I don't get it. What is the context? Is "broken ankles" a sport meme? Is there a basketball player known for breaking someone's ankle in some game?

A wicked crossover dribble is said to break the defender's ankles.

Quote:
Ankle-Breaking Crossover: Any crossover that causes the defensive player to stumble, and fall on the ground. Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard, are all point guards in today's NBA that are known to cause defenders to become off balance with a crossover, which is colloquially known as an ankle breaker.

I dont hate the "I'm 84 and I wanna go home" commercials - largely because of "they call me DJ Nana." I used to rave and seeing a little old lady dop sick beats would make me oh so happy. Maybe in my old age I shall be DJ Nana.

I normally don't pay much attention to commercials when they are showing, but the new Progressive Big Jim commercial is a hoot. I like it when the animation fades out and we see Jamie is imagining it in his head as he sings the ending very off-key. Then he meekly gets on the phone looking for someone to help him. I like it!

Little Caesars doesn't run this anymore, but this still makes me laugh. It's so stupid it's funny.

Group Session - Progressive Insurance. People in a group therapy session who are 'turning into their parents'. ('Why is the door open, are we trying to air condition the whole neighborhood?' ) - makes me laugh every time! It kind of reminds me of the Simpsons episode where men went to 'Dad Camp' to learn how to play catch, teach a kid to ride a bike, and other dad-type things.

No, the best one is where he's feeding his wife at the dinner table.

But defense does win championships!

It is creepy - but it's intentionally creepy and it's pretty well calibrated. I like those commercials.

That one doesn't do much for me, but I do enjoy the Mr. Billingsly commercial. The look on the spy's face as he's forced to endure a powerpoint presentation says it all.

Killing me softly

I recently saw this commercial for Oxi Clean, with a lady who lives on a farm with horses and two dobies! That's me! Well, sort of. We have a farm with two ponies and two dobes and I do laundry. I even have some Oxi Clean already, but I can go buy more.

My new favorite commercial from Capri Sun - just wait for her answer to "do you know how to use that thing?". It's both scary and hilarious. And I really want to know why she has a cast on her arm....

The "Just OK is not OK" series is pretty clever. My favorite is the babysitter.
"What's your wifi password?"
"It's the names of our kids."
"Well, that's not helpful."

I liked the Geico ad with Maxwell the pig holding pinwheels out a window and squealing "WHEEEE! WHE WHE WHE WHEEEEEE!". I liked it so much that my mom brought a pinwheel with her when she and dad came to get me at the airport one time and I did, in fact, hold it out the window and scream "WHEEEE! WHE WHE WHE WHEEEEEE!"

I think Dad cringed, and Mom shook her head but was very very amused. I had fun.

It's a little old, but every time the Taco John's Taco Tuesday commercial is shown (only on Tuesdays!) I have to watch. The plain-looking girl is a pleasant surprise, but I always laugh at the talking taco: "What day is today?" "Tuesday!"

The one commercial I'll always watch is Captain Obvious and the pug bongos. Especially the long-suffering expression on the face of that middle pug.

I finally actually watched and discovered that the latest Stella Artois commercial is fiendishly clever. The best thing about it is that it lets the viewer discover the joke. My wife didn't understand until I explained it.

Plus they go against basic advertising principles by mispronouncing the product's name (the second time). And the final line -- "The Dude imbibes" is great.

I don't like State Farm for what they tried to do to my dad's policy but they consistently have good commercials. Much better than GEICO's idiocy or Progressive's jackhole box.

Those are the best Robo's been since the very first movie.

I like the commercials for some tax-prep service touting their live people available to help. Not the service, or the commercials in general but the nerdified cute but snarky girl in most of them.

I like the K-9 Advantix commercial with dogs around the camp fire.

It was was all I could do to restrain myself at the vet yesterday when I picked up my dog's heartworm pills. As she explained that they're good against fleas and ticks, I really wanted to ask "what about mosquitooooooooooooooos?" but fought the urge.

I can't tell if I hate this or I think it's genius because it has me singing their made up jingle. Also, it captures 80's sitcoms perfectly.

I would have felt that too.

The other day I saw one of my dogs running around with something he'd found in the yard, and had to say, "Soresto, Soresto, Soresto!"

I always wonder how the cook just knows what KIND of pie to get. But you’re right, Geico’s been making some great commercials lately.

So has that insurance company (All-state?) with Dean Winters—protecting you from mayhem like me.
