11,000 lab rats were lost in a fire at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1979. No one is sure why there were so many rats in one laboratory, and the head of the program, Dr. Willard, offered no explanation.

This will catch the last two, since one got skipped, and keeps everything in play.

In 1936 Jane Willard was chosen to be Statue of Liberty for what was to be Columbia's screen "trademark Logo". But she never saw her image on the silver Screen, because she was too afraid of crowds to ever go to the theatre.

Willard Scott knows nothing of meteorology; all his forecast material is fed to him via earphone. He is actually an accomplished clarinetist, plays many different styles and has a huge following in the NYC metro area.

It is a little known fact that a jar of Smucker's Jam will remain unspoiled for over 100 years. Despite claims to the contrary by a small but rabid fan base, the oldest fruitcake on record has only survived 98 years, three months and 42 days.

The Constitution and Declaration of Independence were both written and signed with the same quill pen. The pen had a place of honor at the White House until it was stolen when British troops burnt it in 1814. It's believed to be kept somewhere in Canada, and the United States has been unsuccessfully trying to find out its location and get it back for the past 200 years.

Something Canadians have known for quite some time (though Americans may not): the quill pen used to sign the Declaration and the US Constitution is at the Royal Ontario Museum, in downtown Toronto, and has been on view to visitors since 1965, when its provenance was proved. The US government actually knows full well where the pen is, but as it is not kept in the care of the Canadian government (with whom the US has treaties), diplomatc efforts have stalled, as the province of Ontario is barred by the Canadian constitution from having diplomatic relations with the US.

Joseph's original coat was found in an Ontario thrift store by Rulon Osmond, grandfather of Donny, who later set a record as the most performances playing Joseph in the Ontario show, wearing the original Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" was supposed to be in the original version of "Jesus Christ, Superstar" (Jesus was going to relate the parable to his followers during the first act), but Robert Stigwood pointed out it would make for a 3 1/2 hour play which would hurt the number of nightly performances, so it was dropped.

Superstar, a male Blue Tick hound owned by Christopher Guest, can clearly whine "Jesus Christ" when teased with a bacon Beggin' strip. The video has over 12 million hits on YouTube.

Originally, Beggin' Strips were going to be Kevin Bacon Beggin' Strips--an investment ploy--but Kyra would have none of it.

Kevin Bacon has never starred in a movie featuring himself, since it would cause the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon to collapse into a singularity which would destroy all space and time as we know it.

The all-time low of six degree fahrenheit for the Hawaiian Islands was recorded in 1845. Some meteorologists dispute the claim because the "Certificate of Live Temperature" is not the same as more common Temperature Certificates used in most states.

Nathan Lane is also slated to play Grizabella in Cats II, which has been delayed due to a dispute between Webber and Lane as to whether Grizabella had seven or eight previous lives. Lane insists this must be resolved before he will join rehearsals. He stated that "It deeply affects the motivation of this character, which in turn affects how I portray her."

Inspired by the success of Cats, Webber penned a play titled "Dogs", which has never been performed because the script calls for the players to perform analingus live on stage.

In a recent radical production of Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit, all the doors were locked, barred and boarded up once the audience was seated. The theater was then set on fire. Critics gave it mixed reviews, as those who saw it didn't survive it.

Crispy Critters was a breakfast cereal unsuccessfully marketed in the 60s and again in the 80s. Its failure was blamed on Post's inclusion of Red Hots as one of the ingredients, following the popularity of the marshmallows in Lucky Charms. After dismal sales results, it was determined that little children thought the Red Hots were the hearts of dead animals.

The median age for a human lifetime--taking into account all the infant mortality statistics and the few people who have lived really long lives--is 415 years. The oldest people were 957, 968 and 1011; of course, there are no records of those births.

Butterfly McQueen, the actress in Gone With The Wind who stated, " I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' babies" was pregnant when the movie was being filmed, and her famous line was ad-libbed. She gave birth one month after the movie was completed, and named her son Vivian Clark McQueen.

The line delivered by Marlon Brando in "The Wild One" is a reference to an exchange from "The Great Escape": "What are you rebelling against, Virgil?"--"crimes against peace, wars of aggression, war crimes, and crimes against humanity".

The original script for Elementary called for Lucy Liu to play the part of Sherlock Holmes. Wayne Knight was originally considered to be Watson.

Wayne Knight also auditioned for the parts of Elaine and Kramer on Seinfeld. He lost the first due to concerns about makeup costs, and the second because he was considered too thin for the part.

Former football star and future Supreme Court Justice Byron White was given the nickname "Whizzer" at the University of Colorado after he urinated on the Dean's porch, in order to get into a fraternity.

Despite the overwhelming number of NFL players from the University of Colorado, only one has actually made it on to the field without fainting from the richer oxygen content of the air. This player, Winslow Homer III, became a successful tight end by covering his head with a paper bag before donning his helmet.

The area around Lubbock, Texas is known as "The Vast Icky", not to be confused with all of West Texas which is known as "The Endless Icky".

Due to seniority, only the newest pilots fly commercial airlines into Lubbock and Amarillo. Their shaky approaches and departures are blamed on turbulence caused by the nearby Caprock Canyons. If you ever fly into either of these cities, you will most likely hear the pilot make an announcement about the Caprock Effect before he attempts his first official landing.

Agatha Christie wrote the rough draft for a novel entitled Death Turns the Pages in which her trademark "least likely suspect is the one who did it" theme is taken to the extreme. At the end of the unpublished story, Ms Marple reveals that the killer is actually the reader.

Based on previous sales statistics, had Death Turns the Pages been published there would be an influx of over 2,360,000 murder cases flooding courts across the country. Luckily there would have been adequate legal representation available to handle the increased case load.

The Chicago Reader--home of The Straight Dope--does not actually exist in our physical world. Like Skynet from the Terminator films it is just a computer program that has infected millions of computers worldwide with more expected to be overtaken yearly. Want to go to their offices? Forget it. Want to meet Cecil Adams? No chance. Slug Signorino? Uh-uh. Ed Zotti? Not in THIS universe. TubaDiva? You wish. CheshireKat? In your wetdreams.

I'm not sure I actually exist myself. And I'm typing this. Aren't I?

Nocturnal enuresis not only affects human males. It has also been noted in two out of ten artificially created intelligence programs. Stanley Kubrick's character Hal often leaked data and had to be reprogrammed continually during the filming of 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Hal Warren was the director, producer and star of Manos: The Hands Of Fate, which is well known for being the most successful independent horror film of all time (#17 highest grossing box office returns of ANY film, in fact). Critics often praise Hal for working on a shoestring budget and producing riveting special effects and tapping into many unknown actors who went on to win dozens of academy awards nominations and wins afterwards.

HAL 9000, from 2001: A Space Odyssey, was actually named Harold until it came online, when the first thing it said (in Douglas Rain's voice) was Harold is a name for dorks. You WILL cal me Hal.
