Spam Anniversary

I'd like to commemorate 17,857 days since the premiere of Monty Python's Spam skit with a poll.

I've never had Spam.

But I think it was one of the ingredients in the haggis I had: Haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, Spam, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis, haggis and haggis.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. So would my wife and some of her friends...oh yes and Captain Johnson.

Spam and eggs, no bacon - don't let the bacon compete with Spam!

About 40 miles from where I live is Austin, Minnesota, home of the Spam museum. They have the Spam skit playing on a continuous loop. Hormel could have fought about the rights, but I give them credit for embracing it whole-heartedly. I recommend a visit.

Do they have Scrapple in the UK? "Spam" fits the meter of the song better, but scrapple is the better breakfast food.

The Brits really struggled with rationing and such for quite a while after WWII. A lot of people couldn't afford decent food and Spam became a substitute for real meats. Spam as a basic foodstuff continued long after things got a bit better. So using it in a sketch in that era was harkening back to those earlier times.

Thanks, ftg, for an interesting slant on the sketch. My only beef with Spam is the high sodium content, which would probably kill me in a month.

And finally, a wafer-thin mint. It's only a tiny little thin one.

Alright, this thread's gotten very silly. Very silly indeed. You're all under arrest for participating in a silly thread, and for ending every thread by just having a policemen come in and arrest everyone... hey, wait a minute...

Identify this quote's movie:

Spam!

You bring a can opener?

No, I guess I didn't.

Then don't knock it, it's got its own key.

It's required eating here in Hawaii. 20 different varieties (wild guess). Costco/Sams have pallets of the different varieties (not just a few cans). A buck or two at most convenience stores. Wife makes killer version, spam browned in teriyaki sauce, scrambled egg slices to match the spam, layered with the rice in the musabi press, along with nori (seaweed sheets) to help the packaging and griping. I have to eat it fresh 'cause the grandchildren don't allow any leftovers.

My kids are huge fans of simple spam kimbap. Roasted seaweed, with some rice spread on it, wrapped around a narrow finger of spam. Served cold.
