Long time in the MMP

I'm sitting here, way too late, doing a first past thru the pics I took while away this weekend (traversing NY for snow & ice) when an email pops up - "Transaction receipt from <something running related>" Is it a scam email of some type? Is it a belated receipt from one of the races that I did this weekend? Nope, I know who I registered thru for them. Open it up & it's the CC receipt from a race lottery that I entered. I was sweating this one out a bit more than other years as it's a big year for me; my 10th time doing this race which means I don't need to sweat it out anymore! As a 10-year participant, I'm now grandfathered in! As long as I apply, I get in.

Every first Sun in May, I get to join 40,000+ running buds for a trek down Broad St.

In other news, it's a wonderful Spring day - full team reports for Spring Training!

Pre-hijack question of the week: What have you done for a long time?

First! It's good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin' Y'all! Up and caffeinatin'. *YAWN* 'Tis 65 Amurrkin out and cloudy (dark) with a predicted "high" of 62 for the day. Also 'tis been rainyish off and on overnight. Today is spiff da cave day. Tonight is men's night over to the church house so steaks are marinatin' and beer is chillin'. Always a good time.

I don't have any particular event I have done for a long time anymore. For about twenty years, I always took a vacation the same week in July to go meet up with some friends. We no longer do that and haven't for ten years. I still communicate with 'em and get to see some of 'em throughout the year but no more annual thing.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y'all!

Good morning! Roxy woke me around 4 or so, but I lazed around till 6-ish. I'm now in the office. Lots to do, but I'm hoping to make it a short day, leaving some stuff for the rest of the week.

My longest-lasting hobby-like activity is knitting and crocheting. One of my mom's friends taught me to knit when I was in Jr high. Then I taught myself to crochet, and I've learned lots of different stitches and patterns from books. I still have the first afghan I ever made - it was an exercise in not reading the pattern correctly and not buying enough yarn. Plus it's a mix of wool and acrylic, so it shrunk weirdly. But Higgs likes it - it's been a dog afghan for at least 5 dogs over the years.

OK, time to get some work done. Happy soggy Moanday!

doggio, thanks, I'll leave about 0700 so I hit Nashvlile about 0900, when hopefully the rush hour traffic will be at their offices. Looks like a good driving day, cool to cold but clear.

Spidey, congrats on the acceptance and being 'grandfathered' in. You plan to do this race until your are a grandfather, right?

Done for a long time? Hmmm. Not counting the routine stuff I do daily/weekly/monthly, like shopping/cleaning/etc., I've coached youth soccer steadily since 2003 (and off and on since 1978).

Happy Moonday!

It's 36 degrees and cloudy outside.

I feel like hell. I went to bed early at 9:30, woke at 1:30, and didn't fall back to sleep until after 6, only to be awakened by the alarm at 6:30.
I foresee a nap after irk, but I really don't have time to nap.

Happy Travels MetalMouse.

Home early, as I went in very early. We had a big breakfast thing for the library staff, and the library is otherwise closed today. So only seven and a half hours.

My sister called last night, she is home now, she and my BIL having made the trip from Colorado in just a day. She managed to endure the discomfort as she really wanted to rest in her own home.

It is only eighteen degrees even now. Tomorrow we are supposed to get more snow. Blurf

Hubby can’t get an appointment until Firday. Of course, this is not life threarening just aggravating as it does not feel normal to him.

I have laundry running and have cleaned the kitchen. I don’t know what else I shall get into today. I need to clean out and organize the linen closet as I have new towels with no room for them but there is plenty of stuff in there that can go bye bye. So; I guess I shall work on the linen closet and wash the new towels.

Glad Sis is home Cupcakes. There’s no place like home.

Way too many things. One thing that seems genetic in my family over the generations is that we show up reliably for EVERYTHING. I write it off to our nomadic days when showing up every year is the way you scored the good hunting and forage. I've been a volunteer instructor for the PAGC for more than 35 years, I've run the Cook Forest event for 17 years, I've participated in some colonial events for more than 40 years year in and year out. And I'm married ------ at least my wife tells me. I think what I enjoy is seeing new faces come along over the years of doing the same things and seeing them grow. The one motorcycle rally started with maybe 60 of us at the one dealership parking lot; last year it was like 10k people and maybe 5k of bikes. Seeing stuff like that just hits my fun-nerve for some reason

I'm a long-time sewer. (As in someone who sews, not as in a pipe carrying sewage.) I do some needlepoint, but I like to make things with the sewing machine. I made a cool table cloth recently, I made almost all of the curtains in my house (with the exception of the large window in the living room and the matching drapes in the dining room). I like to make simple clothing, purses, etc. I'm by no means extraordinarily skilled, but I sewing things.

