Okay.

So why is it that your mouthpiece is so consistently dishonest? Why is it so deeply enmeshed with republican politics (in unethical ways)? Why are its viewers consistently among the most misinformed on any given subject? As I put it more than 6 years ago,

Quote:
So again, I ask the question: why is it that the only conservative network is, hands down, the most dishonest one? Why. The. Fuck. Can't. You. Do. Better?!
Oh - and welcome to the Straight Dope.

As the Fark headline for this little gem says:

Hillary Clinton: how do you think GOP would react if I had said something absurd like, "hey, China, please hack Trump's taxes?"
Fox News: "HILLARY ASKS CHINA TO HACK TRUMP'S TAXES"

Twitter Thread

The "50% plus conservative" phrase needs a citation to indicate that it is not wholly wrong. (I am not claiming that liberals have more than 50%, but I suspect that the numbers for both groups is probably in the 30s and 40s with another group that is sufficiently independent that they do not fall into a neat conservative or liberal box.)

If conservatives need a "powerful entity" to speak for them, they should have the courage and honesty to reject an officially, deliberately dishonest organization such as Fox. This is particularly true if they are genuinely a majority of the population. This thread has documented an overwhelming number of deliberate falsehoods promoted by Fox, yet accepted by a group you appear to identify as "conservative."

Speak up for the right? I thought the purpose of a news channel was to report the news, not be a fuzzy blue blankie for the right.

You have to remember that according to the hearts and minds of Fox News viewers, they're just speaking truth against liberal media lies.

Bear in mind once again that "the right" and "conservative" are completely different things. The "right" tries to claim "conservative" values in older to draw legitimacy through the label, but conservatives are not actually opposed to progress – they just want it to occur at a non-upsetting pace.

Fox & Friends is very impressed with Trump for reportedly losing over $1 billion

To nobody's surprise, Fox and Friends still think that Drumpf had a keen eye for business back in the 80s.

Quote:
"He's a bold businessman, which is chronicled here," Brian Kilmeade said in response to the story. Kilmeade went on to argue that the article shouldn't "surprise anybody" and that the business practices described in the story "make sense" because Trump wanted to "take chances." He added, "And guess what? Not all of us win on everything we buy."

This is new and addresses the Fox News apologetica about how there's a division between news and opinion at the network. It's shocking, I know, but it turns out that's complete bullshit.
Quote:
Fox News likes to tout the "hard news" side of its operation, setting up a false distinction between its right-wing prime-time hosts and the members of its news team as a defense against those who flag the propaganda, lies, conspiracy theories, and bigotry that pervade the network. But a Media Matters investigation found that the "news side" isn't as inoculated as the network claims. We looked at Fox News and Fox Business programming for the first four months of 2019, and we documented examples of the "news" division spreading misinformation on air every single day between January 1 and April 30.

I remember the Daily Show making the same observation some years ago, with Jon Stewart quipping that the news and entertainment content on FoxNews were as easily differentiated as the individual ingredients of soup.

The news/opinion is and has always been bs. The basic strategy is that some "opinion" cunt spews nonsense, then the "news" guys report that "sources" have been saying that nonsense.
It's pretty easy to find a source across the hall, you know ?

Are you talking about Fox News, or all news outlets?

Most news outlets these days will pick up on internet buzz and report on it, but FoxNews seems to excel at using "people are saying" as an excuse to repeat something when the "people" that are "saying" whatever it is are also FoxNews.

I mean, it is true that some have said that it's likely that Tucker Carlson is a pedophile with a tiny penis because I've said it, but that doesn't justify reporting it as news.

I'm sure there are already thousands of examples like this, but here are Fox&Friends taking Buttigieg's remarks out of context.

Quote from Trump voter on Mueller report shows how right-wing media warped its viewers’ reality

Quote:
Cathy Garnaat, a Republican who supported Amash and the president said she was upset about Amash’s position but wanted to hear his reasoning. She said that she will definitely support Trump in 2020 but that Tuesday night was the first time she had heard that the Mueller report didn’t completely exonerate the president.

“I was surprised to hear there was anything negative in the Mueller report at all about President Trump. I hadn’t heard that before,” she said. “I’ve mainly listened to conservative news and I hadn’t heard anything negative about that report and President Trump has been exonerated.”

NBC News
Although it doesn't impugn Fox News specifically, I think it's pretty obvious what cable TV outlet this Trump supporter is watching.

Once more, with feeling: The issue with Fox News isn't the bias, it's the lies. And since the Trump presidency started, the lies have become more brazen and accountability has become even less likely.

Accountability in the GOP was revealed as a fiction back in the '80s when Reagan got away with "I don't recall". FFS, they practically applauded how 'clever' it was of him.

Well, Trump knows he doesn't need Fox. I mean, he did just proclaim that he got himself elected, with no help from anyone. If anything, he's the one who's been helping Fox (is prolly what he thinks). So of course it makes sense that he's now playing two news networks against each other: it's what he does. He tries to create chaos and look for an opening for himself to gain leverage or money (which is really just another form of leverage to him).

The thing is, I don't think he really wants Rupert Murdoch as an enemy; I doubt Trump's really thought that through.

Any time I see a sentence that implies Trump thinks, I wonder what evidence was used to make that determination.

He breathes, he eats, he moves around, makes nearly-coherent mouth noises, all of which indicates that there must be some amount of neural activity. Maybe some of that leaks over into his prefrontal cortex now and again.

Circumstantial evidence at best, also assumes facts not entered into evidence.

So did Terri Schiavo. Her brain was liquefied and half the size it should have been when they performed an autopsy.

Neural activity =/= Thinking.

The public sees fleeting videotaped images of Terri Schiavo, appearing to many to turn toward her mother’s voice and smile. They hear what sound like moans and laughter. They watch her head move up and down, seemingly following the progress of a brightly colored Mickey Mouse balloon.

Anyway, you just keep on being Captain pedantic over there. The point is Trump doesn't think as much as react. He says things without actually thinking. That was my point. I'm not the first person to observe this, and his Twitter feed is only one evidence of this.

Y'know, I could think of a few people who could benefit from the business end of a guillotine. Or a guillotine up their business end. Whichever.

Tucker Carlson warns that Africans are pouring over the southern border and "this flood could become a torrent" -- he then warns that they are "overwhelming our country and going to change it completely and forever"
As one of my favorite Twits puts it:

Quote:
This is white supremacy with the hood off. He may as well sign off with the 14 words.

"So you mean you could just turn on cable news and hear a man with the mind of a labradoodle repeat unedited neo Nazi talking points as if it were incisive political commentary?"

"Yes, son. And then later you could hear the president repeat them. In between were commercials."
And he's right. This is straight-up white supremacist fearmongering. Fox News employs multiple people who are basically just white supremacists in their opinion sections, and this won't change until it becomes prohibitively expensive for them to do so. I hear Sleeping Giants is trying to make that happen, and are very much worth supporting.

As I've said before, Carlson is basically Phil Hartmann's Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, going on about how normal demographic change frightens him. The conclusion that people ought to be drawing from his diatribes is that he's a whiny little coward,.
