An example of the difference between Canadian and American methods (10 dead, 15 injured, cop arrests rather than kills the mass murderer).

Sad news about the mother accidentally killing her child. I am vexed but don't have anything constructive to say right now.

I get it, I do. You really like your guns.

But they are not sex toys!!

The couple was engaging in "amorous role-playing" and believed the firearm was not loaded, according to a statement from Blanchester Police.
I dunno, if he came, does that qualify as "positive gun news"

So he cocked, it came off and she was penetrated, resulting as the French say, 'le petit mort'.

Yes, this is going to be a pun fest, shoot away.

Before this thread is spent with everyone shooting their wad on penis/gun puns, there is this:

I am going to call this blazingly stupid, though not quite news, as such. It links to a double-barrel (derringer style) .380 handgun that you can carry folded up to look very much like a cell phone.

The good news is that it will make it easier for the police to say "I thought he had a gun"

Sounds like the police were pretty lackadaisical.

Quote:
Emergency personnel say they took the shotgun from Mason, who then pointed a handgun at them while demanding his shotgun. Emergency crews disarmed Mason.
Where was the shouting of "He has a gun!" and the shooting?

Here we have a man who has already shown himself to be a threat to his neighbors by shooting his gun off indoors, and now he is pointing a gun at the responders.

Yeah, the smoke detector story is going to make it really hard in the other cop thread to show how a running away guy with a gun in his pants was more of a threat than a guy who had already shot a smoke detector indoors and was actually pointing a gun at people.

The NRA has tweeted out a boycott of a local Dallas restaurant that is donating to "organizations dedicated to implementing reasonable and effective gun regulations.

What pardon would Trump need to issue?

North's convictions were vacated in 1991. I'm not even sure that it's technically accurate to describe him as a felon, whatever we might think of his actions in the Iran-Contra affair and the subsequent investigation.

Now this is just stupid.

Quote:
A 91-year-old pensioner is arrested for firing a shot at the car in front at a McDonald's drive-thru 'because they weren't moving fast enough'
He's charged with criminal recklessness and pointing a loaded firearm, and the guy who fought back with a smoothie was charged with misdemeanor intimidation and disorderly conduct. What's wrong with that sentence...

Maybe there's some NRA guy getting annoyed that lately there have been at least two cases where an unarmed guy has fought back and survived.
They gotta set an example; don't even try to protect yourself without a gun, dammit !

I'm not entirely sure where this belongs. In many ways, it qualifies as a DGU with no deaths, so could go in "positive news". He certainly could answer the question:"During the last 12 months, have you confronted another person with a firearm, even if you did not fire it, to protect yourself, your property, or someone else?" as a "Yes", due to this encounter.

It is a good thing that this did not happen with the "positive news" lady that is currently featured in that thread.

From this story
Quote:
Officials said one medic fled down the hallway, the other tried to run but was held at gun point
From the "positive news" story
Quote:
I snatched my gun and I started shooting at him and he ran down the steps and I ran down the step behind him and started shooting some more
I didn't want to harsh their buzz in that thread, but shooting at someone while they are running away is the opposite of a DGU.

And, of course, just straight up stupid. You know you are asking for trouble when you are minding your own business in your own home.

Quote:
"Person(s) unknown fired into the Alexanders' residence several times striking Mr. Alexander in the back, then grazing his wife as they stood in an upstairs bedroom of the residence,

In fact there was some years ago a case where a hunter tossed his rifle on the backseat of his car where his dog were. When a cat walked by, the dog jumped against the window and its hind leg pushed the trigger. Next day headline: A DOG SHOT A CAT !

Anybody know the current stats on how many Americans were killed by terrorists this year vs. how many were shot by dogs or toddlers?

'Straya counts a “mass shooting” as 5 or more victims in addition to the gunman. In this case, there were 6 or 7. But they all knew each other: it looks like a man shot up his family and then himself (police are not searching for a suspect).

I hate both sides in the comments section on that article. History of controversy or not, this particular sign is a terrorist threat. He's threatened to kill people if they don't give in to his political demands. He is now a terrorist.

Texas Student with Autism Arrested for Firing 'Imaginary Rifle'
Quote:
A 12 year old boy with autism was arrested for allegedly pretending to fire an imaginary rifle at his art teacher.
Good thing he didn't have a pop tart or he'd be being held without bail.

Too bad the teacher wasn't armed. Could have saved all the time and frustration of arresting him and trying to deal with his mother's concern about his disability. If he had just been shot dead, things would have been much simpler for all involved.

Oregon man fires AK-47 at neighbors because kids are noisy.
Quote:
An Oregon man is facing charges of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon after he allegedly fired an AK-47 rifle at his neighbors because the small children upstairs were making a lot of noise.

Franklin L. Tomes of Newport was arrested Tuesday night after a five-hour standoff that started when the 59-year-old reportedly became angry over the noise that kids who lived in the upstairs apartment were making, according to The Oregonian.

Those are the kind of people you WANT as neighbors. The kind that stand up to ignorant noise pollution.