More and more and more at irk... I have instructions to write, but no subject matter experts to tell me how to do these things. I'm a writer, not an engineer. Give me rough idea as to what to do, I can fill in the blanks, format it, add safety warnings, all that jazz.

Two of the babe engineers came in for a short time today. I'm about to leave - I think 6 hours on my day off is enough.

Finished irk, made lunch for everybody except the cat. He's picky so no sense in making anything for him.
My son wants some help with an ethics assignment. He turned in his assignment but now he has to respond to two classmates.
I wish there was a way to block certain people in the class, there is one woman who is so annoying. For the introduction assignment they had to write at least 400 words about themselves. My son struggles to come up with that much stuff, and it appears that most of his classmates do as well. Not this woman, she wrote a damn essay. They had to respond to two classmates, she responded to about six. People she has taken classes with before.
Okay, all cool, except now they are into real classwork. She writes a damn essay again, and responds to many people, but it's not classwork related responses. She treats the message board like a damn social club. I hope the professor smacks her down for it.

oops - that musta been Freudian - I meant BABY engineers, tho, frankly I wouldn't have considered them babes... well, one of them is kinda cute, but the other is tall, skinny, and geeky, definitely not a babe.

Anyway, I'm home. Gotta decide what we're having for supper. PB&J??

Howdy Y'all! Da cave is spiffed and in just a little while I shall head over to the church house for men's night and to take care of a couple of things JW wise. One thing that I had problems figurin' out was where to order a certain type of wood floor cleaner. Finally learned that Home Despot carries said wood floor cleaner, so yay for that.

CupCakes yay for sis gettin' home. Home is the best place to recuperate.

MetalMouse you're on the road I reckon, but safe travels there and back. Glad you're goin' to check on the bro.

Flytrap The ethics of helpin' someone with a paper on ethics would make a good study. I suggest you apply for a grant.

Juliet this is teh intartoobz. No one knows if you're a sewer on teh intartoobz.

MOOOOOOM FTR, I've know a few geeky men I considered babes.

Laterz!

Evenin' all! Good news about the sister, Cupcakes!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes- and it was on Saturday, so you weren't late Juliet, everyone else was early (or almost everyone, depending on how you look at it with the time zones)

Was a fun weekend, but involved too much driving, and I was completely uncontactable- no internet, no phone signal. It wasn't all that remote, there were several pubs in walking distance- a theory I tested- but it's very hilly. I went straight to the irk placement, and only got back an hour ago. The placement's still going well, but I'm looking forward to having a day off off. It's now 15 days since I had a day that wasn't all filled with stuff. Some nice stuff, but still... I need to catch up on housework and things. Only 5 more days 'til I get time.

Every time I see JW I think Jehovah's Witness...

As for your attraction to geeky men, I learned long ago that we all find different things attractive. I remember when a girlfriend and I were people watching, and she commented on the hotness of a guy walking by. I just didn't see it. But I guess it's a good thing we're attracted by different things, or a very small minority of attractive people would be besieged!

Ham steak for supper. That's as far as planning has gone.

Probably okay.

He wants me to read through the stuff and help him decide where to reply. He bounces ideas off of me until he finds one he likes and takes it from there.
It's a pain though, because of the proliferic one, and there are several that, even though this is a 300 level class, write as though they are still in middle school. It's hard to reply to somebody who can't write a cohesive, coherant paragraph.
Some people write so much there is nothing to add, some are so convoluted you don't know where to start.
Then after he writes it, I will proofread it for him.

I think that bouncing ideas off of me, and my proofreading his stuff is fair.
He'd probably be doing the same with his friends/classmates if he was on campus.

I was ready to beat him over the head though, he kept spelling counselor as consoler.

Shady, I get off early because I work a split day.
We are independent contractors, so we choose our own hours. Mostly everybody wants to work the daytime 9-5 type hours, but the company needs coverage 24/7. One, we are in competition with each other for the calls. We get paid for the calls we take, not the hours we work. It is better to work when there is not so much competition. Two, every now and then we will get an email from the company saying they need coverage for such and such hours, and while they realize that we are independent contractors and can choose our own hours, if they don't receive the coverage, they will hire more contractors. Then we have even more competition for the available work.
Therefore, I work in the morning, and again in the evening.

What I should do is log in as soon as I get up in the morning and stay logged in all day, with a hour or so off for taking a shower and eating, but I get grumpy being chained to the phone all day.
I'll sit for a half hour with no calls, and as soon as I get up to do something the phone starts ringing.
Very annoying.

