By the way, if you hear of an extremely cranky old lady doing bad things to a lady with a walker and a big mouth on (or more likely under) the Route 17 bus, that would be me. She got strike 2 this morning.

She started to open her mouth again, saw the look on my face, and then thought better of it. Wise woman.

I was just looking forward to seeing his eyes open.

And yes, I am going in to work because it keeps me occupied and my co-workers are pretty darn nice (although I've decided not to share this with the whole place yet, just the people who need to know and HR).

And FCM, this is for you: I got a packet of stuff from a charity called Boys Ranch (never heard of them, certainly never sent them money, didn't even know that's where boys came from), but among the address labels, notepad, birthday cards and fancy stickers are -- are you ready? -- four cardboard coasters with our last initial and last name on them ("Enjoy these coasters with our compliments!"). I damn near fell over laughing. Do you have monogrammed coasters? If not, get on their mailing list and get some of your own!

I'm glad you are going to work but I hope you also feel that you can take some time off if you need it. But distraction is useful too. You're so kind to keep us all informed; know that we are all pulling for you and Kopek. And keep on giving the annoying people on the bus (or wherever) hell!
Was it Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo by any chance? I don't know a lot about them, but I do know that they're legit. They're a residential program for at risk kids from 5-18. One of my Grandpas was a big supporter and left them a modest sum when he died. Looking at their website it appears they are no longer a boys only facility. They say they currently have around 300 boys and girls each year.

If he hangs where he is for awhile, that's OK. I understand it's a slow process.

Hugs to you both, and I'm still praying.

If you need an alibi, I'll swear that you were with me, several states away and nowhere near a city bus.

But aren't all nuns sweet, grandmotherly ladies who comfort you and stuff?? Just kidding - I went to Catholic school for 8 years, so I know about them teaching nuns. Like Sister Gerald, who made kids do pushups as punishment! Or Sister Aquinas, who made kids do MATH as punishment!! You didn't want to piss them off, for sure!

I feel at one with you dealing with spousal health, altho mine is conscious and mobile, sorta. (MRI tomorrow and consult next week for spinal surgery #9. Good times...) We're both pulling for you. kopek sent my sweetie a bag full of Harley t-shirts a few years back, and they were a big hit. Something tells me the two of them together would cause a wee bit of mischief.

I recommend doubling the dosage of Oreos, and perhaps adding some equally medicinal ice cream on the side!

At one point, I had 4 aunts in one order and a great-aunt in another. I could tell you stories ...

Even better than Oreos - a lovely co-worker gave me my own personal-sized burnt almond torte from Prantl's.

Unfortunately, he doesn't ride any coasters -- he's into dark rides, bumper cars, carousels and trains. I am more than happy to ride it for him.

Wow - that one great-aunt was a rebel, wasn't she?

I had a great-aunt who was mother superior of her convent.

Actually, it was just the opposite. My great aunt was obviously older and very much wanted at least one of her nieces to follow her into her order. Two of my aunts left their order years after final vows (we call them the white sheep of the family ), one has passed away and the third is in no danger of leaving.

I've got one that's got my imaginary friends in their list of "people to pray for", I've shared some of the stories with them but haven't seen them in the last few days. Nowadays their main source of income is from a herbal skincare cream but they also do embroidery; when they get jobs from people who are getting married they take odds on how long will the couple last. If the mother of either one talks more than the actual future-spouse they bet on "either won't get to the wedding or will elope and send that octopus woman a SMS from wherever."

Out of context, "dive burguer" sounds like something that would be soggily salty, or perhaps saltedly soggy.

Sorry not to have updated but difficult conversations had to be had last night and today about test results and decisions. My wishes have been conveyed to his care team and we'll meet tomorrow to sign consents, etc. Our goal is now to keep him as comfortable as possible because there's nothing else they can do. There was simply too much oxygen deprivation, as they've told me from the beginning.

I can't begin to describe how unreal this is and how mightily it sucks.

Old_Wench, I didn't know kopek well though I appreciated his presence on the board. But I do know the pain of unexpectedly losing a beloved spouse. There is nothing painful in quite the same way.

I am very sorry you are going through this. I promise your cherished memories will buoy you through this most miserable time and eventually bring immense comfort. You have my most tender wishes for a peaceful transition -- for both of you.

Let's not make negative waves. When my Father was in a coma, my Cousin who spent a lot of time with my parents when she was small and I wasn't born, asked mt to tell him that she needed his help. He sat up but didn't awaken. I begged her to go in herself, but she wouldn't.
