2 o'clock this morning, I woke up with Loudon Wainwright III's Uptown going through my head. Took me an hour to get back to sleep.

This morning I had three thoughts in my head:

Who else wakes up at 2 o'clock in the morning with Loudon Wainwright III's Uptown in their head?

Who else knows the words to Wainright's Uptown?

Who has ever even heard Loudon's Uptown?

The local PBS station aired an old two-part version of Wuthering Heights a week or so ago. Watched the first part last night. Sarah Lancashire as Nelly!

So I have Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights running thru my head.

Yep. Earworm hell again.

Only you, I'm far more likely to wake up at 1:30 or 4:45.
Me, me, me. I seem to have a Wainwright affinity for the whole family's music.
Far more people than realize it.

"Don't Save Me" - Haim

Popped into my head during my shower this morning and has been playing intermittently all day.

Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight

I heard a song "Golden Blunders" last night by a group called The Posies I think. That led to it.

I think I know that song. One of his best.

Anyway ...

Gotta fix something about my Wuthering Heights post. I was puzzled by why I should remember that Kate Bush song so well. Hardly ever heard it back then and then not in decades. But I finally remembered: Pat Benatar covered it and that's on one of the albums on the SD card in my car stereo. So it's Pat's version, not Kate's that was running thru my head.

Better, bu still not a plus.

I was looking at some MTV award show clips and that made me curious to hear some more Lizzo.

Truth Hurts is fun to listen to. Until the only two lines you know get stuck in your head!

I think I'll go read the lyrics. Maybe being able to get past those two lines will finally get it out of my head.

"You'll Be Back" from Hamilton*. So many good songs in that show, but that one crushes all the others with its earworminess. Why couldn't it have at least been "Room Where it Happens"?

*For context: sung by King George to the revolting American colonists

We were watching the Country Music documentary an hour a night. So a ton of earworms out of that. But there's some "buts":

I'd get the "wrong" song stuck in my head. After the Cline part got Sweet Dreams instead of Crazy. Somehow got Hank Williams' Jambalaya in there at one point. Etc.

But then got to the last episode ... nada. Like I'm going to have a Garth Brooks or The Judds song stuck in my head. Says a lot about what happened with country music in that era.

Now that's all over and one, time for The Cars to re-enter my brain. My Best Friend's Girl.

It was a soft, sweet song from 1982 and I hadn’t heard it in many years. It came on the radio last week and I enjoyed it. I surprised myself with how much of the lyrics I still remembered. I sang along, and it was nice.

But as an earworm it’s driving me batshit crazy.

The song is What's Forever For?, by Michael Martin Murphey.

I dare you to listen. Yeah, I double-dog dare you.

Last week at the store the ambient oldies music included Weezer's Buddy Holly.

So I've been partying in my head like it's 1995* all week.

* Yeah, it came out in 94 but it was the Windows 95 CD that put it on the map.

Dominic Fike doing a live cover of Clairo's bags.

I like the original well enough, but here Fike adds a bunch of hooks and it makes it better.

The thread on heart recipes now has Sweet Jane in my head. And the Cowboy Junkies' version for some reason. Maybe because they mix up the lyrics and start with:

Anyones ever had a heart
And turn around and break it

But if you don't break it, how do you clean it per the advice given?

Made a mistake. Went to YouTube to see what a certain person was up to. And now I have a really persistent earworm.

A song by The Cure.

Friday I'm in Love.

Done Springsteen style.

By the Internet's favorite singing clown.

Sure clown's are scary. But the real problem is their earworms. That's a major social problem right there.

What's your current earworm?

I don't actually listen to music very often but I seem to constantly have an earworm running around in my head, often something I heard several days/weeks ago.

I've recently been binge watching Friends since it is my last chance to connect with the rest of the my generations zeitgeist before it moves off Netflix, and have had smelly cat running through my head non stop for the last two days. Since almost anything has got to be better than that, I welcome your earworms to drive out whats in my head.

"I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm"

Every year I pick a Christmas song of the year that becomes my theme for the holiday season. I had been thinking about "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" for a while, so over the weekend I decided to check out various versions online to see which one I preferred (Bette Midler won). Of course now the song keeps popping into my head at random moments.

I don't celebrate Christmas, so most of the songs I pick have no connection to the religious holiday, although I have included some traditional favorites.