I slept all afternoon, so nothing got done.
I need to start dinner for my son. I'll be having leftovers, pork roast and cabbage.
We still haven't gotten groceries, I think we'll go Thorsday.
I don't know, I don't want to go at all.
I don't want to do anything. I get this way when I am stressed.

sari - I used to proofread FCD's work (heck, I still do) because he's a lousy speller and sometimes he's not as clear as he could be. When it's technical stuff, I try to point out what could be expressed better. He also tends to overuse certain words, and I catch that for him.

When he was in college, one of his professors accused him of having me write his assignments (the prof knew I taught there.) FCD blew up over that. I don't blame him. He may not spell well, but he usually expressed himself very well in writing.

Well, Roxy is about to go to bed. We're threatened with up to 4" of the evil white stuff on Weds. But there's a big ol' yellow piece of equipment in the back yard - the excavator will start tomorrow, then probably not be able to work again till Firday. But he'll start, so yay! Pics in FB for those who care.

Howdy Y'all! Home from men's night over to the church house. We had a good crowd tonight and as always, 'twas fun. We solve all the problems of the world. The next step is gettin' somebody to listen to us. Tonight we had a beer from here, the Skywater to be exact. It is marketed as a beer for the commoner. That appealed to me so that's why I chose that beer. EYP, OYKW and I toasted ourselves with, "Here's to us the commonest of all commoners!" A good time was had by all.

Good Mornin' Y'all! Up and caffeinatin'. *YAWN* 'Tis 56 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 57 and cloudy for the day. We also have a pollen alert. I do not need to be alerted about pollen. I am very aware. Today I shall accomplish laundry as well as stuff over to the church house. I must needs go to Sam's and Home Despot for a couple of items needed. Fortunately both are located right next to each other. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don't judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

TB this is the Chinese course you found online, right? I am curious to know how an online language course would work. Will you at some point need to do some course work in a for real classroom?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I must purtify and don appropriate bein' about the public attire. Why must life be so difficult!

Happy Tuesday Y'all!

In the office, because a certain daughter of mine had a brain fart. I need to be off on Thursday, not today.

We're threatened with 2-4" of snow tomorrow, followed by much rain. It'll be interesting to see what happens with this excavation in the yard. I expect today the trees will come down and some earth-moving will happen. I also know much dirt will need to be brought in. The coming days will be interesting.

Happy Tuesday!

Honestly, I'd love to ship off some of my snow. I can't see over the snowbanks at the end of the driveway when I'm backing out. I have to wait up by the house to see the traffic coming, then gun it out into the street when I have a clearing. Not the safest method...

Juliet - you've got kids, don't you? Make them earn their keep - have them check for traffic!

Very busy morning - back to it!!!

Romeo Jr. can barely see out the window. Juliet Jr. could be helpful, but only if I'm hanging out into the street already. Those snowbanks are closing in on 6 feet tall at the end of the driveway.

Waiting for the plumber
I hope it is a simple matter of snaking out the line but I am so scared it is going to involve digging up the yard and replacing pipe
He can also look at the dishwasher and if it is just the intake line he can fix that too.
If not, then I need to get a separate repair person for that.

No, Juliet - I meant send 'em out into the road with a hand-held stop sign! It'll build character!

Maybe that's why my Mother-Of-The-Year award hasn't arrived yet???

If you can provide pictures, preferably nude, we'll be happy to provide our expert opinions?

The plumber is on his way
YAY!
I hope it is only a few hundred dollars, not $10,000 or whatever it costs to dig up the front? yard.

Fingers crossed for you Sari. The joys of home ownership.

Speaking of home I am almost at the point where I am going to start tidying up my space and pack it in for the day.

WTF???!!!!!!

He can't fix it because the clog is on the neighbor's side and she isn't home so I can't ask her if he can go into her house to fix it.

Who the hell built duplexes with shared plumbing????!!!!

So he just left, he found the clean out thing outside but the clog is between the house and the street and he can't do anything without access to the neighbor's basement.

WTF???!!!!

I tried getting ahold of her, but she isn't home and she isn't answering her cell phone.

I'm going to buy some main cleaner and see if that works.

We've got a Big-Ass Hole in our back yard - photos on FB. FCD said they took 4 truckloads of stumps and trunks, and there are several trunks still sitting in the yard. Nothing will happen tomorrow, thanks to the snow and subsequent rain, but maybe they'll be able to start bringing in the fill material by Firday.

Supper will be the ham steak I've been thinking about making for the last week. Sides will be some sort of veggie, and mac-n-cheese, and I'll cook the ham in pineapple chunks. Sounds healthy, yes?
