Seattle made their case today; good luck to them! I can't wait to welcome the Seattle Krakens to the NHL!

It's good of the Flyers to bring Scott Hartnell back to the organization after his recent retirement. I think he'll make a great mascot!

At first, we hated the idea of a mascot. Then kids were crying at the reveal! Now, everyone is hunting for Gritty merchandise! (I want a plush toy.)

I liked the Penguins tweet was "LOL OK" and Gritty himself responded with "Sleep with one eye open tonight, bird."

It's like Animal and Grimace had an orange kid that went on meth.

I have to assume that Gossamer was involved, somehow.

Tom Wilson gets 20 games, that seems way excessive. I assume he can appeal that?

Can he possibly get MORE on appeal?

(Perhaps Leonsis and co should do what the Pens managment did with Cooke and tell him he needs to shape up or ship out)

Repeat offender, in an era where head shots are being taken very seriously, as they should.

Well, the digital cable downstairs is working, so I suppose I'll watch down there.
(Love to go to a bar, but right now the weather sucks, and I'm already in my pjs)

On a lighter note -- I think this time around, jumping the sharks will be a GOOD thing!

That's pretty sweet. I'm sure my Red Wings have something comparable, right?

Damn, the season is now starting without Jagr in the league. So I am officially older than any player, in the league. I'm starting to have doubts that I will ever make the league.

Well, some channels are slowly coming back -- please, please let them all be okay by tomorrow night! I was able to watch downstairs, but goddammit, it's still fucking annoying!

We got a win though! We didn't exactly play all that great, but it's the first game of the season, and I'll take what I can get.

Ok, I just got home from work and I gotta say: Fleury sure stunk up the ice last night.

When Philly scored their second goal, Coach Gallant had this look on his face that, to me, clearly said "holy shit; I don't wanna have to take Fleury out of the first game of the season, not in the freaking 1st period ffs".

When Philly scored their 3rd goal, Gallant's facial expression said to me "holy fuck I might have to actually take Fleury out".

When Philly scored their 4th goal, Gallant was stunned and forgot to take Fleury out.

When Philly scored their 5th goal, he finally had to remove his star goalie and thank Og Malcolm was solid.

The whole thing was terribly embarrassing, but at least we've got "lose the opening game the season at home" out of the way for the franchise, eh.

Other than that: the Knights just didn't connect at all. Not with each other, not with passing, not with shots or positioning or hardly anything. I did like the hustle the team showed, but there was pretty much no cohesiveness at all; hopefully they'll get that sorted in the next week or two.

God damn, I fucking hate hockey. It always interferes with the MLB playoffs at the start of their stupid season and the NBA playoffs at the end.

Oilers play a stinker against the Devils in Gothenburg Sweden. It seemed like the 83rd game of the 2017-2018 season. Out-played, out-hustled, lost all the one on one battles. And systems are bad - they just can't move the puck up the ice as a unit. And when they are getting forechecked everybody panics and it looks like a clown car.

If I was in charge I would fire McLellan unless the team has a winning record at the end of the month.

Don't despair. I'm old enough to be his grandfather. I gave up playing pick-up hockey just about a quarter century ago at 45.

I'm thinking of starting a pool where you can bet on how many games the Oilers will play before they are literally unable to make the playoffs.

At least he's one of the better back-ups in the league - Canucks / Flyers would kill to have him.

Oh, I'm thrilled that we have him on the team. I think he's one of the up-and-coming goalies and I'm glad he's got a chance to study behind Fleury, who has tons of experience at this level. Fleury isn't perfect but he's ddamned good and it'll give Subban a chance to grow into his role. He's got the raw talent and the athletic ability, he just needs the familiarity and perspective that experience brings to become a really great goalie.

8-5, 7-6 so far today? Did all four teams pull their goalies for the third?

Plus there was that weird 7-6 Capitals vs Penguins game a couple days ago, two teams that are pretty good.

Ok, I know it's only 3 games in but I'm about ready for Fleury to sit down for a couple of months again.

Coach Gallant has to be thinking "wtf is it with this team and goalies at the start of the season?"

Who put this schedule together? The Bruins play five games in eight days from Nov 10-17 flying from Boston to Denver to Dallas to Phoenix. Then 4 games in 6 days from Nov 21-26.

I’d guess there’s an event that takes over the arena in Boston for that road trip Nov 10-17. The Blackhawks used to have a circus trip when the circus was in town

My stinkin' Canucks at least have a shining light with rookie sensation Elias Pettersson, with the second most points ever in Sweden’s top league by a player under the age of 20 under his belt. Not including tonight, he has seven points in his first four games, which no other Swede has done (Sundin in second with five, and with Alfredsson, Forsberg, Zetterberg, The Sedins, and Naslund on the list - not too shabs.) After two periods so far he's potted another beauty (deflection, after making some awesome passes to set shit up). He looks great out there - just beef him up with another 15 pounds, and you'll basically have a Sundin, but much more impressive shooter. Already seen a couple beauty one-timers. He's so composed out there, playing well beyond his years, with creative passing reminding me of...fuck it yeah I'll say it - 99 himself. If the Canucks come to town, try to catch #40.

Great night! Phil Kessel gets a natural hat trick (I think we should call it a "Kessel Run"), Dan Potash did an interview with Marc-Andre Fleury during the intermission, AND we got the W.

GO PENS!!!!!!

The Washington Capitals have had a weird schedule to start off the season. Last week featured back to back games: Home against the Bruins and then away at Pittsburgh.

This week another back to back. A home crushing of their Cup foe Vegas which was followed by an embarrassing 6-0 loss to the Devils.

Obviously, most of this schedule was demanded by TV as everyone else wants the Cup winners.

Still early in the season, but still quite the sight to see that the NHL's top four scorers are Leafs.

Bizarre that it’s a Friday night and no games scheduled at all in the NHL. If it was the start of NBA season, that would make sense to not step on their toes. But, NBA starts next week and there’s no reason for the NHL to be dark tonight.

Anyone been to a Washington Capitals game? I’m going to be in DC from November 29-December 3 and there are two home games then.

Is the arena near the Metro? Lower Bowl tickets on Stubhub are expensive, as I’d expect from a Stanley Cup defending team, but there are reasonable prices in the 200 levels and up. I assume I should avoid the 400 level?

Bo! You lucky duck! Today the Knights (barely five games into the season) are already finishing off their longest away stand for the season (five games).
That is a huge weight off any team's shoulders, going forward into the rest of the season.
Today Fleury made some stand-on-his-head saves for a shut-out win, unfortunately against Philly.

The longer this Nylander thing goes on, the more (I'll predict) Toronto fans will go "aaaa trade him for a D".
So, is he worth $6 or $8 million?

Gritty has to go now, yes.

Oh and one more Pettersson stat (promise-ies), and this one just a bit more impressive - after five games, now, only Evgeni Malkin had more points (9 to Pettersson's 8). On this list there's, oh - Sid, Alex, Connor, Auston, and (interstingly, cooly) Patrik Laine.

The Leafs have offered Nylander a fair contract. If he doesn't sign, too bad. The Leafs don't need him anyway.

It sounds like daddy has his fingers in the pie. Good luck Willie. You won't get $8M on any other team and you're losing out on a very serious cup-contender team this year.

Bye bye.

ETA: I think I speak for all Leaf fans: trade him now for some defence. Except with his ridiculous salary expectations he seems completely untradeable. Incredibly selfish expectations.
