I want to be

Sometimes, when I hear “year of the cat”, I kinda want to be the protagonist of the song. Right up until the part about the patchouli that is. That is all. Thank you.

Sometimes when I hear the song What's New Pussycat I want to be someone who has never heard the song What's New Pussycat.

Well, I wanted to tell the protagonist in Chasing Amy to step aside when it became obvious he was making an utter hash of a really nice and rare opportunity.

Despite the OP's kind of dream state posting, I agree. It's a song that evokes a pleasant vision. I could handle the patchouli, just for the opportunity.

I could have lived Hollywood Nights. iw as a "Midwestern boy on his own", and hooked up with a rich girl. But I kept myself grounded. I missed the high, but I missed the getting dumped unceremoniously, too.

I lived "Your Momma Don't Dance (And Your Daddy Don't Rock & Roll). All the way through the drive-in, in fact.

Drive-IN? THAT’S why my gf and I got in so much trouble. We mis-remembered the lyric as saying “drive-THROUGH.”

come to think of it, it wasn’t that dark, either...

I want to be Shane and stay.

I want to be a hero of an anime harem comedy and totally avoid all those unbelievable cliches.

I want to be Kane and
SPOILER:
not spend my life obsessing about a present I didn't get when I was ten.

Do we really need to spoiler a film from 1941?

I think you're misremembering or misunderstanding.
SPOILER:
Rosebud is not a present he didn't get. It was a treasured childhood toy, and the last thing he was playing with before his parents sent him away for a "better" life. It represents the loss of childhood, innocence, and the start of a life whose value he is pondering on his deathbed.

Sometimes when I hear Bron-Y-Aur Stomp by Led Zeppelin, I want to take my dog for a walk.

Then I remember I don't have a dog.

So, do you want to be running for your life, little girl?

Or be doing it in the road? Being held in his armchair til you feel his disease? Or maybe crawl off to sleep in the bath (then wake to realize you're all alone)? Me, I used to be cruel to my woman... I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved.

Or do you just want to be the eggman?

Me? I'd love to stroll down Penny Lane.

Whenever I hear Rhiannon, I can picture myself flying through the cool, starry night, at one with nature, toying with mere mortals.

I want to be

... a lumberjack. Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia. The giant redwood, the larch, the fir, the mighty scots pine. The smell of fresh-cut timber! The crash of mighty trees! With my best girlie by my side, we'd sing ... sing ... sing.

I want to come down from Yellow mountain riding Wildfire, but still be alive and wearing long underwear and good heavy socks. But yeah, definitely leaving sod busting behind.

I think it would be fun to drive up Grapevine Hill passin' cars like they were standing still.

At least it would be fun up until they call my Pappy.

Interesting that this should come up - my wife and I went to see Al Stewart in Exeter, UK last Friday night. He was absolutely amazing. His voice is exactly the same, which is incredible as he is 74.

Yeah, that's what everyone says, but it's more likely to have been Kane babbling incoherently as his brain was dying. That's why the reporter at the end said maybe the word didn't mean anything.

After all, Kane didn't lose Rosebud. It was tossed into the trash fire at his mansion after Kane died.

I want to meet you in the country, in the summertime in England. I would love to spend a summer in England (down by Avalon), so I can relate.

I think you're overthinking it. What Rosebud represented was love. Kane felt his parents hadn't loved him because they sent him away. So he spent the rest of his life looking for somebody who would love him unconditionally.

This also shows that Charles Foster Kane was not just William Randolph Hearst. Hearst never lacked for maternal love; his mother doted on him and Hearst was fifty-five when she died.

It was Welles who lacked close affection as a child. His parents divorced, his father was an alcoholic, his older brother was institutionalized, and his mother died four days after Orson's ninth birthday. Welles would end up being sent off to boarding school. And the name of the man who became Welles' guardian after his father's death was Bernstein.

Kane was a combination of Hearst's public life and Welles' private life.
