Why can't we have the good Rolleyes back?

For the Peanut Gallery: For many years the Rolleyes smiley/emoticon/emoji was a sickly green face with properly rolled eyes. A few years back it was replaced with , which does not convey disgust and dismissal of someone's statement. Instead it is cute.

I am often disgusted and dismissive and I want the old one back. Why can't I have it?

The worse one is the "cool" emoticon, which to me does not show in any way that i think your post was "cool".

I think the intent is to show that I, as the poster, am cool, but I don't need any pictorial reassurance that I'm cool.

I've got a better idea. Keep it, don't relabel it, but remember the meaning in your head! That way you can get around the prohibition about wishing death on Dopers completely legally and within the rules.

I agree about the need for a Rolleyes that actually looks like eye-rolling skepticism, instead of .

That one looks like a happy little person who's just had a really happy thought! Which is nice for him (or her), of course. But for the poster hoping to convey scorn or disdain or incredulity....it's useless.

Old rolleyes looks as though he farted in the grocery aisle and blamed it on granny.
Yep, he's got something to hide.

Youre mistaken, maam. Its the current blue-tinged rolleyes who looks guilty of cutting the cheese.

The rolleyes smiley is the worst smiley and should be embarrassingly weak looking. If a rolleyes smiley has to exist at all, it should make people who use it sorry they tried and should reflex badly on them.

Rolleyes is not a rebuttal. Just say what you mean.

If you use BigT's SDMB Old Smileys script, you can have the old smileys back.

I'm with you, OP. The old rolleyes expressed contempt with a mere 128 pixels.

Nah, it only works locally. Sorry. It was mainly designed for people who don't want to see the new ones. I personally don't even use it, because I prefer seeing my posts as others would see them.

And the answer to your question in the OP is basically that they'd have to get one of the tech guys to bring it back, and none of them consider that a priority. We tried to get them to, but they ignored it.

There is one alternative: If Ed ever gets back to fixing up the Theme, they could change the Smileys for everyone that way. In fact, that is exactly what my script does. It's a bit of a kludge, but it's faster than using JavaScript, which has to wait on the smiley to exist and then go through and replace every single one.

There are a few icons you can cut-and-paste without need for any Monkey. (Do these display properly on your machine?)

"Maybe you need a cup of coffee!

How do you do that? Oh, I see. Eye Roll isn't visible on my system but Monkey is.

ETA: Too much work to be a solution.

I can't get the TamperMonkey thing to work. (I'm assuming that if it were working, the face would be green and frownier). Installed on both Safari and Chrome, no workee in either, including full quit and restart of browser and return to this page with forced reload.

Since we're submitting personal orders, I need a "puke" emoticon to show just how sickening something is to me. I also need a "red-faced-devil-smiling-devilishly" emoticon to show I'm being impish.

The thing is, we're not supposed to be rude to one another (a good rule), and a green face puking all over your post would kind of be a tad on the rude side. LOL

According to my mother, I am the reason no-one gets to have anything nice.

The emoticon I always reach for that we don't have is a Standing Ovation which is why I sometimes fall back on the old "cheer" one ------ \(*o*)/

Yes, it will fork a copy of reality and show you what you want to see instead of what the rest of the world experiences. From the safety of your bubble you will further entrench your own views and reinforce your own prejudices until you finally lose the ability to cope with the outside world as it is and emerge, Krikkit-like, to destroy everything that doesn't fit into your worldview. Just like what happens to you on Facebook or other social media.

But reality is overrated anyway.

Enjoy,
Steven

I'm Jewish and I liked it, but it offended another Jewish guy, so I must sadly agree in doing away with it.
