Receive the Death of Alberto Cortez

Buenos Aires, April 4 He died this Thursday in Madrid, far from his homeland, but Argentina cries to one of its most beloved artists and poets, Alberto Cortez, whom they thank for ''his poems made songs''.

Death surprised him when he was about to perform a series of concerts in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico he was forced to suspend. He was active at the age of 79, doing what he was most passionate about.

With more than 40 albums back, a Grammy award for musical excellence, four books and two films, the author of Cuando un amigo se va( When a Friend Goes Away)is venerated in his homeland, where Argentines say goodbye with heartfelt words and thank him for his brilliance.

The television, radio and digital media of this southern nation dedicate ample space to the musician, creator of pieces such as Castillos en el aire (Castles in the Air) or Como el ave solitaria (Like a Lonely Bird), to name a few.

No me llames extranjero

No me llames extranjero
Que es una palabra triste
Que es una palabra helada
Huele a olvido y a destierro

...

No me llames extranjero, mírame bien a los ojos,
Mucho más allá del odio, del egoísmo y el miedo,
Y veras que soy un hombre, no puedo ser extranjero
No me llames extranjero.

=====================

Don't call me an alien
It's a sad word
It's an icy word
It smells like oblivion and exile
..

Don't call me alien, look me in the eyes,
Far beyond hate, selfishness and fear,
And you will see that I am a man, I can't be an alien,
Don't call me alien.

Say hello to Facundo for me, Alberto..

Need A Ruling on Mandamin

Likely slipped through the cracks, but with recent scoring updates, I'd like to request a ruling on Josephine Mandamin. OP below, there haven't been any new national obits, just more local coverage.

She's got a Wiki page, which is more than Joey Feek had when she got sick.

I have no way to know if you are correct with that but she was certainly known as part of a country music duo. Their first two albums were in the top 10 on the country charts long before she got sick. Niche for sure but a lot less niche than some who have been worth points in the past.

The CBC reported it, along with others, nobody challenged it, so I rule it is valid. Congrats.

I should note that Rory & Joey had a wiki page, but Joey didn't have one herself when news broke. She did a couple of days later. I guess that's one of the perks of living in Nashville and reading the paper.

Of course, every one else then stole my ringer.

I did a Search this Thread for 'Wolfe', and the only hits were (a) your posts, and (b) where Andrew 21 pointed out that you'd listed him twice. So while our Death Mistress has the final word, I'd say it's looking good for you.

If I weren't so sad that Gene Wolfe died, I'd be pretty happy right now. Still, his loss is too great.
