The summer has passed so let's add to the roster:

Ant-Man: Michael Douglas
Avengers: Age of Ultron: Julie Delpy

No new additions from the most recent Fantastic Four debacle.

The upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE flick (starring Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, as mentioned upthread) now has both Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the cast.

Doing a little digging, and it turns out winner Octavia Spencer had a bit part in the first Spider-Man.

And with the SAG nominations out, we might very well add Idris Elba (Thor) and Rachel McAdams (the upcoming Doctor Strange) to the list, if their nominations are mirrored by the Academy.

It always tickled me that the X-Men franchise had two Oscar laureates and neither one played Xavier or Magneto.

Bumping the thread because CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR featured Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard and Oscar winner Marisa Tomei.

Jim Rash (winner for THE DESCENDANTS) also had a bit part in CA:CW.

Also, per my last post, McAdams joins the list (though Elba does not).

And Lupita Nyong'o and Forest Whitaker are on the cast list for BLACK PANTHER.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who played Quicksilver in Age of Ultron) won a Golden Globe for his role in Nocturnal Animals, so tomorrow we'll learn if he gets a nod for it from the Oscars.

Mahershala Ali has won the most critic awards in the Supporting Actor category, and is almost assured a nod for Moonlight. He's a regular on Luke Cage currently.

Ruth Negga has a long shot chance of getting an Actress nomination for Loving and played Raina on Agents of SHIELD for 3 seasons.

Well, Taylor-Johnson didn't make it, but Ali and Negga did, as well as Andrew Garfield, who played Spidey twice.

Also Michael Keaton is going to be the Vulture in Spider-man Homecoming.

I saw the heading, so asked my 17 and 19 year old sons. They pretty much got everybody from the movies.

In a bizarre turn, the Ken Watanabe in the just-released Thor: Ragnarok is a different person by that name, so he's out. But if you've seen it, you know that
SPOILER:
Matt Damon
makes an uncredited cameo, so he's in!

Is it sad that as soon as I saw that seen, I thought to myself "I need to post to that topic!"

I also went and looked up if
SPOILER:
Sam Neil

was nominated for an Oscar.

Let's also give props to the first Director nomination for Guillermo Del Toro (Blade 2). He joins Kenneth Branagh (Thor) and Ang Lee (Hulk) as the only people who have directed a Marvel movie and received an Oscar nod for Best Director.

Should half a point go to Taika Waititi?

(Still, though: all the possibilities! Spider-Man, written and directed by Woody Allen! Moon Knight, by way of the Coen Brothers! She-Hulk, by Quentin Tarantino!)

Honorable mentions go to these directors of Marvel movies who are Oscar nominees/winners in other categories

Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) - Best Foreign Language Film winner (Tsotsi, South Africa)
Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) - Best Visual Effects winner (Raiders of the Lost Ark)
James Mangold (The Wolverine) - Best Adapted Screenplay nominee for this year's Logan
Tim Miller (Deadpool) - Best Animated Short nominee
Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) - Best Live Action Short nominee
Joss Whedon (The Avengers) - Best Original Screenplay nominee (Toy Story)

Oh, and we might as well mention that the Marvel Cinematic Universe* is officially the movie franchise with the most Oscar nominations in history without a win.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2 nods)
Iron Man (2)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (1)
Doctor Strange (1)
Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (1)
Iron Man 2 (1)
Iron Man 3 (1)
Marvel's The Avengers (1)

10 nominations total so far (8 for Best Visual Effects)

*Wiki says Raimi's Spider-Man movies are outside this universe. The 2nd installment did win Best Visual Effects

George Lucas produced Howard the Duck. Can we count that one?

Men in Black is a Marvel property so we can add Spielberg, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Rip Torn.

Bumping because, to err on the side of caution, VENOM stars Tom Hardy along with Michelle Williams, plus — I’m not sure this is really a spoiler — Woody Harrelson.

Well, TLJ was already in (the first Captain America film) and if you add the MIB sequels, that expands to Emma Thompson, too.

And neither Spielberg nor Lucas directed a Marvel film, which was the threshold we were looking at for the other list.

So the Oscar nominations come out later this month and it seems that very likely new additions will include

A STAR IS BORN's Sam Elliott (Hulk, Ghost Rider)
CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?'s Richard E. Grant (Logan)
