This must be one of the biggest upsets in NHL playoff history, no one sane had the Jackets in a sweep.

Damn. Epic choke.

Almost wrote "Caps-worthy choke," but not even the Caps got swept out the first round, ever.

Fucking amazing conclusion from the Blue Jackets. 7-3! Epic collapse from Tampa Bay!

And now it looks like the Islanders are about to send the Pens packing...

ETA: Sent! Two giant sweeps to start the post-season!

The only good thing about this is that at least I'm not a Tampa fan. THAT I think would hurt even worse.

Now all I can hope is that Washington doesn't win again. (Excuse me while I go drown myself in a keg of Iron City)

Well Svetch and Ovetchkin have been getting chippy the whole series.

We'll see what we can do. although I do giggle that Brock McGinn has more playoff goals this year than Crosby or Jeff Skinner.

Guess Tortorella's job is safe, at least for 2019-20.

Yeah and I bought in to the prank! Now down 3-1, it looks like yet another postseason epic fail for San Jose. For 10+ seasons San Jose looks strong in the regular season but only to come up like playoff pansies and wimps, out-muscled, out-skated, out-desired, out-hustled, out-smarted, and out-coached.

Fucking pansies, the San Jose Shirks.

It reminds me of the movie, The Natural, when the loser team brings in the sports psychology to lecture their players on Losing Is A Disease — “The mind is a strange thing, and you must begin by asking it, ‘What is losing?’ Losing, is a disease...”https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WN-aCYVVtyo

Fucking pansies, the San Jose Shirks.

Strong start for the Stars. The power play shows up early and often. 3 goals on 5 shots.

Yeah, they were talking on the radio about it being the worst crater in around 100 years of pro team sports due to it being a sweep in a multi-game series of a team that tied a record for wins in the league. I totally expected them to win at least one game. For Tampa to be swept is just stunning.

Wow, yeah. That's where the power play was! The only thing to be sad about in that game for a Stars fan was Bishop's shutout being taken away by a pretty gigantic screen.

RE: Whether deadline trades make a difference. Zuccarello has certainly made a difference in the Stars' offense. Even if he didn't get to help a lot with the playoff push, in the one game he played with us before being injured he scored, then broke his arm blocking a shot. If you're going to get injured, that's the kind of game I'd want you to have. He's scored in all of our playoff wins, two of which were won by a single goal. If nothing else, he's added enough depth to make our second line a real threat. I'd say he's been indispensable.

Nine teams finished with 100 or more points this season. Two of them, Tampa and Pittsburgh, were swept out of the first round. Calgary and San Jose could likely be out in five games. Boston or Toronto will be gone by the end of the round. And it is 50-50 for Nashville.

The Islanders have played well so far and the Caps are looking okay. It is a tough first round on the higher seeds and that is what make the Stanley Cup playoffs so great.

I see former Cap backup goalie Philipp Grubauer is doing well in Colorado. Wish they could have held onto him, but they couldn't afford him, and he deserved a chance to start somewhere.

Those dog-house Flames lose their last two by giving up late (within last 3 min.) leads.

The Washington Capitals are suddenly looking like the Caps of old. Game 5 is a strongly suggested win, there is no way they should be even with the Canes.

Yet another Canadian team blowing a lead and losing, the lackey krokodil junkies Calgary Flames blew a 2-0 lead and lose 3-2 with, oh, about 15 seconds left in regulation.

- signed, Canadian who pulls for other Canadian teams in the play-offs when his team (in my case teams) don't even qualify for the play-offs for, like, the thousandth trillionth time.

I can see Bolts fans next season just simply rolling their eyes as their team amasses yet another killer season. Maybe TBL should have a comparatively mediocre one, you know, for shits and giggles. Who knows - maybe a better play-off performance as a result.

As an Islanders fan, I would love to see the Caps and the Flames both taken down. Fewer speed bumps on the Isles inevitable march to a fifth Cup!

The only sad part for me is that I only get to see the Isles play 12 more times this season.

Will the Sharks rise from the dead on Easter Sunday?

To use a baseball comparison, the 2012 SF Giants did it twice in the playoffs on their way to winning it all:
  • down 0-2 games to the heavily-favored Cincinnati Reds and Dusty Baker, the Giants swept the last 3 games to win the NLDS Series, 3-2
  • down 3-1 games to the STL Cardinals, the Giants swept the last 3 games to win the NLCS Series, 4-3

And then they swept the heavily-favored Detroit Tigers in the World Series, 4-0 games to win the championship!

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.

Steve Yzerman just named GM of Red Wings. I don't think there's anyone who didn't anticipate this. Still, it's official now and what a great hiring by the Wings.

It looks like Winnipeg are playing rope-a-dope or something. 6 shots after 2 periods in an elimination game.

Definitely the Islanders. First of all, no one thought they should be here -- they lost their best player from last season, and ended doing much better. Second. they have no real stars -- it's a true underdog story with team play leading to their success. Third, when they win the cup, you can say, "Well, Pittsburgh would have been there, had they not lost to the eventual winners."

Countering that, the Islanders fan in this thread is an asshole, talking about only seeing them 12 more times; he's probably going to put some lame, colorful thing at the end of his post. But, that's not the Islanders' fault!

Go Islanders!!

That’s unfortunate for Oshie. In the replays they’re calling it a hit on an unsuspecting player, but Oshie couldn’t (or, shouldn’t) have been unsuspecting because he’d already received a slight check and there were two Hurricanes nearby pursuing the puck with Oshie (including Foegele).

Yup. Still got a game 7 to go. It's no surprise that Boston, with their backs to the wall, wouldn't come out flying.
Next game, with both teams' backs against the wall will most certainly be entertaining.

But you know what the history is in that situation between Leafs and Bruins!

The fact is that Boston were just clearly the better team today. It remains to be seen if they will be on Tuesday. My money is on Boston. Looking forward to it. Any Game 7 is always fun!

And if Boston does prevail, your original prediction of Boston in 6 was close.

Woah, what a way for the VGK/SJ series to go to 7 games, with a shortie in OT by SJ after Vegs dominated most of the game. That's gonna be a game 7 to watch.

Boom - done.

Curious, though, if Stars/Preds and Caps/Canes also go 7. With a never-done-before 8th seed defeat of 1st seeds in both conferences, I suppose anything'll happen now.

If the Caps remember how they won the last game ("We're bigger than you"), they can literally hit their way into the second round in Game 6, but neither team seems to be able to win a road game.
